Beta is Live and Starter Edition Has Been Fixed
In case you missed it, early today people were able to login to the beta without a beta key. However, after a long maintenance today, this issue has been fixed and you once again need a beta key to play the Diablo III Beta.
Interesting Update It looks like the Diablo III Beta is now running on 'Live' Servers/Battle.net. If you have Real-ID friends on LIVE WoW, you will now be able to see and talk to them while in the beta (and they can talk and add you). However people on the PTR realms can no longer chat with people in the Diablo III Beta. This is very interesting news, and may be one of the reasons for the rather long maintenance and the odd Starter Edition issue. As well as why all information (including friends list) was removed on patch 17
Release Schedule
With the release date known, the biggest question has been when are the servers going online. Bashiok has tweeted a few times telling us they were not sure yet. However it looks like we will finally be getting some information very soon
Ok, not totally, but I think there's some distinction to be made for 'legitimate' ability to beat Inferno, in that, we expect there could be ways, potentially exploits, potentially clever but cheesy mechanics, that could maybe allow a player to complete Inferno fairly quickly. The bet stands as-is, but I think if it could be revised it would be "X time before it becomes farmable", meaning someone can legitimately kill the end boss over and over and over without needing to take advantage of an exploit, or loophole, or some other thing we don't intend to be possible.
Of course we'll try to address any such issue as quickly as possible, but it's feasible that the first Inferno clear will be through use of unintended means. Technically still valid per the wording of the bet, but I think most can agree would go against the spirit of it.
As we all anxiously await the release of Diablo III on May 15, we invite you to come enjoy one last hurrah in Diablo II as we reset the ladder the morning of May 2. We anticipate the realms could be down for up to six hours during the reset, and during that time all existing ladder characters will be converted to non-ladder. All characters and items being converted to non-ladder will remain intact, but once converted these characters will no longer have access to ladder content such as creating ladder-only rune words.
This ladder reset, like all those before it, creates a clean slate where all ladder characters begin at level 1 with no previous items to help them. To participate, simply wait until the Diablo II realms return to service on May 2, log in to Battle.net, and tick the “Ladder Character” checkbox when creating a new character. You can track ladder character leveling progress by clicking on the Ladder button from the main Diablo II in-game Battle.net interface.
Of course if you haven’t yet tried Diablo II you can find the Battle Chest at any fine PC game retail store, as well as our onlineBlizzard Store. You can alternatively purchase digital copies of Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction expansion, which you can begin downloading and playing immediately.
For more information on ladder characters please visit the Arreat Summit.
Still Supporting Diablo II
We don't have any plans to stop supporting Diablo II, including ladder resets. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
D3 on a SSD
IMO an SSD is one of the best upgrades (bang for the buck) you can make for your system as a whole. In most cases though your HDD is not a bottleneck for games outside of the initial loading screen/s. If you want a machine that runs faster, an SSD can be a huge improvement. If you don't care about anything but game performance, there may be other components to focus on first. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Real ID
Your D3 Beta friends list will not generate until you friends come online on other games. When the retail version of the game is live, it will automatically pull this data from your friends list, but since this is still a Beta, there are a few issues. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Twitter Can you explain the "Unattuned Runes" mixed with the "new" UI in the Monk's inventory during his trailer?
It's old footage. (Source)
Hero of the Day
With each class reveal comes a chance to create a class sigil. Not only do you get an exclusive in-game sigil for participating, you also have the chance to be the Hero of the Day, winning a SteelSeries gaming mouse pad signed by the Blizzard team.
The latest Hero of the Day contest winners are in! Each day, based on your votes, we select a new Mark of Valor submission to become the Hero of the Day, and we're ready to reveal the champions for the demon hunter and barbarian.
This week's hero is the monk. To unlock your exclusive in-game class sigil and earn the chance to win a SteelSeries gaming mouse pad signed by the Diablo III development team (shown below), travel to the Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise promotional site and create your customized banner today!
Week Two: Barbarian
Week One: Demon Hunter
Curse Weekly Roundup
This week, we have a bunch of Curse exclusive coverage of PAX-East. Check it out.
Where are all of you people who called me and many others retarded for saying we could clear Inferno in 2 weeks? Even your famed Bashiok and Blizzard are trying to take their comments back.
Obvious statement about Inferno is obvious. World firsts of pretty much any kind ALWAYS involve some sort of unintended exploit or "clever use of game mechanics". This is why I don't play competitive games online (at least not taken seriously). The real game is always who can break the code the most w/o getting in trouble (a lot easier when you're an anonymous presence on the internet). First to level cap, first all achievements earned, first inferno diablo kill...all of it will involved some extremely broken ability, exploit, etc basically something Blizzard will end up patching quickly. This ALWAYS happens. Any scrupulous player never has a chance at these sort of things. It's disgusting and it's why I only may take competitive things seriously when I play with just friends.

To be fair I'm sure he wanted to clarify that point earlier, but beating Inferno the way the devs intended their skills and mechanics to work is still on the table for them thinking it will take a long time to clear. Naturally exploiters will change the rules of the game. Really all he needed to add in previous statements about the epic difficulty were words:
", excluding exploiters."

Nah, he should of said farmable in his first response. Beating the game once is NP. Farming it convincingly is something else, what I and many others said was that we can beat it within 2 weeks, not farm it and yet we were all called retarded and ignorant ha.
Feel bad for those had a taste of beta only to have the bug fixed. If it's any consolation, there's less than a month to go until the Diablo III release.

Then they are being silly. It is possible to disagree with another person without resorting to name-calling. It's why I don't apply to be a moderator -- I'd probably be too "harsh".
I'd imagine they have to launch the NA region at the same time, if they let east coast go live at 12:01, but force those of us who went with digital via Blizzard to wait until 12:01am on west coast, people would cancel their digital orders.

Depends on your definition of "NP". Cheating? Or not riding on the coattails of broken code. If people can beat it w/o Blizzard saying anything was used that they have to patch to fix because it was broken within a few weeks, then yes, Bashiok and Blizzard failed at their claim, otherwise, no. I won't give credit to cheaters.
The interesting thing is that I hear people say "play the game it was intended" vs mod threads but will also say that it's not the player's responsibility to play the game as intended when it comes to issues like this. Naturally it's the same hypocrites who would resort to cheating to make the game easier.

Well first off, it isn't the players responsibility to play the game as "intended". If the developer can't create a game that is fun and insightful to play it as "intended" then that is on them.
Also I won't need any glitches or hacks or exploits to win. It is very simple, 3 barbarians and a monk should and will be able to steam roll all of the content. I have no doubt in my mind of that.
