Barbarian: Looks around, 'Oh goodness, all this gold and nowhere to put it!' Pulls fanny pack from under his furs 'Gooooodnness me! I must remember to bring more next time!'
I could see the Barb and the Dwarf running into a dungeon with chests pouring out gold and the Barb throwing the Dwarf to the ground, taking his bags... and walking away with the gold.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
1. Backpacks being displayed would distract from the general character awesomeness.
2. Character strength determining inventory size is retarded. Barbs could carry everything and Wizards would be left out.
3. We don't 'place points' in stats anymore. Our stats level up automatically now. Only in skills do we place points.
I'm with Shisou here, but maybe more people would be pleased if there was an option to display a pack of some sort.
Backpacks make sense whne you are considering laws of physics, and I too would like them. This reminds me of how you can open a chest in D2 and out pops 2 lochaber axes and a polearm.
You know how small those chests were in blood moor. Just sitting in the middle of nowhere...
The biggest reason I see is that it would help immerse a player into the game...
A barbarian running around hacking monsters with a backpack on his back is immersive?
A pouch with two halberds in it is immersive?
Back with Heretic II, the idea was that all carried items were teleported onto an ethereal plane, which permitted you to use tons of items but still allowed your char to look fine without any extra weird bags. Let's keep it that way.
I don't want too see big bags everywhere - but when I enter town with my sword, axe or staff, it would make sense if I had a holster too put it in
For example, your character could put his shield onto his back and put his sword in his holster. Or if a Barbarian had 2 axes, he could tie those 2 axes onto his back. Daggers around the ankle. Staff of the back. etc
It never made sense to me why I would be walking about a friendly town with my weapon out
In Diablo 1, in town you had your helmet under your arm and your sword sheathed. Then again, town was a completely separate zone, so animating between those models wasn't an issue.
Backpacks dont have to be huge or bulky. The option to have them disabled for visuals is not a bad idea. But, I really miss a weight system in rpgs. Oh well, so much for that converstation
Well weight systems are a different story. As far as I know, they are in D&D games. Im actually playing some classic RPGs (currently the Baldurs Gate series) to kill time while waiting for D3.
But in D3 since every item only takes up 1 slot of the inventory, I dont think that a weight system is necessary. It is a hack n slash game afterall, so the inventory system is and should be uncomplicated
Yeh... I'm gonna have to go with a 'No' for this one...
It doesnt really make sense.. I mean like.. yeh sure we could carry our stuff in it because how can a sorc carry a bunch of armor... But then again... When the hell do we see a bunch of flying demons outside and then a barbarian rush in and crush them with a maul? I mean come on... Let Diablo continue its Demonic genre... No need for that amount of reality in it.
Like imagine seeing the Necromancer with his spiky bone armor and his skeletal army and... (drum roll) The big brown backpack on his back!!!! How intimidating!! Rawr!
Haha, I dunno, I just find that it would take away from the characters and the general feel of it being demonic and 'hellish' kind of feel.
It's the same basic concept.
The only difference is the Medieval pouch goes with the Diablo Universe.. the one above goes for pizza drivers and old guys who wear short-shorts to the beach with socks and sandles.

Well, if they do decide to do this at least the Necromancer will still have his dignity due to the fact he won't be a playable character.

Exactly what I was thinking.
Dwarf: Noooooooooooooooooooo!

could be compared to a Medieval pouch like:
(Wow, guess I posted that a bit slow...)
The fact that they both sling down from the waist moves me.
:offtopic:Wonder if there will be changes to social groups...

Let's just agree to dissagree.
