I've read soo many threads/posts about people who are just constantly dumping on the Monk, saying (s)he's basically just a filler class and a weak, lame version of the pally (for now im just really focusing on the assassin aspect)
Granted, that's their opinion, but mine is that -so far- the Monk is the most underrated class in D3
Only 8 skills have been released and it's all well and good to have to have skills which could help party members, but i really don't think that's the initial purpose
And concerning the Monks 'weakness', hes built to be fragile !
An aspect of the game to be a challenge to players whom like playing a melee-based char but want an alternative to the oh-so-dominant barb
The monk is built to be a class which is difficult to start off with due to as i've said before (s)he's known to be fragile, but as you progress through the game with combo skills, buffs and debuffs will help create a VERY powerful char
With combos such as 100 fists and exploding palm, aswell as the yet to be released skills, i believe a highly skilled Monk player will defintely be not one to be taken for granted, and for the people who do just perceive the Monk as a weak-ass char who should go back to the monastery as he has no business fighting off the prime evils, will end up getting their asses handed to them so fast they won't even be able to say "lololol it's a weak-ass Monk"
I'm just sayeen.
I do not not think the monk is going to be bad character. I think the monk will be fragile and will need to be mobile to do damage as well as to not take hits.

Though i've nothing against the monk i will not choose him as my first character.
Generaly in many games, including D2, the melee characters are too gear dependent. In D2 the difference of sorc and a zeal pally or a barb using a mid gear (exceptional/elite uniques and sets) are so freaking huge that it's not even funny.
Ofc this is not necesserely true, it's that for some reason melee character are harder to balance then ranged ones. Imo it's unbearable the fact that a ranged character will unleash more DPs then a melee one.

who will be ?
obviously its kinda difficult considering the game is expect to come out hopefully 2011 but im guessing youre atleast pondering out your first roll
and yeaah i guess thats true
though i guess as im much more of a melee char than a ranged one so i just kinda deal with it
I agree with your first post Lorenzo. The monk is definitely more than a supportive character. However, with the inclusion of possible aura-like abilities the monk might be the most supportive of the known classes. Some people might choose to specifically make a team monk.
They have said that the monk will be a more difficult class to play but the trade off is that he is more potential to be stronger if you play him correctly.

Stronger then the other classes ?
I don't think a class are made to be better then other no matter how hard it is to master. In the end, in the hands of a elite player, all classes should be equal in power.
In theory it is nice but it is almost impossible to have all characters balanced due to the fact the skills are going to be different. You tweak one skill and a different skill becomes the new dominant skill.

you know on thoughts about the monk what if they actually give him a disarm skill i know im leaning towards wow butin pvp terms and pve it could give him an interesting skill could even let him go toe to toe with an over geared barb oops you dropped your weapon !! die !!

rightright..so how would a disarm skill work against fallen or like diablo himself ?
really confused on why the monk is seen to anyone as a supportive class? from what i have seen he seems like a pure offensive class. He rushes large groups of mobs in less than 3 seconds 50% of everything seems to be dead. I'm not sure what all the abilities are that the monk has or will have upon release but he seems to me as the 'rogue' of the classes. No daggers or swords but very fast and agile i highly doubt this will be a purely supportive class
Because he has holy magic, which reminds them of the Paladin. Also because Blizzard said they're looking into giving one of the classes auras or similar abilities, and if they do it will most likely go to the Monk.
But yes, the Monk reminds me alot more of the Assassin in terms of gameplay.
i get that, but all these classes have abilities that could be considered 'support' abilities. If he does get an aura it will probably be because he lacks in helping when it comes to group play and needs a buff. no point in bringing a monk if he doesn't do anything to help everyone else when you could bring a wizard who has a slow time ability or witch doctor fear etc etc... hes definitely meant to be an offensive destructive class

Not necessarily, we can't know already because we only know few skills...
WD fear I think it's not a supportive spell, it's annoying for a barb when he try to kill monster who run away...

Good constructive argument......
Every class can dominate a pub duel game.......If you know what you are doing.
I am no more....
