The issue in Inferno is, now he starts spewing two clouds and they last longer, so they litterally have to tank him at the edge of a cloud so you do not get overwhelmed, as arange this fight is a tad bit easier imo, allyou gotta do is run to each corner of the room.
What class are you playing? As Barb use Overpower with Crushing Advance and he is a free kill (with a descent Life on Hit you will have about 20-30k heal per second and he does damage to himself).
If you can, make a video and post it, people would be able to give a lot more and better feedback, if not, go into as much detail about what is giving you trouble, your build and stats. Need more data to help you
there are monk vids on youtube post patch 1.0.3. Kite him around the outside of the room slowly using deadly reach and sweeping winds with fire. blinding flash to slow him on cooldown. serenity to reset stacks. it may take you some tries to get a feel for it but I am soloing him on my monk this way with middling gear (~500 resists, ~18k dps). I will say at my dps, I had to go with Mantra of Conviction and Overawe because even if you kite correctly he will enrage after around 3 or 4 mins and then there is no safe spot to be. If you have higher dps, could probably stay more defensively oriented with Mantra of Evasion and Hard Target.
I realize you are asking about a monk, but this is in the General Discussion Forum, and the thread title is simply "Ghom". So...
On DH, a killing build for him is this: (Cannot post a link since the forum won't recognize I have made more than 10 posts............................................)
Entangling Shot > Bounty Hunter
Cluster Arrow > Cluster Bombs
Caltrops > Jagged Spikes
Companion > Bat Companion
Marked for Death > Mortal Enemy
Preparation > Backup Plan (or Battle Scars, if you want an extra heal)
Passives:
Sharpshooter
Archery
Cull the Weak
Make sure you have your bat companion out, and are at full Hatred/Disc/Sharpshooter before the pull. Also, if you have a good Scoundrel or Enchantress, it'll help.
At the beginning, run right up to him. You will see he has a cloud around him and he throws a cloud at where you were standing. So run up to him, and drop a caltrop. Then, make a line of caltrops along the top of the cloud he threw at you, as you run back to the wall. Once you get to the wall, he will be coming at you along the Caltrops. Toss Mark of Death on his head, and hit him with as many Cluster Bombs as you can before he gets close, taking full advantage of your SS buff. As he gets close, you start to kite him around the room clockwise, staying as close against the edge as you can.
Keep him on the Caltrops, keep Mark of Death on him, hit him with Cluster Bombs when your Hatred fills back up (and that's why you have the Bat/that specific MoD), and kite him as slowly as possible around the outside of the room. When the little slimes come out, use your Entangling Shot on them to help keep them away/leech some health back/kill them.
I was having a hard time with Ghom, until I found a post on the EU forums that showed this strategy. After trying it, I killed him in only a couple of pulls. Once you get the mechanics down, it's just a matter of timing.
Overpower makes this fight so easy for barb. I just stand in the center and whack at him until he's dead.
Only bad thing is that overpower sucks for the trash leading up to him (revenge is 20 times better) so for barbs the hard part of the fight is getting up to him. Of course if you don't care about NV stacks then yes this fight is cake.
the monk kill linked above is pre-1.0.3. Here is one with faster spawning clouds and proper kiting using roughly the spec I mentioned (different mantra because his dps is higher and he can):
It may take you some attempts to get a feel for the pace and movement but this works very reliably once you get that sorted. You can begin to feel if you are moving to fast, when to blind to delay him, etc. This spec also works very well for the keep elite packs that come before him so you can farm elite packs and keep your stack for Ghom -- then move into keep just outside gate and farm more elites there -- fairly good act ii area with lots of packs once you sort out killing Ghom.
I've played a pretty tanky monk from start and this fight has so much down time (not in melee dpsing) from the moving around and ghom just standing there or slowing waking towards you. I had to find a diferent set of gear, far less tanky to have about 18k dps. That even prove to be quite the challenge, just after picking up faith in the light (rune from binding light) for some better burst on those parts where i can actually hit the guy, that paired with deadly reach for the extra range. I was trying not to depend to much on my build (keeping it tanky) to be able to reach him 5 NV, and only depend on gear swapping. Of course the recent blog on MF has an entry that negates this kind of strat. Just my couple cents.
