if a simple UI you'll only be using to switch skills ruins the game for you. you have a lot bigger issues bud. ive never played a game where i liked the UI or thought it was easy to use. its just somethign every gamer has to deal with when you cant use mods to change the interface. it has zero barring on the actual gameplay and fun of the game .

playin around with it on diablo3 skill calculator site and on an emu since i dont have beta, it's completely clunky as hell to find what you want everytime you wanna switch in a new skill or find that new rune ability.
remember you're getting like 2-4 abilities/passive per level after like 10. You get new ability and you go into skill UI and search for "new" in small letter or you go and try and quickly browse and find it only to struggle because of these categories and the rune abilities aren't in your face as before.

yes it is clunky. but like i said its something every gamer has to deal with because most games have terrible UI's in at least one part of the game or another. sometimes entire games UI's are terrible. after spending around 30 hours using the new skill calc and using it in-game you get used to it just fine and stop caring and enjoy the game.

A solid clean UI used to be a trademark of a Blizzard game. I can't think of a single Blizzard game in which I've struggled with the UI. Even WoW is usable (but people made Mods that make it even better).
This will be the first game to end that trend and it's a bit disappointing that they're getting so much feedback about the system but they just don't seem to care.
Peoples are whining and upset because they game never get released, now they want to push the release date even further back. Nice!
I suppose the thought didn't cross your mind that they aren't the same people?
Indeed. As I've stated on the official forums as well, I would rather wait an extra month for a complete revamp of the skill UI, than have it released as it is in patch 13.
You wait for first or second path and I will go to hell in the meantime

Agreed blizzard has done really well in the past and it seems now that they are just dropping the ball on alot of there stuff. Chat channels are crap, no lan, no clan channel support, I mean wc3's bnet still surpasses sc2's and most likley d3's by far!!! I just don't understand why they dropped down so much.

huh? dude WoW's UI is effing garbage. why do you think theres so many damn mods for it? because it sucks so bad. and Sc2's entire UI for battle.net is the worst shit ever. so no blizzard hasnt done well in the past at all so this new shitty UI is of no surprise
When it comes to Blizzard games, very few design decisions are set in stone. Just look at WoW and how much it's changed since it released. The skill UI is something they could easily change in a patch after release.
It's actually more difficult for me to find skills I alredy knew existed, but are just basically spread through 6 or so random unlisted (1-6) pages of skills. It's doable, as always, but the skill UI really is a piece of trash. The previous UI, and especially the previous online calculator's were superior in every possible way.
I'm sure most of us thought the Skill UI from patch 13 was a rough draft and we assumed that it'd updated in a future patch where at least we'll get all of the skills on one page.
I think any hope of that happening has been lost today. The talent calcs on blizzard's website have been updated to the same UI that is in patch 13. This is sad sad day in the world of D3.
This is not a fear of change. The UI is clunky and very difficult to use. I'm pretty disappointed
I don't mind the skill UI, it just needs a few minor changes and it does what I need it to do.
keep in mind its not a hard change for them to impliment. they could just add an option in the display menu like elective mode or advanced tooltips, reverting the UI to the old version. even if games in mass production now, they could make it a patch for when you first log into b.net

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)
I very rarely say anything negative, but the skill ui is currently an abomination. I find myself playing the game less then patch then any other and I have had the beta since early December. I blame the ui for this because the new rune system is great.
The reason the UI is designed as it currently is to account for limitations in a console environment (most importantly, the limitations of a controller). It is obvious in game development that when designing a game for multiple platforms, the development is focused on a single product (to save development costs) for the most used environment, and then that product will then be portted to whatever other environment is necessary. So I think its clear with the UI designed as it is, the D3 team is focussed on the console environment, while PC players will have to settle for a crappy port with a cumbersome UI. I'm not opposed to a console version, what I'm opposed to is a console version while the PC version suffers. Each of these versions should have their own development track, where neither experience would suffer as a result of them having a shared development track.
The team is developing for the widest audience possible, and that means catering to what I like to call the lowest common dumbass. All the while, those of us with more than two brain cells get stuck playing a modern version of pacman. I'm not suggesting that my opinion should reign supreme over all others, however I do feel that the team is disenfranchising a large group of gamers, which are quite frankly, highly irritated if not completely pissed.
My philosophy has always been that hardcore players should be able to screw up their characters as they choose, while casuals can be provided with a 'guided' experience. I think this approach is better suited to "easy to play, difficult to master".
In the end, I knew when it was first mentioned that the team would be looking at a console version, I knew all of us PC players were going to get screwed. Their statement(s) that console development wouldn't affect the PC development was simply a damned lie and a classic marketing runaround, because as is common knowledge, one product is developed and ported wherever necessary, and developing more than one is cost prohibitive.
They have already said that a console diablo will be an entirely new endeavor, separate and apart from D3. On top of being a completely separate project, it will be YEARS before we even get so much as a glimpse at it.
D3's design has nothing to do with a console version.

Look at wc3 the UI and battle.net features were BRILLIANT!! Absolutly fun with LAN and Clan support. They had it all well together in the past. Now it all just went to shit. D1's and Sc1's battle.net system is WAYY better than sc2's really. I would rather play sc2 looking like that than what it is now.
