I really enjoy the Butcher fight in D3, but I don't think they should have named the Act1 boss after him. In D1, there was a definitive reason for his name. You enter a room full of blood and chopped up bodies. In D3, he's basically caged up trying to stop you from getting to save Tyrael. The journal entry for him was a little disappointing too.
If he would have had a different name, I'm not sure anyone would have cared. He was such an important element in D1 that lingers on.
one thing I did loved was crossing the river to get to adria's hut, in D1 I saw it so many times I ended up liking it, and now, seeing it with all the 3d water effects was like finally getting to see what I imagined it would be! little things make games good
Game needs more 'torn flesh of the souls' in diablo 3. That is all, oh and well... more people reading you can disturb and kill because them reading is evil? Yeah! More than 1 atleast!
I liked the mushroom reference and I admit at first I didn't like the Dark Wanderer being Leah's father, but it stopped bothering me after a while.
I laughed my ass off that Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac is an item. That was great, truly, made me remember some of my first times playing the Diablo series.
I did NOT like the Butcher. Such a disappointment. I almost wish he and the Skeleton King had their positions in the storyline swapped. The Butcher just doesn't feel like an end boss to me, at least that's not my memories of him.
no one said that? really? I mean REALLY?, the Giberring Gemstone! source of curiosity for many many players in D2s Battle.net (you know the little gem you could activate and deactivate and changed colors from purple to blue, wich didn't had any purpose?, there's one in the bottom page of the Skill calculator page, and it,s also an item needed for the Staff of Herding
After all, Necromancers aren't evil, they are the keepers of "the balance"...Hmm, maybe I should keep it to that for now, before I start an (even longer) string of theories.
I assumed while that guy had become a Necromancer, he wasn't necessarily a Priest of Rathma. Like I always assumed there were many rogue Necros throughout Sanctuary that raised the dead all the time but not by the sanction of the Rathma order. Like Nihlathak was even a rogue Necromancer in my opinion. And not JUST because he exploded corpses.
Well we know demons and angels can raise and control the dead, as well as the Witchdoctor who, as far as I know, has no connection to Rathma, Kalan, or Trag'oul. So I wouldn't say it's specific to anyone.
The complete absence of any reference to Trag'Oul is what upset me. I do like how they referenced some characters. The Assassin I think is hinted to have killed the Sorceress of D2 in the Wizards story? Something I don't think they got across well was some of the companions stories. The Enchantress being a follower of The Prophet during The Sin Wars, The Templar being of the Zakarum faith I believe, they were very careful about trampling any actual lore I think. They did take a lot of the Butcher story and twist it though.
Well Jondar obviously looks just like the Necro as far as his gear is concerned so I can see where people would start thinking that at least. I think Trag may be too abstract relative to the physical world of Sanctuary to ever play any active role in the game. Not that you'd need some sort of thorough explanation of why he'd get involved in it all, but I think any expansion of D3 will focus more on what to do with Heaven now. Cause despite the warm narrative Tyrael gives at the end about humans and angels united together, I think it's only going to be a temporary truce. Especially now that our character has killed the Prime Evil, angels should definitely perceive a much greater threat from the Nephalem. Also it seems obvious Imperius will be a boss fight eventually.
Also, even Trag was only mentioned in the game as some of the Necro's skills and in the manual, right?
But with all the cultists in D3, I really thought we'd see an Assassin NPC since arguably many cultists are merely corrupted sorcerers and that's what Assassin's go around killing.
Another part that sorta disappointed me was the fact that whatever Maghda's cult came out to be named, in concept it was called The Triune. So it got my hopes up and she ended up just being some flunky of Belial.
I remember from a Diablo book I read how the Triune actually had more direct dealings with Azmodan. The whole shpeal of Magha kind of pissed me off. And I'm sorry, but she really does just look like some WoW character. And her dialogue was terribly cliche. Yeah with all the cultists they should've referenced the Triune much more.

Ah yes, very true that one. I do hope that they'll properly use Necromancers in some point too.
Available at the start of the Quest: A Shattered Crown (Act I)
Covetous Shen:
Hm, I do like this Deckard Cain fellow. It's rare that I can find someone I have so much in common with.
Player:
You do not seem very similar.
Covetous Shen:
We both had rather interesting experiences with the Zakarum priestesses in our youths.
That's funny. Especially when you notice his (Cain) comment about Anya in D2:
Ah, Anya. Such a fine example of feminine strength... She reminds me of the Zakarum priestesses I knew in my youth. They don't take vows of chastity, you know.

It has been said... that in the end of all things... we would find a new beginning. But as the shadow once again crawls across our world... and the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind... the people pray for strength and guidance. They should pray for the mercy of a swift death... for I've seen what the darkness hides!
... I don't think it's safe here.
Hoping for Pink Chain Lightning in D3!

My favorite is how they added more of Lachdanan, he was my favorite from the diablo series. I just really liked his story and personality ect. ( Kinda reminds me of Tyrael tbh ). I'm glad that more people will get to learn about him now xD
If he would have had a different name, I'm not sure anyone would have cared. He was such an important element in D1 that lingers on.
Battle.net Profile / Diablo Progress Profile
Captain Jarulf (named from a guy who made a guide for Diablo and Helfire, AND also common name from the mercenaries you could get on D2 act III)
Asheara (she is the Iron Wolves commander)
