Somthing i've been wondering about that i'm unsure if it's been posted about before is... People are saying Diablo 3 is bad, or well not bad but got boring quickly because they would farm and farm and farm yet still find nothing due to super-low drop rates but they have to be low due to the amount of players... I mean a big part of what made Diablo 2 work was the lack of people. There was what, 50k, maybe 100k people per realm which meant that drop rates could be higher as there would be less people farming e.g. unique has a 1 in 1million drop chance, if theres 100k players then u could say every 10 kills from each player would prob have 1 unique drop but if t here was 10 million people then every 0.5 kills would have a unique drop, flooding the market. This meant that due to there being less people and thus higher drop rates farming was more fun cus u get lots of loots, progressing in gear more or less every day hell I remember starting 1 day in 1 set and by the end of that day having upgraded every piece. Yet i'm sure that if the amount of ppl that got D3 went and played a new ladder in d2 (with all the hacks/dupes fixed) within 1 week everything in the game would be common apart from those godly rares and the game would be more or less dead. Which is what forced the exceedingly low drop rates in Diablo 3, but due to those low drop rates farming is boring because u can go weeks without moving forward at all which is just demoralizing. This is in my opinion the biggest issue with D3 simply that farming isn't rewarding enough because good gear is just to rare, yes there are a lot of other issues but if back when I farmed I was getting upgrades every day then i'm almost certain id still be playing today and until this issue is fixed I don't see how anything else will make me want to play. I play a diablo game for those lootz and if i'm not getting them id rather just play somthing else.
So, with that in mind I had a sort of solution, what if they did servers like in WoW. Say u pick server 4 and it has a max capacity of 100k accounts this way they could raise the drop rates a lot because theres a lot less people meaning that without having the market being flooded with loot people would still be finding upgrades more or less every day just like in Diablo 2 which for me would make the game 1000x more fun. They can add what ever filler like paragon levels etc... but for me, if I play for 3 hours and get 0 good loot then i'm gnna be bored and just stop and until that issue is fixed I can't see the game ever moving forward. It's a very basic idea atm, but what do people think of it? Is it just retarded stupid and I should feel bad for even thinking it or could it be somthing that would work?
I started a post with the economic view of Blizzard regarding the G/RMAH and how your idea would fail from their point of view. But in the middle of it I realized that maybe that was a nice idea after all. Considering we do have 3 servers right now, making them even smaller wouldn't affect them much I guess, since lower prices/inflation from Server A should be offset by higher prices on Server B.
Wouldn't mind it at all if they did it, but I'm also not bothered if they don't.
I don't think segregating the community is the answer to anything. I mean what if I play on server 1 but my friend on 4 because 1 is full?
I just think any form of restriction of how many people can play together is not a good idea, unless it's needed like in mmo's where servers would explode if everyone tried to be on just one.
Regions being less divided is something I'm grateful for. East/West etc.
I don't think economics function like this. If you have more ppl playing the game, sure, the amount of items get higher, but the demand for items also goes up, and they should be proportional (the ratio is affected by more effects, but lets not get deep into theory and assume that all gamers playing D3 are equal in every way). So, if I understood it correctly, it should not matter how many players are playing in one region.
Right.

And then I immediately stopped reading.

Right.
