Been listening to a lot of folk lately although it's not my favorite. My favorites are death and black. I just went to Paganfest though and it kicked ass. It just started so check if there any dates near by was a great show even if folk really isn't your thing. The energy is unbeatable.
This is a post i made some weeks ago on another forum, thought id just copy/paste it here as well.
Favorite band at the moment is The Contortionist.
Some of my favorite bands that have fallen lately:
- Trivium (first 2 albums are the best in my opinion)
- Parkway Drive (best hardcore band in my opinion, quite melodic for a hardcore band, last album sucked, but the first 2 have a warm place in my heart)
- All Shall Perish (Album 2 and 3 were EPIC, changing guitarist ruined them imo)
- Deadlock (last 2 albums were quite bad in my opinion though)
- Insomnium (Great band, first 3 albums are works of art)
Generally bands that i enjoy:
- Still Remains (Of Love And Lunacy is one of the best metalcore albums ever made)
- Killswitch Engage (they are the reason i started listening to metalcore, which led to death metal eventually)
- Misery Signal (A metalcore band with a very unique and distinguish sound)
- The Absence
- Anterior (Great up and coming death metal band, their first album is one of the best death metal albums i have heard the last 2 years, they have some sick solos)
- All That Remains ( Great first 3 albums, now they are but a shell of former glory in my opinion)
- Born of Osiris
- Between the buried and me
- Bring Me The Horizon (EP+ first album)
- Draconian (Arcane Rain Fell is one of my favorite albums)
- Hopesfall (very unique sound, End of An Era is a song worth checking out to get an idea how they sound)
- Iron Maiden (grew up on iron maiden in the 80s/90s)
- Megadeth (same as above)
- Pantera (same as above)
- Shoot at dawn (one of the few norwegian deathcore bands)
- Volumes (they got a bright future ahead, Intake is one of my favorite songs)
I´m more into Tech Death things like Atheist, Death, Continuo Renacer, but i enjoy all kinds of metal, latelly im listening to a lot of Spawn of possession , Necrophagist and Hyeronimous Bosch:
Defeated Sanity's "Chapters of Repugnance" is my god. Ultra brutal guttural slam death. I was going to post the front cover then realised it might get me banned.
Their drummer Lille Gruber is Jesus incarnate. Here is a video (go to 0:34) of him filling in for vocals WHILE GRAVITY BLASTING (2 x the speed of normal blasting). He can also play all their guitar parts so basically he is level 100.
Oh man my music is gonna sound weak against those brutal bands...if you want the hardest, go from I The Breather and onwards...
I'm not big into metal, but well into hardcore and post-hardcore. But I'll post my heavier music here. I've listened to Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage, all that remains and BMTH. Talking about BMTH, I agree that their new album is allot softer than their previous albums, BUT they are a metalcore band and their newest album is not metalcore...far from it. I've only listened to Suicide Season and their new album, but the ones I liked the most of SS is The Comedown, Chelsea Smile, Deatbreath, Diamonds aren't Forever (me and my roommate played this song in the hostel at full blast and just fucking went crazy!!!). These are just so fucking brutal and it's hard not to listen and not go crazy!!
PS most of these are what I'm listening to atm.
If you're into progressive metal or just progressive music in general you'll enjoy Protest the Hero. They're a prog metal band, but not something you would expect...not as heavy as your usual bands but they're my fav band. I think I've post their stuff about 5 times on 5 diff threads...lol. Their new album has little to no screaming, but their previous 2 has. Here's a song from their new album:
I think Ive died and went to ...HELL! This is what im talkin bout. I love that we can all listen to Necrophagist Death Dissection who knows what else but lately I have been enjoying a band I would recommend everyone taking a listen to which is..
AGALLOCH!
Basically sings about nature and destruction of man in clean/black vokills, with great instrumental work throughout every album.
In the Shadow of My Pale Companion... is my personal favorite

I only like thier EP and thier first album (count your blessings) to be honest.
Suicide Seasons and thier new album are in a different genre then this album sadly.
Also see my video in my last post with Lille gravity blasting while filling in for the vocalist, wtf. Sorry but I just think this drummer oozes talent, he can eat anyone in death metal.
Edit: I agree that Tomas Haake is insane, not challenging you there.
<333 One of my favorite drummers is Gene Hoglan. Man I absolutely love his drumming in Death.
Yes the guy from Quo Vadis is a freakin badass as well. I was blown away from him when I saw him. There are quite a few talented drummers out there, it would take too long to list them all
I thought it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to metal music, have a band or album to recommend? share it here
My favorite album to come out the last few years is
It combines quite a unique mix of deathcore and progressive death metal.
Here are a few of the best songs(in my opinion) on the album.

Shame BMTH went "soft" after this album, Oliver Sykes has brutal vocals for his age in that album.

I'm not a big fan of Deathcore anymore, but a few albums stand out for me, BMTH - Count your blessings, is one of those albums.
Challenge accepted.
Sure, that guy can blast at high speeds, but can he gravity blast as fast as Lille Gruber? Probably not. See 1:16 below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICwg2_XdjMk
And that track sounds very linear, just get one tempo then blast away. Can he do this fucking sexy polyrhythmic jazzy shit? See 2:40 below:
