Does anyone know if we're going to see a return for Ethereal items? I don't want to see any more good gear ruined by such a lame attribute.
And I guess while we're on the subject, did anyone like having Ethereal items around? As for myself, I always treated them like "damaged" or "low quality" items: they never made it back to town with me. I feel like in this game, they would just become cauldron or cube fodder. And there was nothing I hated more than finding worthwhile gear, but was committed to only using it for about 12 minutes because it was Ethereal.
Ethereal items had their place, if only more widely used with a few select runewords and unique/set items, nearly any item was worth being ethereal with a Zod rune. It gave incredible boosts to damage and armor that cannot be ignored. As for Diablo 3, I don't see them being in the game, since runes are a totally different system now.
A little off topic though, I remember before D3's announcement, we were all speculating if the ethereal items should return, and a few people brought up the idea of "Angelic" and "Demonic" weapons. These would be items that had very distinctive looks, such as the Angelic items glowing white and being pristine, while the Demonic ones were dark and jagged and full of spikes. A cool concept, not unlike the ethereal items, with a visual twist.

That sounds really cool. I would love to see these types of weapons in Diablo 3. Something unusual and out of the ordinary to get players excited and make the constant search for loot even more rewarding and intriguing. =)
I would like to see the ethereals again, as long as there is something compared to zod rune, or they can roll with repair durability. Just makes more rare and powerful items to find.

I agree, Although useful at times in general they were a pain in the ass

I also like the idea of demonic/angelic weapons and think there is some good flavor there.
