Nah, the hostility function as we know it is completely gone, and that has been confirmed. Both players will have to agree to become hostile before they can attack one another.
Lol I rather like having to agree. I dont need some fag just commin in and hostiling for no damn reason. There is a down side if you want to go kill the people runing your game though by killin Diablo (if the time thing is going to be included)

people seem to fail to understand that different persons have different things. Its like saying to an x uber guild in WoW PvE that they suck at the game because they dont prefer PvP.
There's no logic at it. Everyone does whatever he pleases as long as the game gives them the possibility. Besides, being a level 50 in Diablo and getting ganked by a level 75-90 is hardly fair. In hardcore even less. Those "really good" at the game in your logic should try fighting where they're expected, not jumping random guys and TKPKing.
I know most people dislike PK's but if they can fix the exploitive ways (like tppk) and keep it fair then it should be aloud. It's one of those necessary evils that makes the world go round. I also don't like the forcing of more intimate games. If I want to play more intimately then I'll join a clan and do so. But forcing it, wtf? I just feel like they have this vision of happiness, love, and friendship and are skewing the game to fit that mold. Fuck that. I want the raw and ruthless Diablo that I remember.
The other thing that Mr Wilson is ignoring is that the game is old. At it's peek it is likely that there were 10 times as many people playing it as there are now. The number of people per game is likely to have been much higher then. I know I had many people who played back then whom I regularly grouped with for leveling, MFing and questing. They are all gone now.
Please, the only reason why you weren't in "close knit groups" in Diablo is because you didn't have any friends. I'm pretty sure you made a kazillion "i need halp, PLZZZZ" games and felt butthurt people ignored you and if they didn't half of the time only joined your pathetic games to hostile your ass. I think i'm correct in saying that you naively expected everyone to be the goody two shoes and help out a poor sod like you, well boohoo to you and now you need big ol Blizz to make it all right for you.
ahahahaha
so true! I didn't even think of that

Bllizz knows what they're doing. He said "we don't want players who want to screw the crap out of each other with players who want to play together".
Diablo 2 had games with pvp disabled. the same thing could happen but maybe pvp disabled will be default. They could make special areas or arenas that are not player made games but with higher risks and oppurtunities where players who want pvp could go.
I think the 4 player limit is due to more than one thing. 4 player is more spooky, more horror vibe. And the technical reqs, like how much they can push the awesomeness of FX.

That's your conjecture, and it's patently false anyway. The number of players in game has nothing to do with "spooky vibe" or whatever you want to call it.

Bullshit. That's what graphics options are for. So people with mediocre systems can turn things off. They should make it look as good as they possibly can at maximum graphics options, with a host of ways to make it look worse but run faster. You know, like all other successful modern games.
Btw, MY computer is mediocre, so I'm not saying this from an uber machine standpoint. It's a god damn laptop. 1.7ghz core 2 duo, 256 mb radeon X1400, 1 gig DDR2, 5400 rpm SATA HD.

I sure hope so. But interviews like the one with Jay Wilson here are beginning to make me think otherwise. I just can't figure out WHY the lead developer is making big decisions about gameplay in Diablo 3 without having any clue what it was like to play Diablo 2. If he really cared about the game he would be talking to people and making sure his decisions are sound and make sense. He would look at Diablo 2 and figure out why it's been so popular and what parts people really enjoy and then build upon those things. Instead he seems to be letting his fluffy make-everyone-happy-so-that-everyone-buys-the-game attitude get in the way of realizing that Diablo 2's dark sides are what made it so attractive. Battle.net was the beginning of a virtual world that gave players a sense competition and survival; a new place where survival is more likely if players group together and create alliances, eventually forming guilds. The feeling of survival is completely reduced by removing the chance of hostility. If everyone is FORCED to trust each other then a large dynamic of the game is lost. Removing hostility isn't adding anything to the game, it's taking away so much more than he realizes.

PKing only made the game better for assholes. I don't see how any sense of survival is lost. Were you honestly that worried that a lvl 99 pwnURnoobASS trapsin would come in and kill you all of a sudden? I was more worried about getting cornered by a buch of baals minions and having my ass stomped to death.
I suppose my point applies more heavily to hardcore mode. And in that case people DO worry about other players killing them. I consider disproportionate levels to be an exploitive player killing tactic and it should not be aloud. It's easily prevented by restricting level requirements on games. My point is that there IS assholes in this world and even if they're annoying they give you a cause to band against. They give you a reason to join a guild and ward them off. They'll make you and your guild feel more like a community because you're like-minded and feel the same way about player killers. This is something that's lost without hostility.

I have never worried about people killing me in HC. Because they suck at it. There was no one that was able to surprise me with legit means(one time been tppkd when entering wp).

You're obviously telling a lie because according to Jay Wilson,
One of the main reasons for (playing alone) is... well, why would you want to play with someone else? They can go hostile at any time and kill you, mostly in an exploitative way. It's not fair - most of the time you'll be dead before you realise they're attacking.
And I agree that killing in exploitative ways should not be aloud. Fortunately, there's ways to remove the possibility of it happening from the game developers stand point. So if you're telling the truth, which you are, then why are they removing hostility?
Yea, there are assholes in this world. But an asshole hero sounds like an oxymoron (Hancock anyone?). You are supposed to band together against the monsters, the monsters are the assholes in this game.
You are supposed to band together against the monsters...
This is precisely the issue. What are players supposed to do? I'm all about giving players the CHOICE to do what they want to do and I think the freedoms that Diablo 2 allowed are a huge reason why it was so much fun to play.

it may be easier for the game designers to limit options but that does not mean its better.

No I'm not. Played 2000 jun to 2001 january as softcore and after that pretty much only hardcore till 2004 and was never killed during that time. Once I was in a game with friend we had around 25 level barbs in normal mode and back then (2001) you could spam click hostile. A 20 level necro was spamming hostile while 77 level lance barb also hostiled us and we didn't notice it then he came running at us and got my friend but I was able to leave before he got to me. That was the closest one I had and it was a quite nice trick that made us confused.
Then I had a long break, played when 1.10 came but not after that. There are is a lot of tppk's around nowadays and thats the one that caught me. I started playing in 1.12 and knew about tppks so I mostly soloed and never stayed around when some sorc started wondering around me. I was 83 lvl in hell a5 but one thing I forgot that someone could camp a wp and then instantly kill me when I enter. So thats the one time I've been killed in hc by a PK.

You will still get to kill people. Just not when they are busy fighting evil. It's not like they are removing pvp. Is there any other freedoms besides being an asshole that have been removed?
Well I apologize for not being more clear. I think you're telling the truth. Jay Wilson's assumption implies that you must be telling a lie. Mr. Wilson says that people are so scared of player killers that they play alone. But if that's not true then why get rid of hostility?
