I think most of you are missing the big picture here.
Imagine 8 people in a game casting over the top colorful spells and abilities. Over exaggerated lightning effects combined with complex colors plus 8ppl in the mix does not sound good to me.
... You mean like in D2 when you had a pally casting hammers, sorc with frozen orb, sorc with meteor, a barbarian cranking away with lightning weapons, a neco with mage summons, and a amazon with poison javelins?

People casting colorful spells was in D2 also.
yes but it was pretty basic. green, poison, blue ice. etc etc/ if wasn't over the top "flashy"
you could tell what was pretty much happening. the d3 game play video when all four characters are fighting the trees right before the end... is pretty outta control.
There will clearly never be an end to the bitching and whining, The barbarian will be nothing short of 10x funner to play in d3. Barbarians in d2 had magic abilities, you think shouting and buffing other players isn't some how magically influenced? They are even giving you specific reasons as to why its being introduced into the game, it has meaning and if color is a problem for you well i guess you are just going to have to get used to it

Out of control?
Maybe that's because we're not familiar with the spells yet.
I didn't think it looked out of control, pretty basic attacks.

Haha, check... mate.
Also they said they are looking at making games 4-5 players instead of the old 8 player...

Wow... either you're straight up lying, or you never played D2/watched the video. because it's the exact opposite of what you just said.

The spell colors I have seen so far are less bright than they were in D2, so I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. The fact that they have more detail is simply because its a new game. Have you ever seen a baal run with 8 ppl that wasn't out of control?
I don't know how you can even compare D2 to D3. D3 is way more intense graphically. Believe me in an 8 person D3 game with all the new blizzard "flash" you will wish it was more like d1/d2

Nope... no I won't.
As Murderface said the colors seem less bright than the D2 ones.

I disagree. I thought at the end that it was a lot more tame compared to some of the runs I have done in Diablo 2. Even with the heavy use of skills.
I think another reason besides the skills are less colorful, but also because they don't clash with the environment. When you cast ice orb in ACT 1 you had a bright blue ball on a dark gray/dark green backdrop while here the environment helps skill blend in more making it look less chaotic with more people.

From what we have seen.
Watch the extra effects all the skills have in the game play video. They have been massively expanded. The barb's leap skill for example - pause the video right when he hits the ground.
That's a matter of opinion. I think it will make things more entertaining, I think it was pretty underdone before. The guy is massive and leaping into the air using only "great strength" according to the manual.
Lets be serious - a lot of the barbs spells look like they have some sort of magical fairy dust/fruity light rays all shimmery around him. While cool and appealing to the eye, I bet you if you have 8 barbs jumping around the effect would be slightly more than i/you could stomach.
sorry the barb seems funny with all the wacky colorful spell effect shit coming off him

It's over done. Way over done.
They are making the barbarian and all other classes seem more powerful and they are doing a good job of it. The new leap actually looks powerful *OH NOES* back to the old boring leap!

Opinions are like assholes everybody has one and they all stink

by adding cool lights and fairy dust to old skills?
the more i watch the game play vid the more out of place he seems now. he's a melee class - or supposed to be. you pretty much expect not see all the flash and dazzle of a spell caster class.

Are we only comparing this to the Diablo series or other series?
Barbarian in D2 didn't have any magic abilities, but magically enhanced bloodline. It's in the manual right next to me but I don't feel like typing it all out, it's pretty big.
Nevermind I'll type the important part:

They derive their power chiefly from intense physical training,[B] BUT[/B'] they also tap primal energies from the living world around them.
Yeah , speaking of the barbarian magic skills , their really wasnt none. It was kind of stupid cause when you do whirlwind or that swing skill ( forgot name ) why does it use mama cause I was expecting your stamina to go down not your freakin mana.

The barb finally looks FUN to play. But people really do complain about anything.
The D2 barb is by far the dullest, uncreative, most boring class that has been designed, I'm glad that's been fixed.

Why is it only the barbarian that seems funny?
Barbarians have latent magic also you know.
