as I have said before. Warlock could stem from two names, waeloga wich is oathbreaker or vad-lokkur which is spiritcaller.
The actual name for a "tranditional healer" or "healer" in Swahili is "mganga" - The name "Witch Doctor" is an amalgamation of "Witch" (from a scientific western perspective, essentially an insult, since there's no belief in magic) and "Doctor" - our, at the age of colonization, "healer".
also, since doctor in no real sense depicts healingability. Just a social view that the person has achived a certain level of knowledge. A whitchdoctor could just be a person wise and educated in all things magical.
However, since most witchdoktors have spent alot of time on trying to commune with spirits to draw out the sickness in people, I guess your version is more acurate. Also, medival european people where quite judging.

Perhaps the implausibility of its own existence makes the skeleton think it hilarious to hide in a barrel, cackling intermittently for some three hundred years until a victim happens by?

... and no one thought twice about chugging something that had been stuffed into a poisonous mummy for the last thousand years. This magical orb shit is going to ruin my sense of immersion big time.
I'm so sick of this being seen as a legitimate argument... I'm right because X is wowish... It's not even wowish at all. GAH... wtb people with higher than single diget IQ's

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
Not sure the playable classes in the Diablo series are meant to be heros of light. There is a huge lack of understanding regarding Sanctuary by a large proportion of the fanbase.
Well, some classes are "heros of light", while others are fighting for Sanctuary's survival and nothing more. Diablo 2 examples:
Paladin: Fighting for Heaven
Necromancer/Druid: Fighting for Sanctuary.
There are, from what I can tell, more classes fighting for Sanctuary then Heaven, as I believe, but am not completely sure, that Barbarians are fighting for Sanctuary, as well as Sorceresses. But again, I am not completely sure of Barbarians and Sorceresses.
that is what these people are called in tribes... i definitely would not want to cross a Witch Doctor at all... they could do some serious crap...

Maybe that's part of the problem. And Witchmaster? Never heard Witchmaster before? You need to get around.
And contrary to popular belief, Witch is not a title exclusively used for females, except in the very modern sense.
If we want to drag this into the scene of internal realism, one could ask himself where the name Witch Doctor came from. Do they call themselves Witch Doctors? Was it a given title? Again, Witch Doctor as an attributed title to african shamans and healers is purely slang; They don't actually titulate themselves as such, except possibly in an ironic sense for the more educated ones (if any).
Are there ever doctors in the world of Sanctuary? Are there enough for the connection between a spellcasting, flame-skull-throwing, shaman that displayed no healing or doctorish skills at all to be made? Doubtful.
nice post... yes Witch Doctor is a Western term used to make them seem more evil... they are supposed to be like healers or Shaman (worker in the spirit realm)... they can be good or bad either way which they flow...
if you do not like the name Witch Doctor, then maybe Warlock might be better for you... but then a Shaman is not a Warlock... totally different... they should stick to Witch Doctor or just plain Shaman...
Well, Necromancers seemed to be more interested in Sanctuary's survival then Heaven or Hell, as did the Druids. The rest were with there own concerns. But thats just what I got out of it.

That would be lost on most people...
Remember, you have to keep it in small words that Hollywood uses alot.
Anyway, if they rename him Witch, I doubt I'd play. That would be a slap in the face.
Damn, kid's just like me! I think we got another Link on our hands!
