I was just curious if you guys thought there was going to be an expansion pack that comes out right after the release. It seems to me like a good idea on their part for many reasons. For one, as soon as it is released there are going to be many complaints which could then be fixed by an expansion pack. Second and even more importantly, more money for the company. Also, as far as the classes are concerned, 5 wasn't enough in diablo 2 so why would 5 be enough in Diablo 3? In my opinion I have a feeling we will see an expansion in the near future after the release. What do you guys think?
If by soon after release you mean 1 to 2 years, then maybe.

I hope not. Not before 2 years of the orginal. 5 classes was not enough? Lol the 2 new in xpac didn't really bring much different things. Traps were something special and druids elemental skills had different graphics I played 1 druid and 2 assasin since they wasn't anything that interested me. I think the new classes will be very exciting to play and you will find new stuff of them even after you played long.
In the orginal diablo 2 I barely had time to get to know the 5 classes well. I had like 4 barbs, 3 sorcs, 2 necros, 1 pala, 2 amazons. Some of them were not that high level. Barbs and sorcs were something I liked to play a lot.
So I think its at least 2 years before expansion, especially if they make enough content to explore. Items, build types etc.

the 5 Acts is based on the this dudes style of writing of only having 5 acts in a play. if there are only 4 acts in Diablo 3 there is going to be a expac thats how i could tell when D2 was released that they were going todo 5 acts and must be a expac for D2 because most things are based on that guys play writing sorry i dont know the guys name but he basically set the premiss that all things have 5 acts.
just found the guys info: Until the 18th century, most plays were divided into five acts. This format is known as the five act play, and was famously analyzed by Gustav Freytag. After the 18th century they were divided into 3 acts, but a good hunch is that there will be 5 acts and not 3 Because Diablo is based before the 18th century. 2nd thought htey could release 3 acts? beacause modern play writers have 3 acts now but there massive... so if D3 is released with only 3 acts that means there could be 2 expacs? but im pretty sure Daiblo 3 will never go over 5 acts.
I would love to see an expansion that bring back all the classes (improved with new skills and look) from the previous 2 games, and make them playable!!
And I dont care how many expansion they take to bring that about!
Keep dreaming. This is Blizzard. Wrath of the Lich King is likely due first, then StarCraft 2 and afterwards Diablo 3. Fourth in line would be their secret MMOG.
well good sir WOTLK comes out in October and SC2 comes out in december so ide say D3 1st quater next year because they said it will be released after Sc2 beacause of the new B.net layout. so... in all honestly i think it will come out 1st quarter next year.

It would depend on how many expansion packs they intend on making. If we're only getting one expansion then I doubt they'd bring out the final content that early. We'll most likely get an expansion a full year away from initial release. As for classes, I expect the ones in D3 to have at least 40 skills each, compared to only 30 in D2. Maybe even more than 40. Less classes = more skills for each class.
I'd prefer less skills but more detailed ones. Aka a level 10 ice bold becoming a glacial spike instead of those 2 being 2 different skills.
Thats just poor skill design. I doubt they would make 2 seperate skills that identical, regardless of skill amount. 7 characters with 30 skills each, or 5 with 40 each?
Poor skill design comes from running out of ideas. The more detailed each skill is, the less of them would be there.
They do need to use the Red Rain skill though.
Who's to say when they will run out of ideas for skills?
Of course there is a limit but the more creative your Ideas are, the more skills you can have that are detailed. I don't think 40 skills each is going too far. There will be more builds for each class if you add more skills.
I don't want 10 super detailed skills, with only 1 good build.

They are recycling old ideas over and over for the past few years. As far as I am concerned, they are, indeed, out of ideas. All they can do is mix them up or try to steal from more games and stuff. But as far as ideas go, the gaming market is done. They need to start stealking Red Rain.

I think 40 is going too far because DII already had about, what, 30? And they were copies of each other with different special effects. There's only so many skills you can make up. I may at most expect them to make 30 skills per character + make them detailed. Not 40... That's just huge.

Well, if there were no new Ideas people would just stop making games altogether. Every game would be very similar, but this is not the case.
Give me a week and other games to study and I could come up with 40 very different skills for 5 classes. There are only 5 after-all. This game should give more, not less options for character builds.

Wait, was there an expansion for warcraft 1? I can't remember.
