Reading that D3 will have a Money-Based AH literally makes me sick to my stomach. Someone that starts the game 6 months late, but has $100 to blow, will suddenly be more geared than me (who will have started on day one). Or some lazy-fat kid is going to be better geared than me because he mommy will buy him everything. You might say "well you can buy items too" -- no! Fuck that, I refuse to by virtual items. I will also refuse to sell virtual items for real money. I will refuse to play with anyone that spends real money on items. Thanks Blizzard for this absolutely stupid new system. And wow, yeah, lets just let complete noobs buy a character. Fucking brilliant Blizzard (I hate you). You might have just turned me into a SWTOR fan... or maybe Guild Wars 2.
Get over it. I don't see why you care if someone gets better gear than you as soon as he joins compared to your 6 months of farming. It sounds to me like you didn't enjoy your 6 months of farming so you dislike the guy who bought your exact items as soon as he joins.
Your hatred will pass or just don't play a game you won't enjoy playing.
All in All: Don't worry about someone else, worry about you.

I get your attitude, but what you just said is akin to, " get over it son, your brother got a new bike for being a good boy, you just had to get one by actually working for 6 months."
Today was the first time I read diablo 3 news and actually thought: I might not play this game at all, this game isn't for me.
1. The little PvP that was in just got completely destroyed for me.
I didn't ask for:
- super balance (because I understand this is a PvE game first and foremost and PvP is just a side order)
- special gear for PvP players
- blizzcon diablo 3 arena tournament
- special achivements
- to be able to actually see my MMR
the ONLY thing I asked for was some sort of ladder system (like Starcraft 2) so that I can try to become "better" and reach a higher league. Now when that is thrown out of the window I see no reason at all for me to purchase this game actually.
2. To see Blizzard take the step with the real money auction house made me sad. WoW has 3rd party systems selling characters, that doesn't mean Blizzard should implement one. If they want to do micro transactions they could find other ways of doing it. This is only leeching on the community, specially players that play maybe more than they should to try and earn a dollar or two.
Today was the worst day in d3 and underwhealmed is and dissapointed is the only thing I feel
this so god damn much
this, right here(shitty ass casual pvp), is why I'm contemlating not playing D3

If that's how he feels then he's just going to have to cry for a little bit.
@Diisfunk: Really? I had no idea there was multiplayer. Hmm I thought battlenet was made for me to create a account to play with offline.
Now that we know Blizzard is willing to basically sell their own items for $, it stands to reason that Blizzard will capitalize on this idea even further. I can see Blizzard employees setting up multiple auctions of legendary quality, thus driving down the value of similar items for the people finding them legit. I mean why wouldn't Blizzard do that? It only makes sense, seeing as how they're using this system for profit in the first place.
/conspiracy off
That said, I'm still looking forward to this new system. If for no other reason than times are tough and I'm willing to put in extra time (time aside from what would normally be spent for the sole enjoyment of the game) to make a small amount of cash. I'd just like to think we're not being thrown into a stacked-deck system that least benefits the people who would use 100% legit means of collecting items for the purpose of selling.
Set my alarm for 3am, goes off at 5:15am, makes sense?
Anyway, HAPPY INFOZ!!
For those of you disappointed with the currency based AH, realize that Blizzard only created this feature because a large about of the player based wanted it, and shows that through their actions. A huge percentage of people used sketchy third party sites to buy items, and often ended up getting scammed. There was also a lot of personal information leaks, corrupt site leaders, and unreliable serves just to name a few troubles. These third party sites could also raise prices as much as they wanted claiming superior delivery than one another, or non-duped items which more often than not turned out to be false. Point being if players didn't use these methods to acquire items, Blizzard would have not created a currency AH.
Since the reality is it's here to stay, look on the bright side! There are a lot of great things that will come from this!
- Blizzard will not be selling items in the AH: There will not be a never ending supply of bot farmed items as there was with third party sites. Nor will Blizzard create items to sell over the AH. *Also with the revenue Blizzard will make from this, I'd say it's safe to assume a lot of it will go to maintaining the game. Be it patches, cheat detection, expansions, and more.
- No more, or very little of third party site purchases: Since the community will determine the value to items, it'll likely be much cheaper to buy items in the currency AH than via untrustworthy third party sites.
- You don't have to spend money!: The street goes both ways, if you choose to use the currency AH you can sell items to make money, than use that money to buy items. Optimally you become both a producer and a consumer to break even. Hell look at America right now, we're in the hole because all we do is consume.. Don't be like us..
- The player base will determine market prices!: At first I'm pretty sure prices will be pretty random as players figure out what they're willing to accept, and pay for certain items. After some time has passed the economy will stabilize and item values will be pretty general, changing for variable stats obviously. Point being though it's up to us, not some greedy botting third party site managers who will make the prices.
I could keep listing good things about the currency AH, but I suggest you read through the entire FAQ, for it lists pretty much everything you need to know to put your mind at ease. As Don did, I also raged for a few minutes. Mostly because I didn't read through everything before forming my opinion. After I had, I realized if Blizzard didn't do this, even without bots, third party sites would have still managed to find and sell items through straight farming. I'm sure these sites will still try, but I doubt they'll be able to compete with the convince of the in-game AH.
Will there still be players who buy a leveled character, buy the best gear, and don't work at all for their experience? Sure, this would happen anyway through their party sites! Sadly this is something that will happen to matter what. I'd bet though it wouldn't be cheap, and that the percentage of people who do this will be very, very small.
All and all I'm really looking forward to this feature, and feel that if used smartly it will not only not require any money input, but could potentially produce some profit, be it e-balance for Blizzard stuff, or some cash you can say you got from pwning at D3! Cheer up guys, sit back and give it some thought after reading the FAQ, I bet it'll begin to grow on your.

It's mind-boggling to me that people are raging hard about the PvP announcements so far. If we use Diablo 2 as the bar for PvP so far, it still sounds completely to me like Diablo 3 will be better in every way.
Was Diablo 2 balanced for PvP? No
Did Diablo 2 have a ladder system? No
Did Diablo 2 have any stat tracking for PvP? No
Was there a convienent way to duel in PvP in Diablo 2? No
Why are people acting like Blizzard is ruining something which was never good in the first place? From the sound of things, PvP in Diablo 3 will be quite similar to PvP in Diablo 2 except there will actually be a level of support outside of needing to duel people outside of the town, worrying about monsters and shit getting in the way.
I didn't see anything mention in the notes about the naming system for diablo 3? will it be the same as Starcraft with a real ID and a name for your character?.
I'm sure this is another topic in which many people are interested in.
PEOPLE LISTEN, BASHIOK SAID: You can't use funds sent to the PAYPAL(third party) to buy more items. I'd hazard a guess that people will want to keep some amount in the Battle.net balance toward purchasing future items, and if there's some extra left over cash that out. MEANING: EVEN IF YOU HAVE $4324324 dollars in your paypal, you can't use that in DIABLO 3! the dollars you make in-game you can use to purchase... GET IT ? THUMBS UP! BLIZZARD WON'T SELL GOLD OR ITEMS! Source: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=27822632343&sid=3000&pageNo=1#17
Yes it will work exactly like in SC2. Anyone can name themselves legolas, but each plater can only have one character with the same name. So there can be 10,000 legolas, but no one can have two characters named legolas.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

So I pretty much agree with everything Winged just said.
I'm actually really starting to like the AH now. At first, I wasn't too hot on it, but now it seems so properly convenient for me because I know I'll want to buy gems and stuff (preferably through the gold AH). I'll probably never buy extremely rares because, aside from their boosts, I don't see the benefit in having them except to flaunt them as trophies. I'm not that kind of gamer to begin with and I'm quite content with just buying gems and shit.
But I'm really starting to like the idea of the AH. Shit, I might even sell items so I can buy the expansions in the future.

I hope you didn't play Diablo 2 then. Lazy-fat rich kid could buy more gear in D2 as well, just by blowing $100 at D2JSP or diablolegit or blahblahblah. Lazy-fat rich kid can buy items in ANY MMO OR ONLINE RPG EVER MADE.
Unless, of course, you use a rags to riches approach.
Let's say you sell some item for $5 (a unique or something) and, in turn, you buy like 3 level 6 emeralds or something. Then you sell those each at $4 a piece and end up with $12 (before transaction fees).
My friend does the same thing with his guitar equipment. He trades his stuff for stuff of a higher caliber, basically climbing up gear ranks through non-monetary transaction.
EDIT: If you want to succeed in the auction house, the first key is to have stuff that people actually want to buy. That will force players to actually play the game up until level 60 to get stuff that will garner a lot of money. Once they sell that, they, in turn, can purchase better gear or turn their profit into actual money.
If you actually read the interview, Jay Wilson said that they were thinking about putting a level restriction on the RMT AH (at level 10, I think). Nobody will be able to just buy gear upon entering the game; they actually have to dedicate some time to be able to use the RMT AH.

Won't the Auction House, INDIRECTLY, force players to accept and use REAL MONEY trading on a daily basis, if they have ANY aspiration to achieve any higher level gear, gems, runes, and such?
You realize you never have to put actual money in the system? You can sell some of your own items for cash each week (with no listing fees), and use that to buy other items.
Seeing as human beings are generally greedy, who WOULDN'T wanna sell their stuff for real money?
Why would you EVER auction off something for non-real money, if the real money was the option?
Because you need in-game gold to play the game (artisans, gold sinks, etc.)?
There will be an exchange rate between gold and $ (just like in WoW. What kind of idiot would turn real $ into fake gold? Oh, right- people who play the game). Let's say 1000 gold = $1. I can sell my item for 5000 gold or $5. Its the SAME THING. The exchange rate will be based on the demand for gold versus the demand for $.

I bet your the "fat-lazy kid" and that's why you are defending Blizzard. They implemented the Real Money Action House because they are to lazy to do anything about sites like d2jsp. Why don't they just take those sites down and fix the problem instead of putting a band-aid on it? Sites will still be selling items whether they implement the RMAH or not. But with Blizzard putting in the RMAH they are just giving-in to the minority. They are saying it ok to sell items and characters now... which is flat out stupid. In-game wealth/status/power should only be earned in-game, not with dollar bills. Period.
Why don't they just take those sites down and fix the problem
I'm pretty sure you cannot name ONE SINGLE GAME where the developers were able to shut down RMT.
Its just like Prohibition or the War on Drugs. It doesn't work. All it does is make the whole thing full of criminal activities and fraud. When alcohol was illegal people still bought it, they just had to deal with toxic chemicals and rampant criminal activities. Just like with drugs today.
The same way, when RMT is illegal it leads to more and more scammers, hackers and criminals. People just go to shady 3rd party websites, get hacked and everyone has to deal with bots spamming the chat channels constantly.

I think the only difference is you can only pick three passives, and like skills they don't require points anymore.
