Since the release of the monk I have had this bad itch to play some d2. Unfortunately my only computer is a mac book pro :(. Anyways, when i insert the cd and try to install the game an error message comes up saying, "You cannot open the application "Diablo 2 Installer" because the Classic environment is no longer supported." I had this problem like 6 months ago when i tried to install the game. I contacted a blizzard tech support person and they eventually came to the conclusion that my graphics card wasn't supported by the diablo2 graphics or something of that sort. The lady said they were working on a patch but she didn't know how long it would take. So after the release of the monk I figured they would have fixed the problem with the "classic environment", but they haven't. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem when trying to install on a mac with an integrated graphics card? If so, were you able to fix this?? PLEASE I MUST PLAY D2!!!!
I just installed it on an old SiS chipset with basic dx7 integrated graphics.
So I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.
I'm 100% sure it's the operating system, more specifically the graphics drivers for that os.
EDIT:Quick web search reveals that since Leopard build 10.5.2, the 256 color support in the drivers for Intel IGPs and nVidia GPUs has been removed. "Classic environment" gone. Maybe updating drivers to latest beta will fix the problem.
This as well: Diablo 2 does not support OpenGL under Mac OS. You have to select 'Software' under Video in Diablo II Options before you can launch it for the first time (otherwise it will crash as you described). After that, click on Battle.net and download the update. You can then change your graphics settings to whatever you want using Diablo II Options.
There is an installer on the Diablo2 webite that claims to be for "Diablo (OS X), but requires another pc capable of d2 installation for you to play d2 on your macbook so NO GO.

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
I didnt want to start a whole new thread so i thought id use this one if thats ok..
I found my copy of Diablo2 yesterday and decided to install it but one of the CDs has a scratch on it and wont work, so i attempted to download it off of the blizzard site but when i do, it says that there was a problem authenticating my download..so i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to sort this. Thanks =]
well, after browsing the internet and reading multiple complaints of other uses with the leopard operating system I have come to a dreadful conclusion. I will not be able to play d2 on my macbook because leopard doesn't support the "classic" applications anymore. I read of one program that could make it work but i would have had to find a diablo 2 mac ROM image, which i read that someone did, but in order to get the image they needed a computer that was "classic" compatible. To sum this up.. I might committ suicide since i can't play diablo 2.. if they don't read my suicide note on the news here is what is says, "Run, Run away!" (sorc's voice).

NOOO!!! Diablo 3 is too far away god damnit!
You could always install XP and then D2 on a virtual machine. Not the best fix but it might work. Just checked VMware's site and they have a nice program called Fusion. http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
Try registering your cd-key on a new battle.net account, you can download the latest install (already patched) for mac OS X, maybe that will solve your problems (or maybe not)
also, try doc. google
