For the past several days I've been farming a certain area in Act 4 Inferno to where I was getting 1k+ dps items frequently. I've started hearing lately that the drops were removed. I also have noticed I haven't received any 1k+ dps drops either like I used to. I have multiple friends IRL that haven't had anymore 1k+ dps items drop for about 2 days now.
As I thought more and more about "why would they remove it" I started having some sort of clue as to why. Basically, I believe the AH will ruin the lifespan of Diablo 3 and I will discuss why down below.
So, why would Blizzard remove these items? Well, to make this somewhat short, I say it is because of the involvement of real money. I have my suspicions to believe that Blizzard removed these because they THEMSELVES will throw these items on the RMAH to make 100% instead of that 15% from the players selling it. They took notice of all those players getting those 1400 dps xbows and such and removed them from dropping. They said nothing at all. Which makes me really nervous, by the way.
Now, someone could argue that there is a flaw with my idea. That person could say "Well, why wouldn't they just create "unique" sets of each of those items to where they have 1800+ dps and sell it?" My response to that is it could be possible that they didn't want to break the difficulty of the game and PvP with those ridiculously high dps items.
The fact that Blizzard could easily do something like this and not say anything is scary for the lifespan of Diablo 3. Companies have done this before; creating stores to allow players to buy power in the games with the use of real money. Blizzard would know better than to make it obvious. But, what is stopping them from completely dominating the RMAH by making those legendary/sets have a .001% chance of drop and they throw them on there to make that 100%? It literally would take no effort at all.
I hate to be a conspiracy keanu but these are my thoughts. And I would like to hear input from you guys about such. I personally think the AH will ruin this game's lifespan. D2 will outlive D3 by far, in terms of the amount of people who play. Diablo 3 is based around the AH and it has an effect on the drops. The reason people play games like Diablo is because of the farming and the satisfaction of finding better loot/rares. Just buying things from the AH isn't fun.
Unless I'm mistaken, there were ways of buying power in D2. How many years has that lasted? 10 give or take?
You could buy any item that you wanted if you had the money to pay for it (just like in D3)
It would be hard for them to keep a lid on something like this, and the potential backlash would be frightening for them. From an ethics standpoint, they would lose their ass if someone blew the whistle.
I think they're well aware that people won't play if drops are nerfed into the dirt. If people don't play, Blizzard doesn't make money from the 15% surcharge.
I've heard others mention this theory on the Bnet forums. To put it bluntly, it's too obvious.
AH won't kill Diablo. Diablo 3's shitty easy leveling and PvM that is a horrible end game will kill Diablo. Monsters became easy in Diablo 2 if you had good gear and some skill, in Diablo 3 skill means very little and gear means everything, to top that off, you are playing just to kill or find an item, there is no other reason. You are already maxed level, for the people who don't give a shit about MF this makes their end game pointless and useless.
Kind of surprised they went this route, especially in today's gaming community. Where people jump and flock to the newest thing at a drop of a dime, you would think they would give you an incentive to keep playing other then "Good luck finding gear". In short...PvP needs to get here like 3 weeks ago.

Oh come on, you can't be serious. How many employees does Blizzard have? If even a tiny fraction of them were in on it that's still a large number of people to keep quiet. Even with NDAs you have to expect that eventually somebody would risk the legal action and blow the whistle anyway, knowing that Blizzard would be in so much shit with the gaming community (and possibly even regulators in some countries due to the real-money aspect of this game) that they likely wouldn't have any resources left to go after the whistle-blower.
They have everything to lose and comparatively little to gain. Stop looking for super-secret-oh-my-god-I-can't-believe-it conspiracies where there are none. Use common sense.
