someone asked about the gem on another post but i couldn't reply there. well it has been a few years since i played d2 but didn't the gem randomly place a gem shrine somewhere if you activated it and started a game?

I was kidding. Nobody knows. But I think everyone wishes it DID do SOMETHING.

You couldn't respond because it is not on this forum. You were browsing the blue-post collector.

Okay heres the truth. The Gem Activated thing does: absolutely nothing (except change colours). its just there to get players, such as you, to use their imagination and come up with your own ideas of what you think the gem acctually does- keeping you interested and creating more forum topics

Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could
If you click it enough it says perfect gem activated. Ive heard people say that it makes a cow moo if you click it enough tiems as well, although I ahvent heard the cows before and Ive spent a good time clicking that little button. But I know for a fact about the perfect gem activation thing, Ive had that happen a few times although I turn it off as soon as I get it because usually it happens to me when Im clicking the gem repeatedly and before I realize it says perfect gem activated Ive already deactivated it.
Yeah, it doesn't make any sound, it just displays the messages in the chat window. The "Moooooo" message doesn't display anymore- it was in some lengthy, detailed observation of the item of interest in the diablo2.net forums, I think. Or some site like that, I read it a few months ago.
I'm wondering if maybe the gem and SoH might become something more with this final content patch. Well, it may not be the final, but it probably is. It would be interesting to see what happens with the two.

I doubt it, because I think 'What else could they do with those two items to enhance Diablo 2?' I honestly think if they don't tie in something (if they do put it in the final patch) with Soh and gem (like they did with wirts leg and cows) that is already relevent, then they wouldn't do it in the first place.
Well, I was thinking *maybe* something spoiler-wise for Diablo III. I don't know how this new Diablo team works or thinks, so I didn't want to rule out the possibility. Dunno : /

I do kind of miss Blizzard North. But I laughed heartily when Blizz said they dissolved north because they had come up with a shitty D3 too early.
Did they ever use spoilers like that in any other games? Not counting cows
They used... I want to say Kashya?... In Diablo II NonXP to forshadow incidents in Diablo II: LoD and the Assassin class. I'm not able to recall it in any of their other games, though.

I think the gem is just an easter egg; I'm surprised no one thought of the Soh as just a trophy.

Regardless, the gem remains an enigma
