Blizzard announced pay-to-play aspects of unlocking certain unannounced things in Diablo 3. Blizzard also announced that Starcraft 2 will be split into a 3-parter; Each game costing as much as the full price ($150 for one game total). I feel... abused.
Actually... never mind. Nothing said on these forums makes a difference to Blizzards marketing strategy. People will buy SC2, realize at the end that it is only 1/3 of the game, and be pissed off at the "Halo 2 cliffhanger".
Diablo fans will realize that they have to pay to play, get tired of it, and move on.
If not, at least I will. Blizzard lost at least one fan today, and I will say no more.
Edit: To make 40 quests with the same game engine, graphics, sounds, doodads, and balanced units completed should take... what, 1-2 months? They said it could take more than a year in between each release. I fail to see how making 30-40 quests with the same game is going to take a year.
Edit 2: (Diablo fans will realize that they have to pay to play, get tired of it, and move on.)
Update--- Battle.net will have certain mechanics that will require payments of real money. Certain features may include character transfer, item transfer, and other misc. features that have not been announced.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
The pay-to-play aspects are likely to not be key features of the game, only luxeries that may not make much of a difference. If they do, they're probably aware that their fanbase may shrink.
As for SC2, I don't play it, I love RTS games, but never cared about SC2. However I like the idea of splitting it into 3, it seems better off like that, however they shouldn't charge full-game price per each one. Make each one worth around two fifth of the total (so if you buy all 3 you're only paying a bit more than the full game alone).

Hopefully those features they are talking about is just things like realm change, name change, sex change, maybe respec Nothing major and nothing month by month. I hope to god.

That's what I got from it when they said microtransactions. But even if they did make it P2P, I will be their first customer.
I still don't see what the big problem is. Regarding Diablo, Jay said that they will only be monetizing some the features that the D3 makes specifically for battle.net. They won't be required and I doubt they'll be game breaking.
And regarding Starcraft 2, I think blizzard make the right choice of the three.
- Simplify the campaigns significantly, and make fewer maps, cinematics etc.
I think this is the obvious wrong choice. Why would anyone want fewer maps, cinematics, and a generally watered down campaign.
Do the three epic pieces, but delay the game greatly.
This choice, imo, is better then the choice above. The problem is, taking into account what Chris Sigaty said, that there would be about a year in between each part, we would have to wait till 2011 for Starcraft 2.
Make each of the campaigns EPIC, but separating them into individual products.
This, in my opinion, was the best choice. This way, we'll get the game in 2009, featuring the Terran campaign and the full multiplayer portion of the game (with all races). Then in 2010 we'll get the missing zerg campaign. And finally in 2011 we'll get the missing protoss campaign.
We don't know what they will price the other parts at anyway. I think its safe to assume that theyre going to price them as expansions ($30), knowing Blizzard. But even if it were 50 dollars, it'd be well worth it. We're getting three epic campaigns with 28-32 hours of gameplay each! And is 50$ spread across three years really that much, when you're getting quality games?
People will buy SC2, realize at the end that it is only 1/3 of the game, and be pissed off at the "Halo 2 cliffhanger".
Ah, you're one of those people who were pissed at the Halo 2's ending? I'm not so sure you can really compare this situation to what happened at the end of Halo 2.
As for D3 costing money to play online, are you sure about this? I've heard different things.
@Killer
Don't you realize that Ikariam is basically an RTS game played as a browser game. How can you not be interested in Starcraft?
So they sell you 3 games, with the same game engine, graphics, sounds, units, actors... damn I need to go to bed.

Oh Siay I know that. I think I said that I love RTS games, but never cared for Starcraft. Believe me, a lot of my friends have the game, and got me to play a few times, but I never cared to keep going. =/

They have said that each of the campaigns will have different meta-game mechanics. The Terrans have an upgrading and persistent mechanic, the Zerg will have a genetic mutation/swarm type mechanic and Protoss will have an economic and diplomatic mechanic. And who's to say they wont add more units and what not.
Even without all that, they're working on giving us the epic experience we look for in their games... 90 hours of gameplay in just the campaigns alone!! If you take a look, Blizzard has a history of success and of making good games. Im sure they won't throw that away, and won't disappoint.
And id just lke to point out, these gaming companies aren't some sort of charities for gamers, its a business.
What I am interested in is how it will look when you have all three installments. It doesn't sound like they plan on making the last two simple expansions that just add a faction, although at this point they got to prove otherwise.
Yeah, I'm sure we're all in agreement that the last two campaigns aren't just expansions which usually run at a 1/3's length of the game. But will instead be just as long as the Terran campaign.
And isn't that typical of many people around here? To notice key words involving paying on some level and then jumping the gun?
These threads offend me. I actually am quite excited about this game (and yes, I am a veteran having played both of the previous games), and then I get on these forums and all these whiners depress me. I wonder if I should quit Diablofans....... hmm........ No, then I'd be like these people who bug the crap out of me. Good grief.
I suppose one form of payment could be: Extra slot of characters for your account. If you were given 10 slots or something at start.. who knows. Another one could be: Extra slots of shared stash. All kinds of conviniences.
I just hope none of these features make 1 character stronger than other. Like you could buy more gem slots or something like that. That wouldn't be fair or fun even if I would pay for it.
Hopefully those features they are talking about is just things like realm change, name change, sex change, maybe respec Nothing major and nothing month by month. I hope to god.
And minor things like those are worth paying monthly for ?
Those features should be absolutely free, I can't even believe those features are considered as luxuries.
from what ive heard diablo 3 wont be pay 2 play but pay for luxuries and sc2 is goign to happen like this th first game with terran campaign normal price and then the two others add the zerg and protoss campaign and maybe new maps and maybe new units.....these suposed to be priced around 20 dollar expansion..this is what ive heard so far but nothigntot he affect of pay to play ror each game costing as much as the first

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I don't like Episodic installments of games, such as, Sam and Max and Half Life 2. It just drags the series on to long and feels like your getting portion sized games whether the price is to high or alright. There will be less variety due to being limited to one campaign every x amount of months, unless someone waited for all three installments to release and bought them all separately or in a future battle chest. Didn't Dawn of War release like 31 installments.
