Here we can see 20 minutes of gameplay footage with a person giving info on the game. They showcase similar things that Blizzard did with Diablo 3. With this video, we get a perfect idea of what the game will be like, what it looks like, what the mood is, etc.
The exact same can be said about Diablo 3. Much like in the Farcry 2 trailer, we only see 20 minutes of the game. The issue, though, is that we can visually see the mood created by the game. We get an idea of what things look like, feel like, etc.
The trailer shows a lot. It shows us what the art style is right at this very moment.
We know for a fact by watching the Farcry 2 trailer that the game isn't going to incorporate a gothic theme, we know it isn't going to have a happy mood, we know this.
In the same way, we know what the areas we saw look like. We know that there is not a gothic theme, we know that there is not a dark mood, we know this.
We can tell from the video that the art direction isn't going to change as the game progresses - that doesn't make sense nor does it fit. We can visually see that gothic is not something they want to touch here. Why?
Because the Tristram Cathedral is the perfect place to show us gothic in D3. It is the dark place in the game.
Don't believe me? Talk to Deckard Cain about that.
"Then it started to go wrong. We began encountering these, these dark...things...imps or demons...or fallen, I think they're called. There were so many of them, all horns and flashes of red, attacking us from all sides. I don't think you could ever really be prepared for something like that. We got disoriented, which was easy to do. It was so dark....
You can see what 'It was so dark...." means to Blizzard by viewing the screenshots in that link.
This didn't need it's own thread. It should be merged into an existing topic.
No, I believe it does. This has very little to do with all of the other threads as it explains why the gameplay video shows us a lot about the game. The only thing that shares similarities with the plethora of other threads out there is the fact that I bring up the cathedral.
What I don't get is why people are complaining it's not dark enough, you clearly get a nice dark green in there adding to the creepiness of it, and the stones are big and blocky, but in Diablo lots of stuff was disproportionate
to the characters size, so I don't really get the cartoony feel, except the glowing, which I don't mind, people need to just chill out.
Can we please stop with these threads now.. If blizzard hasn't heard it yet, there's no hope anyway. I say wait and see what the other dungeons convey before you start ranting and raving about the first part of what is probably the first dungeon in the game. Thank you.
Seriously stop spamming the forum with these threads. Its getting boring reading the same fucking thread about pre-teen boys wanting DARKER stuff, you know the petition is the joke of the gaming world right now? It's really quite petty.

seems like they are confusing dark with neon green.........................very sad imo
Yep, a quick couple of renders in max, the color teal does not equal darkness..
vs..
By making the screen all illuminated and without any light radius it totally gets rid of any "alone in the dark" type of atmosphere, it ruins the adventure and unknown feeling. Enemies pop in off the side of the screen rather than loom out of the darkness.

Please look above as to why dark does not equal dark green. It doesn't add creepiness at all. This is irrelevant to this thread though.

You apparently didn't read my post. Please read it again and understand why this 20 minute gameplay video is important. Thank you.

I'm not sure what is more petty. Somebody complaining about something, or somebody complaining about somebody complaining. Or, even worse, somebody complaining about somebody who is explaining why something is very important.
This, coming from someone only two years older than me is rather troubling.

He gets it, but it's not really the point of the thread.
The subject is that the 20 minutes shows us a lot. The reason is because that dungeon, according to lore, is supposed to be dark. Deckard Cain says so himself on the Diablo 3 website. That isn't dark, and if dark is a mood they are trying to create, as was mentioned in the 20 minute video, then this is a cause of concern for EVERYONE who actually cares about the mood and feel of the game.
But the comparison shots depict exactly why the dungeon is not dark, and are perfect.
I fail to see what age has to do with it. But w/e. and I'm complaining because your about the 500th person that has voiced this exact same opinion. Sign the freakin petition and get over it we don't care.
But seriously people were bitching cuz they weren't getting Diablo 3. Then Diablo 3 is announced and people are still bitching.

According to every poll so far, you're a minority if you think the graphics are 'just fine' right now and don't need to be made darker..
When I say we I mean the handful of people that can get over the fucking graphics and accept the fact that its not the same team that made Diablo. If you wanna call it a "minority" go right ahead, I'm sure a petition in favor of the graphics would get just as many sigs. PC Gamer has refused to advertise the petition against which I found quite funny.

There is such a petition, not sure where it is, last time I checked it had 400 odd sigs
Alright, I'll take that but its not a minority theres a lot of people on here who are in favor or couldn't care either way.
Edit: I for one don't care either way as long as it doesn't affect release, But I'm really tired of getting on these forums and seeing the same thing being discussed 50 times over. Your beating a dead horse at this point.

that was a very good example you made in max Corwyn. They definitely need to go back to the light radius and get rid of the neon flood lights.
on a brighter note... Farcry 2 look fucking awesome.
