Since the beginning of the Diablo series, mankind has always fought against Heaven and Hell for their survival. Neither the Heavens nor Hell want humans to exist. However, in both Diablo I and Diablo II we only fight against the forces that come from Hell. The only experiences we have with Heaven in the game is Tyreal and Izual. Now, with the destruction of the Worldstone the Heavens are aware of our presence and most odds are that they will not be happy to see us. It only makes sense that we would have to fight both the Minions of Hell and the Angels of Heaven for the continuation of our survival.
So far, Blizzard has not revealed anything about the fight of humans against any foes from Heaven. Are we still continuing our fight against only the minions of Hell or is Blizzard going to surprise us with fights against angels?
I hope that we do get to fight some creatures from Heaven. It only makes sense that they want us dead just as much as the minions from Hell, so why wouldn't we fight them?

I would say yes simply because we haven't yet and it would be a refreshing change from the last two games. We're talking in addition to Hell here, right?
I like this idea. I was wondering if there might be some sort of plot twist revolving around Tyrael/Heaven. 'Cause there was some speculation as to what Tyrael's intentions or motivations really are...Good or evil? I think it would be cool to have to face both fronts. Good topic!

How much fun would it be to have demons, angels and humans all fighting at once. Some of the demons would pick off the angels while some of the angels would smite the demons. The whole time you are fighting off both groups as well. That would make for some epic fights and add some change to the game with npc's fighting both you and other npc's at the same time.

Well, the Sin War books really go into how two-faced the factions of heaven are. So, since that is official lore I say, why not? It would be interesting to see how they pull it off though if we do. I bet they will drop a bombshell on us at the end of D3 to leave heaven for the expansion.
"Battle the unholy forces of the Burning Hells with all-new character classes such as the otherworldly Witch Doctor, or with re-imagined warriors from Diablo's past, like the powerful Barbarian."
I think this could dash our hopes of fighting the residents of Heaven. I know it doesn't say ONLY or EXCLUSIVELY in regards to the forces of the Burning Hells, but it still sounds to me like we'll be fighting the same undead and demon baddies. HOWEVER!!! Like Dunhac pointed out, there's always the possibility of fighting them in the expansion. I'm really hoping for some sort of plot twist that leaves me dying to play the expansion...It would be nuts to end it with your hero killing diablo (bad guys from hell), again, only to find out Heaven has been playing us like pawns, and now they're done with the pawn.....But what's this? The pawn is no longer a lowly weakling, he/she is a powerful HERO! Now fighting against the corrupt/selfish forces of Heaven for the survival of humanity!!!!! DUn DUn DUN!!!

I'm saying that it would feel wrong on a human emotional level. Not from a story perspective. We fight zombies, aliens and demons (and not puppies, kittens and bunnies) in games for a reason. It is easy to make a story for evil kittens but it would just not be as awesome as fighting headcrabs
True. But, if they end it with the Angels making some dick move. "well the humans have defeated diablo, we don't need them anymore. Let's off em."
I would be more than happy to kill me some angels.

I'm dead certain we'll be fighting at least one angel in this game. Whether that be a pissed Imperius or a host of angels I don't know though.
I would cite the "angels are good, Blizzard don't want to advertise a game with evil angels in it", but considering other games put out nowadays, I don't see that as any hindrance.
Though the focus will undoubtedly remain on killing demons.

I can't imagine a scary angel :/
Are you kidding?
I'm thinking there's actually a pretty good onset of the angels being scary. Imagine a dark room, or temple chamber/whatever. Then out of nowhere you have eight of those tentacle wings grabbing you and ripping you to shreds...
Or rather, that could happen to a stalwart companion. After which you fight the battle
Plus, add horrifying voice to that hooded face and they can get pretty bad-ass.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
My image of the angels in sanctuary are of holier-than-thou creatures devoid of any motions. So it would make perfect sense if they decided that once D is dead, it's time to off the mankind.
yeah, and that would fit with the story, why did tyrael destroid worldstone?? to let heaven enter sanctuary and destroy humans!!
but as we haven't seen any artwork about it I think there's not a lot of chance that we would fight angels...
I hope we do. I want to put Imperius in his place....lol

I 100% agree with emil Even if the story telling that, the meaning of "angels" and "heaven" are good (why blizzard use those word to scraped the definition?) For me heaven will try as much as possible to dodge a war, not doing it.
I want fight against pure evil.
The game is not called "Diablo" for nothing...
(angels can be horrify, I remember in lord of the ring, the elf queen seem to be good but we see what she can be with the ring, trully evil :P)
Anyways.. I don't want fight angels (good side for many peoples) and it's not everyones who read the whole story of Diablo.
Well, having a supremely powerful being like an angel in battle could be a very epic thing to witness. I mean, just think of pure zealous, brilliant power consuming the battlefield as you step forward to challenge beings that have never been killed... To me that seems very powerful.
Why do the angels have to be evil for us to fight them. Humans are am embarassment to the Angels and they want us dead. I don't care how "good" they are, we are going to fight for our survival.

Condsidering the small amount of lore I've read on Imperius, yeah I would want to kick his feathered butt.
me too.
But what i find unique about the diablo lore is that no one is perfect, especially not the angels we are fighting for in D1 and D2. Tyreal initially wanted to wipe out humanity, and that Imperius bro wanted to as well, probably still does. I think if Blizzard could somehow include angels into the gameplay to a larger degree than they did previously it would make for a sick story.

Battle not with monsters lest you become one.
