I remember when I first encountered the butcher, that was so long ago lol, I was scared shitless when I heard AHHH FRESH MEAT! I could never figure out how to beat him on my war, so I turned rogue, and got him to chase me till I hid behind some bars, and shot his health down a lot :P. I was so happy when I beat him lol.. than there was King Leoric.. Oh god..
Oh my god... I can't believe I hadn't thought of that xD. I remember running around with my warrior hitting him twice, running, use a healing potion, and repeat. Did the same damn thing with the rogue.
That reminds me of how much more difficult Diablo I was than Diablo II. I could smoke Andariel with a level 10 character without dying, but I couldn't beat King Leoric without running outside of the tomb screaming "What the ****?! How am I supposed to get to him with all those buffed skeletons kicking my ass?!"
"Jeremy fell first, and then I ran. I admit it: I ran, left my fellows to die. I couldn't face that thing; it was all just too horrible. "
Too funny. I myself on the other hand would try to rush him in a hail of glory, then get hacked down shortly afting arriving . Only to be added to the pile of bodies in his shop...

Life is no more than a continual search for something to cling to. One gets up in the morning to find oneself in bed a mere matter of hours later, a sad commuter between lack of desire and fatigue.
Umm, excuse me? Dont you remember saving Cain in Diablo 2? Tristram.... destroyed.
Destroyed doesn't mean "dissolved off the face of the earth". It means it was given over to ruination. So ruins would likely still exist. Like the town itself- when we visited, it was in ruins, but it was physically still there.
Besides, New Tristram was built near the ruins of old Tristram and the Cathedral. It said that explicitly in the new lore.
Sorry if I'm missing some crucial part of the discussion here, I kind of just read that and was perplexed.
Edit--
Wait a minute, I'm checking out the lore again to make sure I've got it straight.

New Tristram has been in existence for several years, though the exact date of its founding is unclear. Originally simply a collection of merchants looking to profit on adventurers and travelers drawn by legends of riches within the old cathedral, it slowly set down roots and became an established town. As soon as the cathedral was looted bare, however, the adventurers and travelers stopped coming, and New Tristram found itself in decline. The town is now comprised mostly of depressing shacks; the inn is the only building that looks even the least bit habitable.

Thats impossible. The old church was destroyed by the wanderer. The new Tristram church is less than a decade old.
Yeah, I don't see any mention there of a new churchl being built, either, Murderface. There wouldn't really be any need to, anyway, since the Cathedral was founded by King Leoric and he's long gone, and the New Tristram was founded by greedy, prospective merchants, which is contrary to Zakarum teachings.
well if the butcher is coming back...i can only imagine how he will look in 3d lol. i hope they are. there bringing the skel king back. why not the most famous of d1 the butcher.

The Skeleton King was in Diablo I? You're not talking about King Leoric's skeleton that you had to fight, right?
King Leoric is the one who returns in the wizard trailer but is also killed in D1. So, I think it's irrelevant that the butcher was killed in D1. He could come back as an unded butcher. That would be sick. I hope he's the size of one of those bloated thousand pounders.
He was definitely the scariest thing in D1 and really what made me get the game when I played the demo in Media Play when it first came out. I used the same close the door tactic, but I'm kind of hoping that if he comes back he will be a little smarter and be able to open doors. How did he ever get bodies if he couldn't open doors and he was trapped in that small room anyways???
How can you think of The Butcher? He is already dead! I think Blizzard made a mistake with the returning of Leoric, he is already dead, for the second time. It's unlogical.
It's just not creative. But then, I'd like to see the Butcher again just because it feels like a reward to people who have been playing the series since the beginning.
As for the Skeleton King, there is of yet not a single article released by Blizzard stating that he is King Leoric, and he also isn't named as such, and any information regarding said topic would just be biased conjecture and rumor. Until your get some solid facts from the company, don't go being a rumor monger
I care. I spend almost 6 years of my life playing Diablo and Diablo II, I don't want to see Griswold alive because the fans like him!!!
Well why not? whats the big deal if hes resurrected or some crap? I played the game for more then 6 years and I think that if your biggest worry is that someone like the butcher or griswold coming back is gonna ruin D3 for you well youve got some issues.
It says that: " King Leoric, later known as the Black King and ultimately the Skeleton King, was the ruler of Khanduras just prior to the events of Diablo ".
They also have a section about how he is going to reappear in D3.
Although if you look at the pictures, I think it's pretty clear that he's 100x more badass.
Anyways...:offtopic:...yeah the butcher is sure to get some uber upgrades if he returns.

Watch the wizard trailer. Then go play D1 and get to leoric. Take a note of what they both say. Its obvious its leoric
OK, so why don't Blizzard bring back Andariel, Duriel, Corpsfire, The Butcher, Lachdanan, Lazarus, they were so cool?!?
The butcher is a fan favorite and well known as the first real ass kicking anyone had in the diablo games. Hence he i very popular with the fans. Im sure your gonna see all those characters you listed return as well, iif not all of them then most of them certainly
Wow, you really don't understand, that's not Super Mario to run throw the games many times and to be the same. That's Diablo, and these are different parts.
I have no idea what any of that means or what your trying to get at.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.

Its a world of fantasy. So who cares?

Is it really that hard to believe that the undead King has returned from the dead? It's kind of what they do...
I have no idea what any of that means or what your trying to get at.
I wouldn't say so for andariel, and duriel.
