I have found some weird leveling mechanics that revolve around joining friends games that are higher leveled. I am an IT admin and have been playing off and on today depending on when I had free time. Everytime I join back to play my friends are 3-4 higher than me. Within 45 minutes I am able to get back to the same level as them. I am wearing some +exp gear but nothing too crazy. It seems there is some form or exp normalization going on that allows the lower level person to catch up much faster. So far this has allowed me to play hours less time and remain the same level. Anyone else noticed this?
When you're with your higher leveled friends... are you going into more difficult areas that are further than you normally play your character in? I mean, it would make sense if you were leveling faster because your group's taking out enemies that are higher level than you.

according to jay during the best buy interview you actually get a penalty for fighting monsters out of your level range
after the penalty is taken into consideration though the higher level mobs may still yield more exp than "at level" mobs...though jay also said that the penalty isn't very steep at low levels
Yes the mobs were higher than me and would nearly 2 or 3 shot me. I just found it interesting since there is a penalty for the lvl difference, yet I caught up very fast. With enough +exp gear you can really speed things up. One of our friends log in our game and lvl 1 on his wd while everyone was 17 and he caught back up to everyone at lvl 20 as they plowed through high lvl mobs with him following.
Yeah it happened to me to , i just did normal + few of act1 nightmare with 3 friends and one of em left at around 9:30 am and then came back at 10:30 and when we left he was only 1 lvl lower than us . But he was 3 level lower when he joined back .
