Just Hit 70? Having trouble getting into higher Torment?

Get started with your wizard in the new season.

Following this guide will get you going on T1-T6 rifts and caches in short measure.

Build around whatever items you may find first.

Crafted items and set bonuses are pivotal in getting you into T6 to begin farming.

RoRG is the only required item. It drops from Act 1 cache rewards.

Use RoRG to build as many sets as possible with your current gear. Use the sets below as a guide.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sets and Set Bonuses
  • Blackthorne's Set - Preferred Bonus. Protection and damage can't be passed up. Avoid some hurtful monster affixes at 4 set bonus.
  • Aughild's Set - Preferred bonus. To many benefits to ignore.
  • Tal Rasha's Set - Preferred Bonus. Two piece only, for Meteors. Pieces recommended: Source, Amulet, Hands, Legs.
  • Asheara's Set - Optional Set. Boosts defense. 4 piece bonus is interesting option, but not preferred. Would cause the loss of another set bonus.
  • Captain Crimson's Set - Optional Set. CDR and RCR combination is good for this build. Belt, Pants, or Boots.
  • Cain's Set - Optional Set. IAS and Magic find. Helm, Gloves, Pants, or Boots.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Build Variation 1
  • Variation 1 involves little to no CDR requirement. Use the Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac to make up for not having CDR assigned.
  • With this setup, you'll be able to use Black Hole and Frost Nova to CC much more often without sacrificing as much gear or passives to CDR.

Build Variation 2
  • Variation 2 involves the use of CDR to lower the cooldown on Black Hole (Event Horizon) and Frost Nova (Cold Snap).
  • You must be able to cast these at least once every 8 seconds to activate the Tal Rasha Meteors efficiently.
  • These Meteors will fall often and destroy most anything in their path, especially when enhanced with % Meteor Damage.

  • A CDR of at least 33.34% is recommended. Use the formula below to calculate your CDR:

Formula:

1-(1-A)(1-B)(1-C)(1-D).....)

  • Where A, B, C, and D are the CDR values for each piece of Gear, Set bonus or passive that you have.
  • Values are percentage values noted as a portion of 1 (so, 20% = .2).
  • CDR is applied after any flat skill reductions, so for example, the Oculus gives a flat deduction of 4s from 11s teleport. The CDR value from the formula would be applied to the remaining 7s.
  • The passive Evocation can be used to help attain the CDR required.
  • The Captain Crimson's optional Set is recommended.

  • The Nagelring is a great ring to get you into lesser torment and up through T6.
  • The Fallen Lunatics explode in at least a 10 yard radius for about 10,000% weapon damage, so this ring scales as your gear improves.
  • Stone of Jordan or Wyrdward are also good options.
  • Proc chance for Wyrdward is based on proc coefficient. So stun chance is multiplied by the 20% coefficient of Arcane torrent (Static Discharge).

Build Variation 3
  • Broken Promises allows you to drop all CHC affixes from your gear. If equipping this ring, you want as low as possible CHC (5%).
  • This ring scales with attack speed. Increasing attack speed increases the chance of it activating. This causes more buff uptime, and emulates having a higher CHC.
  • Try to gain enough Attack Speed for at least 1.8 APS. The more the better though. Use a fast attack speed weapon to match.
  • The Cain's optional Set is recommended.
  • Legendary gems Pain Enhancer or Gogok of Swiftness should be considered.

  • If you have 2 piece Tal's, try to fit in some level of CDR to better match Tal's Meteor activation timings. At least 20% CDR is good to have.
  • Assign where defensive affixes are common, such as shoulders, or Diamond in helm.

Build Variation 4
  • Rogar's Huge Stone is used in conjunction with Boots of Disregard or Molten Wildebeest's Gizzard.
  • This boost in defense allows you to place more offensive affixes on gear, such as ED, CHC, CHD, INT, or Attack Speed.
  • Consider Glass Cannon as a passive.
  • CDR of at least 20% is recommended to better match 2 piece Tal Rasha's.
  • Assign where defensive affixes are common, such as shoulders, or Diamond in helm.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't have any of the rings mentioned? Consider Build Variation 1 (without CDR) or Build Variation 2 and use whatever extra ring you have on hand.

Offensive Affixes
  • Go for ED=CHD, CHC, and INT in that general order.
  • IAS can be used to supplement damage, and is required for build variation 3. Static Discharge attack speed breakpoints apply.
  • Get %Arcane Torrent Skill Damage on Helm, Boots, and Source.
  • Try to get Lightning ED on Helm, Amulet, Bracer, and Belt.
  • A good affix for shoulders is Area Damage.
  • A good affix for chest is Reduced Damage from Elites or Attack Speed.

Defensive Affixes
  • Armor and All Resist should be prioritized and added in equal balance. However, Life Regen/Life on Hit, Stamina, and %Life can be beneficial as well and should not be ignored. I try to aim for at least 275k life to survive some of the harder hits. 350k+ would allow for more flexibility though.

Build Guide

Using this build you can easily get from T1 up into T6 to start farming gear.

Link to Build Used in Video. Build Variation 1 as listed above. Used Blackthorne's, Aughild's and Tal Rasha's 2 and 3 piece set bonuses.

------------------------------------------

As far as I know this build was orignally put forth by user Malakai. His adventures in Greater rifts with this build in patch 2.1.2 are noted here. Check out his youtube channel here for other build suggestions.

The link to the original 2.1.2 build I have included below. Linked the old video, by Ravolos, to that build.

This build should get you 10 to 12 minute, fairly steady T6 clears. This is not a speed T6 build, but for casual play it is fairly engaging.

------------------------------------------

Crowd Control

This build is all about control. Keeping enemies stunned, scrambled and frozen is the name of the game. These are the abilities you use to keep enemies in check:

Rotate your CC between these abilities. This will allow you to stun lock more consistently, or escape if the need arises.

Fighting Elites
  • Use Black Hole (Event Horizon) as your main weapon against elite affixes and projectiles. It sucks up anything nearby and will allow you to survive some of the worst of attacks from elites.
Tal Rasha Bonus

If you are using the Tal Rasha's 2 piece Meteor bonus:

Suggested Passives for Fourth Slot
