It's been on my mind for quite a while now, If you think in terms of the only other game by blizzard to be similar to diablo in terms of it being in control of a single character with skills and levels was World of Warcraft which was quite large to be honest, but the graphics were sort of dated (Though highly detailed texture wise) a magnificent game.
The graphics seem to be the same for Diablo 3 which leads me to speculate that the game world very well may be larger than the previous games (3x larger max, though sort of improbable) WoW included.
Titan Quest was released on June 26, 2006, a year after Blizzard began work on Diablo 3 again. The graphics are quite similar, I think the only difference is that the textures are not HD, but otherwise they are quite similar, as I said it's a little old but do not mistake me, I am simply saying that in support of the notion that the game world will be bigger, that does not mean it won't be good, some things are just good as they are, remember the 3D attempt of the first Command and Conquer, changing things that were perfect into something supposedly superior just ruined it. Blizzards choice of using "last years" graphics with highly detailed textures is working quite well.
(Excuse the size and focus please)
I can't find the quote but at the QNA they mentioned that the content in this game would be remarkably large. I assume that does not mean just items, but game world.
But how big is too big, the feeling I get with this game is that they want to explore the entire world of Sanctuary, is that too much? Maybe not, this game is not as defined as the others in terms of in-game dialogue (I havent read the books but i've heard they go quite indepth about sanctuary) and maybe blizzard wants to make a point of that, since most gamers are not going to go out of their way to read books about the game worlds.
Knowing the blizzard folks and their capabilities, does this seem coherent to you? It does to me, they sure tried hard to do that in Warcraft 3, maybe it wasn't the same team but the group consciousness can carry on subtle things like that can it not?
What do you all think about that, a larger world, more content, more story but with a cost of high graphical models and environments?
WoW was fairly big compared to games i have played previously. If they do make Diablo 3 bigger, they better have a mount or a very efficient way point system.
Wow is MMORPG
It won't be that big, but it'll be much bigger than D2
People always say that Diablo 2 isn't an MMO but it really is an MMO in my opinion, your characters are all on a central database and you can connect with anyone on your server (US West, US East, Asia) that's the same as WoW or Anarchy Online. The only difference is in how it's done, WoW has tons of people on a server at once, Diablo has someone host a room, but that doesn't mean it isn't mmo, it's just a different style of mmo.

You need to adjust your opinion.
A MMO game has 1,000+ players in the game at the same time.
Diablo 3 will have between 5-8 players (probably) in a game at the same time.
Huge difference between the two. One is MMO game & the other is clearly not.
Its depend. Are you asking if the game D3 will be bigger than WoW..(as in place to visits), or are you asking will Diablo the world (Sanctuary) be bigger than WoW the world (Azeroth).
If the former, then no, D3 will be smaller. But if the later, I'm not sure.
I doubt D2 let us explore all of the desert area for instance.
Yeah I agree with that, Diablo has many of the characteristics of an mmo, but I guess what defines an mmo is having everybody able to exist in the world at the same time...
Kind of sad that from that screenshot titan quest has equal or better graphics than D3. I never played titan quest though, maybe it can't handle many mobs on the screen at the same time?
Titan Quest could handle quite a few, it wasn't a very demanding game, very relatable to Diablo2 though. Kinda like Saints Row to GTA
If you look at the offical world map on the Diablo3 site, you will get an idea of how big the world is. I mean the first 3 acts of D2 are just a small part of the new world.

I was suggesting that the playable world would be bigger, not the Diablo world itself.
sorry but unless you give me a source of where you heard work began on diablo 3 in 2005, i don't believe you and don't say shit you don't know.
and to your question, no because its done in act's.
Yes well if somebody would kindly be of use and help me find it that would be swell. I think one of the Admins here was the one that brought it up at the live QNA

When it came out though, Titan Quest absolutely crushed good systems at the time. Now though it runs well with everything maxed, with current and even older hardware. I would have to disagree with the graphics being better though. TQ's graphics were good, and they had nice shader effects but from what I saw in the D3 gameplay trailer, its not even close.
It was mentioned by blizzard that they have been working on D3 for close to 5 years. You can probably find out in some of the interviews or the official D3 FAQ. I forgot where I heard that info but I definitely know it was said by Blizzard.

That wouldn't make any sense. One game is a MMORPG (WoW) & the other (Diablo) is not.
Seeing how D2 is bigger than D1, I would presume that D3 would be bigger than D2 anyways tho.
Idk about bigger than WoW tho., only bc I never really got into WoW.

I hope they don't make Diablo III that big.

I'm going to go ahead and assume at this point that the whole world is playable and will dwarf the size of the playable world in D2 by a lot.
