I have preordered the CE edition of Diablo III at my local Gamestop, however they said to me they will not have a midnight release so I will have to wait until the stupid store opens up on May 15th at 10am.
I contacted Blizz support and asked them if I ordered the digital game online and started playing at release time, and by the time I went to get my CE from the store and put in my CE code into my account, they would fully refund my money for the digital copy instead of giving me a new D3 Key code. (They said yes they would)
However, they stated they did not know if this would effect my games save points and items etc as they have not encountered it yet if they were to refund me the money for the digital download even if I had a CE code in terms.
So my main question is , should I get the digital download , play all night long and then in the morning when I get my CE box and put it in, and risk my progress until they refund my monies from the digital download or just wait til I get my CE the morning ?
If money is your sole problem, in a week it won't matter if you waited an extra 10 hours to start playing. I would just wait.
Now if you've got some extra dough to blow, Do what I did; I ordered the CE and got the annual pass (for whatever twisted reason I want my WoW account always active). So I can play on release and then input my code later.
Now while there's a 'chance' it could happen, I don't think what you plan to do will delete your characters or progress. It's saved server side, and I would expect that if they delete your SE license (by refunding your money and taking it off your account) it won't affect the saved file and it would be as if you have just canceled your sub to WoW. I could be wrong, but I think you'll be fine.

I don't play MMO's so cannot say I have a WOW subscription hehe, anyways thanks for the input
Most Gamestops are doing a midnight launch, because Max Payne 3 comes out the same day which is helping some of the smaller stores to have a midnight release. In my smallish town they are having one because of this if not they wouldn't have because they didn't get enough D3 pre-orders WTH!!
If you really want the CE goodies I would wait, no sense in buying both. The systems may not be stable till Tuesday morning anyway, won't be missing that much.
Although it could be ready to go at 3 am but dunno....
Just wait it out, in the grand scheme of things the handful of hours from midnight release aren't going to matter. More likely than not, they're going to be filled with lots of crashing/buggy servers. Wait till the daytime hours if you can, when most people won't be online.
Wait it out-- one of them being system compatibility.
I had beta access, and despite the crysis2bf3witcher2skyrimjobmax specs of my pc, there were some performance issues that the community and blizzard itself triangulated the game client being responsible for. While Blizzard has said several times that the retail client has resolved the issues my rig suffered from and more, I would hate to register a $120 CE and have it unplayable. In the meantime you can get a sense for how similar rigs respond to the retail version.
My CE will make it to the doorstep by the 17th-- in the meantime I plan on finding out as much compatibility/bug info as possible.
One thing that might save you money as well is buying a digital copy to test-- if one has too much trouble to justify registering their CE key, I'm confident a mint CE will have resale value-- maybe more than enough to cover the cost of the digital copy-- might be a risky move if you need to be austere, though.
Don't get me wrong, if Blizzard is true to form: I will drive that soulstone into my skull in a futile attempt to contain the evil epicism that is Diablo III

Just unsure what to do.
Input would be appreciated

don't need to be rude dude, was just asking a question
I live in a big city, its just that the specific gamestop I preordered at, didnt have enough preorders to warrant a midnight release.
