I have always liked the thought of being the mercenary to be there to help others out and, why I'm there, slaughter any unsuspecting PKers. My price... free, although the occasional Emerald gem or Tal rune would be highly appreciated, along with charms or jewels that give to poison damage. I will need some time to get a powerful HC character and will not accept a rush so I can better learn how to survive the unforgiving environment that is Hardcore. This thread will be used to post updates on my progression, and to allow anybody who so wishes to drop a tip here and there on surviving.

Exactly my point. I started a character with a build that will get her to a nice high level before I start hiring myself out as a mercenary. More details later; maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow.

Here are the details on my first potential HC merc. It is a modified fire trap assassin, that will utilize the rogue merc and her claws to tear through anything with fire resists and immunity. I am balancing the stats so as to have sufficient mana needed to continually use traps as I am not very good at mana potion chugging. I will be using the fire trapsin to get to a nice high level and maybe reset stats/skills to become a martial artist for player defense against monster and PKer alike. She is currently at level 10 and has the first three quests done for act 1 normal. She has a rogue that will be specialized in cold damage. That's it for now, I can and will answer any questions.
Also, please reread the rules if you believe I am breaking the double post rule.

The reason why the rogue merc is because she is the best merc for an assassin especially after I redo stats and become a martial artist. She would rain arrows down on my enemies and my shadow and I slaughter them. Look on page 106 and 107 of the Ultimate Strategy Guide. It's the same section of the Assassin skills, but at the end.

My assassin is now in Act 2 and level 16, a first for me on Hardcore. One tactic that I found useful with the Wake of Fire trap is the smoke and clear strategy that law enforcement and military personnel use to clear rooms. I would get the trap ready, open the door, drop 2-3 traps and quickly shut the door. A few seconds later I waltz right in and pick up whatever I want/need and move on. I have figured out my base stats which would be as follows.
Strength: 120 (118 is minimum for highest claws)
Dexterity: 120 (118 is minimum for highest claws)
Vitality: The rest (It is Hardcore)
Energy: 50 (I play the way I want and I need these)
My skills would be as follows.
Fire Blast: 20
Wake of Fire: 20
Wake of Inferno: 20
Shadow Master: 20
Claw Mastery: 9
Weapon Block: 9
Fade: 8
Psychic Hammer: 1
Cloak of Shadows: 1
Shadow Warrior: 1
Burst of Speed: 1

you can get all the best equipment there is within a week of time
Best equipment within a week of time? @#$@#$ you too dude :P, I was a magic find Sorc for I dont know how long, I never found jack @#$@# XD a few crappy rings, a staff and a sword, at most, none of which were the ""best"" gear.
and what does getting gear easy have to do with anything?
hese talking about being a merc, to go redeem some poor fool who got killed by a pk.
the problem is if that person cant redeem himself with a higher level character, he probably wont have anything good to trade with anyway.
Heres a better idea, say if they dont give you an item YOU will pk them,, same difference right?

you will do around 600 dmg per trap. not alot considering how ridiculous bnet made hell monster resists in 1.10
your sm will help a lot but mines lvl 24+ and takes around an hour to kill 1 chaos monster that isnt a ghost thing.
best invest in some claw skills

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Actually, Wake of Fire will be doing 1417.5 average damage per trap (the full five waves). Wake of Inferno, used for bosses, does 3670 average damage per trap (the full ten shots).

regardless, those fire immunes and steroided hell monsters are going to give you alot of trouble.

well your not going to be much protection until your at least level 70, so get to rushing !
theres peoples lives who need saving, and your taking your time? the longer you wait the more people will die because of your dilly dallying
and good luck against barb pks, even with a sorc against a barbarian who has all of the elemental protection it is tough, let alone a trapassin
I am taking my time because I don't like rushing. Besides that, the barbarian PKers will have trouble with me for two reasons. One, they will expect a lightening trapper, they're in for a flaming surprise. Two, I have been practicing not to get hit, so good luck to anybody who is trying to hit me.

kudos for not wanting to make a cookiedin tho. but waiting an hour to clear the den of evil doesnt define a rush.
i have an hc assassin right now too. uses claws tho.
