Build Guide
Hey boyz!
In my opinion/experience this build is currently the strongest possible monk setup for pushing the highest SOLO GR on a monk!
This build is trash for T10-13 Speed farming, for a speed build check: http://www.diablofans.com/builds/82237-ltk-monk-t11-13-speed
Please note: I always keep my diablo fans guides up to date and will be making adjustments to the guide whenever there is a shift in meta! so be sure to check back, and vote on the guide!
Basic game-play strategy:
- Dash every 4-6 seconds for the R6 Damage buff
- Cyclone every 5 seconds for 50% damage reduction (Pull monsters to templars Oculus Ring circles)
- Use Breath of Heaven on cooldown (when in combat)
- Use Epiphany on cooldown vs any dangerous monsters (almost everything)
- Hold down Crippling Wave
Important tips:
- You want to have +Max Spirit (secondary) on both weapons & paragon!
- You want to have secondary resist everywhere possible, or else your Harmony won't do anything!
- This build is very squishy, and you need to dodge almost every avoidable "BIG" hit.
Skill variations:
- Dashing Strike - Radiance (for slightly more dmg output but HUGE eHP loss)
- Inner Sanctuary - Temple of Protection (replace MoS - Need heavy CDR, Good for Epiphany downtime)
- WoHF - Fists of Fury (replace Mangle - Holy damage setup, Slightly worse IMO)
Legendary Gem variations:
- N/A
Kanai's cube variations:
- Lefebvre's Soliloquy - Subpar setup (if you have good Depth Diggers & Bad Lefebvre's Soliloquy!)
Hellfire Passive/Alternative setups:
- Near death experience (for HC players)
FAQ:
Q: Why do i die all the time?
A: Harmony optimisation needs to very good, and this build is inherently squishy.

Why no Exalted Soul passive? Beacon of Ytar is useless.
You lose tons of damage by not using Exalted soul passive. Survivabilty comes from fishing rifts. You can get firechain and arcane elites and i dont see how more cool down from epiphany can save you.
Great Guide!
Hey Quin,
Solid information - been using the R6 Generator Monk since testing it myself on the PTR. I was using WoTHF: FoF and have found CW: Mangle to be more reliable...so thanks for the insight there. As for speed-farming, some alterations could be made to make it perform reasonably well for farming purposes. Are there faster builds? Sure...but for people who don't care to carry several different sets of gear and/or farm for "optimal" gear to then again farm...one could make some minor tweaks:
-Swap Lefebvre's Soliloquy for Mantle of Upside Down Sinners...freeing up RoRG for a Band of the Rue Chambers in the cube
-Swap STI passive for Exalted Soul for 50 additional spirit and minor regeneration increase to compete with drain from Shen-Long's
-Swap Mantra of Salvation: Agility for either Mantra of Healing: Circular Breathing or Mantra of Conviction: Annihilation
-Swap Spirit Guards for Nemesis/Warzechain Bracers (depending on preference)
-Swap Dashing Strike: Radiance/Blinding Speed for WoTFS (for speed bursts)
I am finding that it performs decent enough to do farming runs @ T10 - T12 on my monk (T12 seems to be the "sweet spot" as it is too slow at T13) - although I could definitely could go faster with a different build or my EB Wizard (which I generally do my farming on). Anyway, thanks for the information as the alteration from WoTHF: FoF to CW: Mangle is indeed an improvement.
All you hear about this build is how squishy it is. HERE'S WHY- Get rid of AD! sub it with a defensive stat such as vit or AR. In reality, there is only a 20% chance that AD actions. Ok, you are thinking 'yeah, but 20% is huge!'. In Blizzards world, it is NOT. Just think about how many times it takes you to upgrade a gem at 60% probability. Now, divide thise chances by a third. Keep in mind that your PL points already have 50% AD, so adding the cost of an additional 60% (tops) is not worth losing the defensive stats. I have tested AD with several builds over the last two patches, and always went with the decision to buff defense which got me a lot further in GR's, as you cannot advance if you are dead. Survival is key!
So I have an utter noob question, why use Unity? Am I supposed to put the other ring on my follower?
Yes, plus the unique follower token that grants the passive ability :Your follower cannot die. Thus they will take 50% of your damage for you and you will take none of their damage (the passive prevents them from taking any damage).
As I thought then, thanks for clearing it up!
Nice build
Would there be a lightning based variation of this that anyone could recommend?
yes
lol ok....what skill variations?
After you get the gems too 25 which one should you focus on first?
Caranten, thank you for your insight on this. I was having a lot of trouble surviving the big hits and losing an incredible amount of time in rifts due to deaths. I swapped the passive you mentioned and just cleared a rift in half-time with zero deaths. Thank you very much for the comment.
Nice.
hi, i tried this build and modified it a little to add toughness. I swapped mantra of salvation for serenity, and used gem moratorium for bane of the trapped.
I'm a hard core player and don't have ideal gear yet but I made a few tweaks until my gear gets better:
1. Use Sixth Sense instead of Harmony if you don't have 4-5 pieces gear with the same secondary resist.
2. Since I don't have a Traveller's Pledge and even when I get one they are hard to get good rolls I'm using Hellfire + F&R.
-The Focus and Restraint provide a good damage boost.
-The Hellfire lets me add Near Death Experience.
Would it be possible to make a physical one instead of fire or even ice?
