The problem with an IPS is the noticeable "ghosting" I don't midn but some really picky people will. I don't know if you're one of those people. Everyone also agrees an IPS is universally the most accurate and best at reproducing colors. the other problem is price, geez! these things can range from 400-1 grand and up. It's so much. So instead i'm opting for a 24 inch benq that's 3d vision ready so i can game in 3d when i get my GTX 680. overall though go for a 27 unless you want these perks like IPS or 3d. 27's have more screen room, but keep the quality of pixels very good at the size.
There's a common misconception about Screens. People assume that the bigger the screen the better it will look. Actually the opposite will happen. Because the screen is bigger you'll have to sit farther away so your eyes won't notice the separate pixels as much. So by buying that 60 inch and sitting ~6 feet away you'll have the same exact viewing experience as having a 24 inch ~1 foot away. What matters is Pixel count(Resolution) and Aspect ratio believe it or not. A lot of people think 1920x1200 is better than 1080p simply for those extra pixels, but in actuality the aspect ratio is significantly more important for gaming. A 16:10 (1920x1200) ratio actually does more harm than a 16:9(1080p,720p, etc...). The 16:10 will actually show less than the 16:9 screen so it's not necessarily the size, or the pixel count or the aspect ratio alone, but rather they should all be working in unison to give you the best picture available.

Enty is right about the aspect ratio. All modern games, D3 included, are optimized for 16:9; anything else and it'll cut off the sides of the view to make up the difference, putting you at a tactical disadvantage. For monitors, this means your best options are 2560x1440, 1920x1080 (aka 1080p), 1600x900, 1366x768, and 1280x720 (aka 720p).
1080p monitors are very common these days, so I think you can find one in your price range.
IMO, 24" in the absolute max for a screen res of 1920x1080. All 27" screens with that res look like total crap, and it's why you can buy them for like $275. If you want bigger, do it properly and spend the money for a screen with 2560x1440, but don't bother if you don't have the graphics power to push that res.
it depends on how far away you sit. If your desk is small, then the monitor may be too big and make it hard to see the entire screen in one glance. bigger is not always better.

Define "crap" as my 27" looks absolutely terrific. And I was with a 23" for 3 years before that.
I find 27'' to be the sweet spot for sitting directly in front of something. Anything bigger than that and you'll want to start moving away from the screen. 23'' will still feel pretty big when you're sitting in front of it, but yeah totally go with 27.

Not entirely. 27's will still keep 1080p looking good. Obviously it'll be much better at 2560x1440 but not everyone has the money to blow on a 1k 27 inch IPS monitor. 32 inches is where you need to start moving away from the screen at 1080p to make sure it looks good.
Another thing I forgot to mention is height adjustment. Man is this so overlooked. Make sure your eyes are level with the top bezel, whether they're level at the top of the bezel midway, or bottom it doesn't matter. It's so much easier looking down upon a 23 or 27 inch than looking up at a 60. I've tried so many damn times to game efficiently on my 60 inch downstairs and I can't do it. It's so much more straining to look up than look down. So keep that in mind as well. If you have a high desk already maybe 27 inches isn't the best Idea, and If you're less than a foot away that also counts too the bigger the screen the farther you have to sit remember this.

I must just be far pickier than the average joe. If you sit around 4 feet from your screen I can see the benefit, but I really think 27" screen should be 2560x1440 res. If you don't notice the difference, that's cool, enjoy your screen how you like it.
