I've been against season only items from the start for everything. But if they're going to add season only items, it seems a bit arbitrary to confine them to items and not gems too.
They have to have their carrot on a stick, as it were.

100% agree just if I had to pick one or the other it would be the gems. Since they are actually useful as far as I can tell atm.
When Seasons were first announced, there were numerous lengthy threads about Seasonal-only items. You're not the only one. Some people dislike the idea (e.g. Emmo, as you see from the first reply to this thread). Other people think that it is neat to give a little extra incentive to start fresh with a Seasonal character.
So, basically the same as every design decision. Some like it, some don't.
Season gets some items 3-6 months sooner than non-season. On the other hand there are plenty of items added which are non-seasonal.
I think part of the rationale is to give incentive for players who otherwise are uninterested in seasonal play to get on and bolster the playerbase there. I personally don;t care because it takes like 3 days to cap level on a new character and a a couple weeks to be T6 functional.
I can live without those gems, but I do think its ignorant to make them season only. Its clear that they are doing whatever they can to fall in line with "their way" of playing this game. Again I hate grifts and only use them to level gems but they love em and seem to always try to force us to do them. Now it seems they are doing the same with seasons.
Still wont get me to join seasons or play more grifts.
This argument makes no sense. You're not "behind" season players (as if this was some sort of nerd MMO race to begin with). This is like complaining that a movie you want to see comes out in fall instead of summer. So what? Wait and play it when it shifts. You're still only going to get a week's worth of playtime in before you get bored of the game again.
On top of that, season and nonseason players are typically exclusive. It's not like people who play seasons are doing it for the temporarily exclusive items for their nonseason characters. It's because they know that Diablo as a game has no longevity to it and the only way to keep it interesting is to continually restart fresh.
Blizzard also does D3 exclusive perks for different platforms. Nemesis and AH is available on some platforms. I understand what they may be doing from a sales standpoint, but I dont agree with that either.
Not my kinda cup of tea honestly, legendary items sure...but the gems should be all around.
Thoughts?
PS. Before people say I am crying, I love the new patch and changes just thought this one thing wasn't very great.
