Jay Wilson said they didn't want players to loot every craps on the floor, but still, I couldn't find a way to avoid picking stuff when I click on the ground to move or attack enemies...
No one mentioned that while the game was in beta?
For example, there's an option on Path of Exile to force pickup when you press alt, instead of picking up everything.
Hasn't been an issue for me but my girlfriend fills her inventory in minutes. She's a click-spammer. It sounds like someone is trying to write War & Peace in Morse code whenever she's playing...

I end up filling my inventory with garbage...
Some one on the official forum asked if it would be possible to get an option to not pick up white/grey items and a blue said he would forward the idea to the devs or something along those lines.
@Glitterpony: heh, old school gamer? I see...
but yeah, most of the time, it happens when I switch skills (right click then left click) or when I move after a fight.
@Nuvian: yeah, a simple way to fix that would be to have to hold Alt to pick up stuff, that's how PoE do it when you enable the setting.
I hope they do something about it...
Wasn't there a bluepost not so long ago saying they are planning to implement the /nopickup command?
In d2 /nopickup made you able to pick stuff only when holding alt down.
That will only be available at inferno difficulty or if u buy the collector edition of the game.
Kidding aside, there was a mention of it, i wrote about it a few posts up.
@RaidenFreeman: yeah maybe... I play LoL but you have to right click to move. It seems safer to left click in D3 (to not use a skill which may use some ressource).
@Reisori: ah you're right, I think I read something like that aswell. Currently, it doesn't work though.

This made me rofl.
Anyways, I suppose its just the type of player? I never pick up garbage, but it doesn't seem to be an issue with me, I think it's fine how it is.
@Barrier - You can right click items from the player/stash to the stash/player. As far as making them drop on the ground.. never tried it..

Heh. Having the exact same situation with my girlfriend, she klicks like crazy, even when she only walks.
Me too, GF is the same. Introduced her to the game a few days ago, after 5min: Bébé, you don't need to click that much. Don't gather all gray and white things too. You can hold click to spam an attack, no need to click like a crazy person. You are full, throw away some white and grays... yes this one too (gray items)... don't care if it looks good.
And the best one of the evening was:
ME: "You can now teleport to town by will, just click this blue icon"
Her: "The blue vagina ?"
@moomoo: Path of Exile has the right solution. Press Alt to enable picking items when you hover them and click on them.
@ScyberDragon: it's less a pain in the ass because most of the time you already press Alt after a fight to see what the enemies dropped (I was testing the "show items for 10s" setting). So, instead of picking random crap on the ground, you would press Alt if there's something interesting and pick up what you want (or nothing if there's just crap). It could be nice aswell to show automatically stats when you hover them, instead to have to press CTRL.
The game is one month away from release and there's still basic stuff like that not in the game. I wasn't in the beta but I wonder if other people reported these stuff...
It's more like a MOBA-thing. In both DotA and LoL you must click the freakin hell out of your mouse to last hit properly.
I don't get it, why shouldn't we get all the crap on the floor? I'll pick up everything and port back to sell it. I'm such a cheap garbage collector at games... I'd rather risk dying than spend a pot!
Because white items sell for far less than the average gold drop, and even further less than a single blue item. In one beta playthrough I made 10k without selling a single item. You could fill your inventory with whites/grays and then sell them all for the same vale as one blue of the same level. There's literally no reason to bother taking the time to interact with them in any way except to drop them when you accidentally pick them up.

Not to be a douche, but you just have to learn to aim your mouse. Sure an option to disable the ability to pickup white or grey items or whatever items you choose would be nice, but at the moment it's not a huge problem.
Yeah I click a lot when just walking from RTS games but I think my time with Diablo paired with my FPS precision clicking skills might have made it almost second nature for me to easily click (or not click) whatever I want. I literally only accidentally pick up an unintended item once every few SK runs.

It almost describes our own in-house (game related) converasations exactly....
