I was thinking about the rare monsters we have seen so far in the beta.
Each of them had a specific "type": Illusionist, Plagued, Molten, Electrified, Arcane Enchanted, Knockback, Frozen, Teleporter (if I missed some please add to the list)
Just looking at these few types (I bet there will be more in final release) I thought about nasty encounters you can made.
Example: you meet a Frozen pack and while you are fighting you stumble upon an Arcane Enchanted bunch of guys...frozen will slow you down a lot while a rain of arcane projectile batter you to death....scary!
I was thinking about higher difficulties and another thought came to mind: what if in Nightmare (or Hell, or Inferno) this "types" stack on a single rare? In D2 we had "Fire enchanted cold immune lighting immune". What will happen if this work in a similar way in D3?
Example: you meet a rare who is both "Illusionist" and "Electrified"...the situation could became really..."electrifying"...
..and if three "types" can stack on a single rare monster...
I agree with Rizh, sometimes the challenge is nice! I remember running into a mob in DII that was immune to everything, and physical, but somehow my friend and I were managing to do damage to him... VERY little at a time. It took so long to kill this one guy (it was some undead monster in Act II somewhere). At first we didn't think he was taking any damage, since it said he was immune to all schools and physical, but somehow he was taking very small amounts of damage. We're still not sure how it happened. o.O
I think the same would be fun in Diablo III (maybe not taking THAT long to kill it though). It's so much more rewarding when the monster dies.
In D2 you can meet monsters almost "indestructible" and it's frustrating, but does not happen too often.
I feel the approach in D3 is different.
It's not about not being able to kill but to be careful not to be killed and not to kill the wrong monster at the wrong time at the wrong place.
Killing a Frozen - Arcane while you are in the middle of the lot could be fatal.
Revenge also has plenty of situational uses, and saved my life once during early gameplay. During one of my early play-throughs of the Beta I came across a mod of Illusionist Grotesque mixed with some Skeletal Archers and regular Skeletons. Mods who are classified as Illusionists split into three when at 30% health or lower, each of the copies spawn with the same amount of heath the original creature had when it split.
So upon my slaying of the first Grotesque, it predictably exploded. What I didn't realize was the explosion had brought all of the other Grotesque to below 30% heath, so they each split into three. There was now give or take 15 Grotesque surrounding me. On top of that, the explosion killed the two Grotesque the original one split into, so a chain reaction of explosions occurred all around me, nearly killing me instantly (I wish I had a screen shot). Lucky for me, I had Revenge equipped and it had activated. I swiftly deployed the skill, killing most of the Corpse Worms which would have surely taken me, regained a good amount of health from the hits, which granted me enough time to grab some nearby health globes; effectively saving me from a certain and comical death.
That's a good example of what could happen.
Also in MP being aware of your partners position/situation will be crucial.
Being able to handle such situations could be one of the differences between a skilled player and a not so skilled one.
As far as we have seen there are "offensive" types (Arcane, Plagued, Frozen, Molten, Electrified) and "situational" (Illusionist, Teleporter, Knockback).
No "defensive" (Iron skin?) so far but I bet there will be many other types in final release.
I think Blizzard is aware of the fact that some combo could be REALLY difficult to handle and they will try to not make the same mistake twice.
I also think this is an issue they could handle via patch quite easily, so maybe some fixing will be done after the release.

What do you think?

I was reading this post where Winged write:
