IMPORTANT NOTE: A lot of people are saying that they got into the Diablo 3 Beta today (along with others getting into MoP). It does not hurt to take a peek at your battle.net account and look. We will update if there is any official word on said wave. Update: ( Bashiok Tweeted Take that for what you will )
Diablo 3 Calculator Was Returned to Patch 13 Values

Diablo 3 Character/Profile API "Planned" For Later This Year.
Though we had a good idea that it was coming, Straton over on the World of Warcraft forums confirmed that the Diablo 3 API is planned to be ready later this year. Though he can not confirm everything the API will give us, he did say it will include information on hero profile data ! This comes as great news for people wanting to make fun web apps that would require an API from Blizzard! We will sure to have a few fun things made with this API for the community when the time comes.
I can confirm that there will be a d3 API, but can't confirm what it will contain or when it will be released. Without going into too much detail, we plan on making hero profile data available later this year.

Artwork from the Book of Cain
Jean-Baptise Monge, an artist used to help create the beautiful illustrations in the Book of Cain shared a couple of his sketches that he did for the book. There is some great concept art and a look behind the final products. You can check out blog here.
sweet...hopefully when they notice what people can do with the information we provide they will be less stingy and let us do UI mods!
some people complain about WoW's, and we mod it...everyone's happy! for some reason blizzard did not give us this option for D3 and boy, oh, boy are there not a lot of fans for the new skill UI
For basic terms, its a way for us to get data from diablo 3, such as Character information/level/achievements Maybe what banners you have..ect Basically all the info that would be on a character armory, we would have access to in order to make our own web apps and websites...ect

Nah, not at all. Unless you program and deal with that stuff you have no reason to know what a API is. TBH A lot of the people that Know what it is, dont even know what it stands for, just not important =P

This is awesome. I just set up a new linux hard drive specifically to tinker with a new website. I suppose a D3 website would be a fun place to start. Although they haven't announced when the API will be up or any fine details about it, but I'm hopeful that it will be enough to create something interesting.
Does this mean there will be UI mods in the future?
This is just my personal opinion, but I'd be surprised if Blizzard allowed any game addons for Diablo III. I have a feeling they'll just keep the API restricted to website stuff.

It just doesn't make any sense. Why allow it for WoW but not for D3?
Update - Skill calculator is getting some changes, check out the topic (it looks like its gone back to patch 13)
Update - Add Colors and Icons to your Diablo 3 Chat ingame!
