Hi, this will be my first attempt at a hardcore DH... will be playing her with a shield / decent 1 hander.. like a mace/sword/wand etc.
Basically spam caltrops/spike traps every where to gain hatred then fan of knives/vault around everywhere, and use chakram to focus down big hp thing; with my sentry negating damage/being busy in the middle. What you think ?
You've inspired me to have a go at a melee DH build. I don't necessarily think it will be the best build for HC, so I'm not concentrating on survivability as much as your build does.
With Impale being reworked to a thrown knife instead of a bow shot, I'm assuming at least some of its rune effects will change. If not, I think Golden Impale will be way better than Grenades.
Basically you can spam Grenades (or Impale) and Spike Trap in between auto-attack while hitting Fan of Knives when it's off CD and keeping your Shuriken Cloud up.
Caltrops provides a nice damage boost (Cull the Weak) and crit increase (Bait the Trap) while also providing damage reduction (Numbing Traps), so it should be kept active all the time as well.
I think any of the Discipline skills could slide nicely into the 6th skill slot. I like Golden Preparation for the "oh shit!" button, but it does have a long CD. Mobility in Vault or Smoke Screen, extra damage and healing or damage reduction from Sentry, Marked for Death (Obsidian runed), Companion, Shadow Power...all are good options that this build would make great use of.

Maybe someone in beta could confirm?) Maelstrom would definitely be awesome if it works, but I don't see that happening.
B.) You have Cull the Weak, but your only slow comes from Fan of Knives, which only has a 40% uptime max (assuming you spam it on every CD).
C.) Shadow Power is great, but with a 20 Disc. cost and only an 8 sec. buff, I doubt you'll be able to keep it up constantly. Maybe replacing Cull the Weak with Perfectionist would help here, but I still think it won't be able to be kept up constantly.
D.) While Sticky Trap is good for damage, it looks like it will probably reduce the rate at which you can gain Hatred from the skill, since you can only have 3 out at once and you have to wait for the enemy to die to plant another. With Spike Trap being your only Hatred generator, I think that would most likely become a problem.
E.) I could be totally wrong here, but I think it will be folly for a HC melee DH to rely on a stun with a lengthy CD for escape/survivability. I think you're going to have to work either Vault or Smoke Screen into your build for when you get in over your head.

Cluster Arrow isn't in the beta, so I can't tell you 100% if you need a ranged weapon to use it, but since it's called Cluster Arrow I could take a good guess that you would need a ranged weapon. In the beta, you currently need a ranged weapon to use Impale even, which isn't even a shot at the moment. Since Cluster Arrow says, "Fire a Cluster grenade..." I think it's safe to assume you can't use it unless you have a ranged weapon equipped.

A.) Hmm yea that would be a problem, I wouldnt want to have to do weapon swaps just to cast it.. even thou it might be
viable this is pure melee build.
B.) True.. Cull of the Weak doesnt seem like a worthy talent to have here
C.) Well when I ment to have it "constantly up" its during those times where its needed ... eg. tanking mini bosses/bosses/extra archers etc. .. or beginning to collect hatred before any of my "buffs" are on.
D.) Yea.. my hatred use was quite low.. except for cluster arrow , that one would be difficult to keep hatred up for
E.) Yea I agree, felt like I had no room for that.
If Cluster Arrow cannot be used with golden orb/melee weapon thats def. a problem in this build.

What is largely noticeable in this build is.. No hatred generation skills !!! Thats right.. the talent which makes
basic attack gain dmg/4 hatred is THE ONLY hatred regeneration skill.
My only 2 spells which need hatred is a 40second timer shield/10hatred, and 10sec cooldown FoK/20 hatred .. very low
requirements
My discipline consumption is low in general.. 20sec cooldown sentry/10, smoke screen/15
except for Shadow Power which will require properly timed activations. Preparation can be used to
fully heal my discipline and further supplement Shadow Power usage.
Basically u run around right clicking things, with chakram/sentry always up, use FoK every single cooldown to stun/debuff/dmg enemies, smoke screen for supplemental damage during easier stages or escape with 60%ms+ , and shadow power + preparation combo for big boss/groups takedowns.
for alot higher dmg with those rockets with a 100% boost, making your sentry do WAY more damage. and entangling shot to keep enemies slowed so you can pick them off easier. and strafe so you can kite around with ease as your traps destroy them. :D. could sub in the 20% extra dmg to slowed enemies for an even bigger dmg boost. (jesus fan of knives dmg is insane!)
