I voted yes only because I HOPE they do. The cinematics are really, REALLY immersive. They need to totally dump a huge budget into the cinematics department and make a big-screen feature!
DREAMWORKS AND PIXAR, YOU DON'T STAND A CHANCE AGAINST THE DIABLO MOVIE MACHINE!
I personally hate the idea. I've always viewed movies as dumbed down versions of real art, Taking long epic stories and dumbing them down into an hour or two worth of "BANG KABOOM EXPLOSIONS DERP DEPR LOVE STORY CLIFFHANGER????"
On a serious note, I agree with the idea that Hollywood has a knack for grabbing ahold of something great and just fucking running it into the ground in the name of squeezing every last possible red penny out of a franchise. I would rather never see a Diablo movie than to have that happen.
Also, I have a feeling that it's just not going to happen. Considering that World of Warcraft is practically a household term right next to Kleenex and there STILL isn't a Warcraft movie, then there's no way there will be a Diablo movie. To remain true to the maturity levels of said games, a WoW movie would probably be PG-13, and anything less than R for Diablo would be sacrilege. PG-13 ALWAYS reaches a much broader audience than R, and in the interest of keeping investors happy, PG-13 should and would be the first venture for Blizzard on the big screen I would think.
So, I guess the game will have to suffice for us for now!
Im torn on the idea. While part of me screams yes! yes! yes! Another part of me truly believes this sort of story should be confined to video gaming. It's tricky to make a movie about a small band of adventurers figting their way through a labyrinth hunting a menacing evil being. Its tough to not make it campy and appeal to a wide enough audience so you'd at least triple your money. Being CGI as people would like would also make the movie absurdly expensive.
They'd have to make the movie something a little more accessible, such as the story of the Eternal Conflict, which is a pretty appealing light vrs. dark story. But if you do that there really isnt going to be a human character for audience members not 'in the know' so to speak, they can relate to. They could make it after the Dark Exile and the hunting of the Three by the Horadrim I suppose but they'd have to end it on a cliffhanger (Tristram) and if the movie does poorly we'd be stuck with a single Diablo movie that ends before the lore of the games, never to finish. I'd go crazy to be honest.
Yeah, I dunno, maybe I'm off base, but I just dont figure it would translate well.
A Diablo film has been actually in pre-pre-production for years. So yes, there's a very good chance it happens (not all movies pass this stage, mind you, though).
The conditions have to be perfect. Blizzard will not let their games be made into bad movies from bad filmmakers.
Oh you mean like The Last Airbender by M. Night Shayamafuck? Who RUINED the first movie in the series (which will probably now never become a series because of it) ?

You thought he was perfect for it? lol I said perfect, he wasn't.
I think the guy who did the reboot of Star Trek would be a good choice for a Starcraft movie. As for Diablo movie my pick would be Ridley Scott. (Loved his 'Alien' movie!). I think his skill at portraying horror would work.
No, I don't think there will ever be a Diablo movie.
Why not? As somebody already stated above, look at World of Warcraft for your answer. That is a far more well-known product among the general public, has arguably a much deeper lore from which to draw the story for a movie, and yet it still hasn't been made into a movie despite many years of pre-production work.
WoW movie's been "in the works" for years now and there's not been any new info for... well, for years, so I doubt a Diablo movie is going to happen any time soon. Then again, I DO recall a video (might have been one of the unlocked ones?) with developers where they talked about getting their awesome CG video team on a "longer" project, hinting towards a movie. Who knows? I'd go see it in a heartbeat if it was all CG/animation, but I'd probably be pretty wary if it was live-action.
Edit: that developer video I mentioned might have been a blue post. Look, I remember it came from someone at Blizz, okay?

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
Would likely make for a great movie if they didn't try to use real actors. I have never seen a good fantasy type show done with real actors, and be anything other than a pile of shit.
Dragonball Z evolution
The Last Airbender (Avatar)
Both just epic failures.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
I don't think Blizzard would ever do a live-action movie about one of their games.
Maybe if it was full-CG, then it would be possible. But, even then, I don't see it happening for any game from Blizzard to become a movie. It's just not their kind of market.

EDIT: they could do it about Uldyssian I suppose.
This is news I even heard back in 2007 and it's not true at all.

They also stated a while ago that they would consider making a Starcraft movie but only if James Cameron (Director of Avatar) Agreed to direct it..
It costs too much to do 1h30 of such quality CG. Unless you mean normal movie with some CG which is more probable even though I still doubt it.
The problem is it would probably be shitty.
