I have played and completed diablo 2 once before but in single player mode. So Im not completely new at it
But I still feel like a huge noob at it. I would like to get into it through nightmare and try hell
What I dont understand is all the builds people post and stuff. How do people level up? Do they level up and put all their points and skills in at the end? or after a certain level? Or do it as they go? I want to level the legit way not some dude carrying me
I will be starting from scratch so, should I play online or singleplayer? I mainly want to do this myself, not some guy rushing me all the way through because then whats the point of playing otherwise?
Now Ive seen some stuff on youtube regarding beginners. Say I make a sorceress and make her a magic find character, Can I find armor for say a 2nd character and give him those items?
I would really appreciate any advice and sorry for these silly questions
I give my items to other characters by creating a game online with password droping the item(s) on the ground quickly logging out and logging back in with the character I wanted to give the items to back into the same game as the other. The game stays open for a short amount of time so make it fast. Its never closed on me before I can get back in, but don't do it too many times and your account with become restricted.

That's about it. Play singleplayer, don't bother with MF characters just make something that can be powerful without gear, such as a caster, and you'll be fine. Oh and get PlugY.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

So you suggest play singleplayer? What if down the track I want to play with friends or something? I cant use that character to play online.. Which was making me lean towards playing on battle.net and also can I use this plugy you linked in battle.net?
Anyway I started a singplayer sorcerer, lets see how I go, still not sure weather to make her an MF character or just go powerful. That mod is pretty cool to!
This is another nub question, where the hell is the town portal spell? I cant even find it, I thought these sorcerer's where meant to have one in her skill tree and have a free town portal once learned

Oh I'm sorry, I thought you were playing singleplayer from reading your first post. In case you want to play on B.net then no, PlugY will not work there.

Nope. No character has a town portal spell in D2, that's in D1.

If you play online & play ladder, you'll have all content, drops, and runewords available to you, so I suggest you do that. The ladder was reset somewhat recently, so you'll have plenty of time to level and get the ladder specific stuff you want.
You can move items between characters, but without a second account it's difficult and risky. As Gotan said, though didn't quite explain completely, if you start a game with a password & hang out in it for about 5 minutes, the game will persist for a minute even if no one is in it, which can give you the time to swap to another character & get back into the game & pick up any items you left lying on the ground for yourself. The risk is that you might randomly be disconnected from B.net, or if you join/create games too quickly & too often you'll be automatically banned from B.net temporarily. Either way you lose your stuff. Don't try transferring items in public games, by the way. That's a lot riskier. Usually they'll fill up in the time it takes you to swap to your next character.
Don't worry too much about your build right away. Just put points in anything that sounds interesting at first so you can try things out & see what you like. Once you have more experience with a build or class and know what you want, you can have Akara reset your stats/skill points. Even if you use up all three of those, it's possible to reset them via special items that drop from the three Prime Evils (Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal).
