Legendary gems have become more of a hassle then anything recently, when I get on to play Diablo in the evening, i want to just jump in and play, however when I get in the game I remember. The character i'm on doesn't have any Leg Gems, Why? Because they're on my other character, so now I have to get on that character to get them, and the hardest part is when i get on that character, Remembering what gems it is I need.
Why can't Leg Gems be account wide? I know its annoying enough they take up space in your bank, make a Leg Gem storage bag or something. Would save me a'lot of time and allow me to actually get the most out of the game. I really enjoy the game and the time I get on it I'd rather be spent playing and not sorting.
Get more Leg gems and level them up? I never take a gem out of a piece of gear that I am using already. Leveling up a new gem is almost effortless since I am doing Grifts anyway. That's like saying they should change how gear itself works because you want to share gear with your characters. That's a YOU problem not a game problem. If I want more than one set of the same thing I go and get it.
Gems are items, it would have to apply to all "items". Not sure its worth the trouble of them redoing the who inv system to shared because you cant remember
Yeah this is really annoying to me. I play all characters so I'm constantly having to move gems around. I say they should just make the rank account wide on the gems, so if you need another one you can get another one. You cant wear more than one at a time anyways, so this wouldn't change any kind of balancing issue.
As far as leveling up duplicates, yeah I've thought about this but all the main gems that I use are lv 50-52 so it would be quite a hassle to level up duplicates that high.
If you want another one, get another one. If you don't, don't.
I kind of agree with RasAlgethi (I also play multiple classes, all but wizard, and for some of them I have two chars - T6 and GR45+). It's not so much a "hassle" as just a really annoying trade-off; I can easily get lots and lots of gems to 40 for all classes, but on the other hand I could also rather invest in the low upgrade percentage for my 50+ gems.
I feel that this game has made a turn again to be really bad for people who like to play multiple classes. With 15% non-smart loot and account-wide paragon Blizzard made first steps to allowing us to switch classes without too many drawbacks. The newly introduced gems, along with all the new useful legendaries but only one additional stash de-incentivize multi-class play again. I'm not saying that OPs request is my #1 concern right now - absolutely not - but it is a legit concern, imho, and simply "play another game" does not do the discussion justice, I think.
They would have to make a new inventory slot or gem gui for account wide gems. At a certain point you will have plenty of equally lvld gems already equipped since your upgrade chance will eventually be 1%. It makes it worth doing lower grifts when you mess up on the trial.
I got a 43 bane of trapped on the dh and a 42 on the jade. Just give it some time, it actually gives you something to do if your not pushing progression.
I agree. They should also make a special tab that all gear goes into so I don't have to switch characters to get a piece of gear that I need on another one. Its so much of a hassle to spend 30 seconds switching characters to get the items/gems I need from another character.
Yeah, uh, I just take all of them off and stash them. I do that with my Templar too. They generally stay on my main, and I won't remove gems from my main when logging off, but if I want to play an alt, it's easy enough to pop on the main, take all the gems off, and dump gems/templar gear into a tab.
I think a good solution would be to allow access to the inventory of characters you are not currently playing, doesn't have to be their whole inventory just the equipped items. It's not just leg gems I swap back and forth but jewellery and weapons etc. I would like to see an interface that works similarly to the follower inventory, basically right click on your avatar picture thingy in the top left corner of the screen, select view profile, select the character you want to swap gear with, and that character profile opens up showing their equipped gear (exactly as it does now). Then you open your active inventory and drag and drop gear from your alt to your current inventory or from your inventory to the equipment slots on your alt exactly as you currently do with your follower. This would save a lot of time jumping in and out of games to swap gear and gems when you want to change classes or builds (also allow you to throw stuff on mules faster to keep your stash from overflowing).
It's not meant as play another, or get another game. It's play another character, get another gem.
If you want that character, and I assume you want to play that character, then it shouldn't be a big issue to level up a separate gem(s) for it.
I see that if you're just collecting toons and dressing them up this is an inconvenience, but if you actually play them, this isn't much of an issue at all. At worst, "oh crap. I forgot to put that somewhere else so I can get another one". I've done it. Not that big of a deal. The point isn't just to play everything at max level, there has to be some "get it to max level" somewhere first.

Why is it you play?
