I posted a video in my advertising thread about a bug a viewer of mine found where monsters don't seem to drop loot when they are killed by the environment. I wanted to post a separate thread since it's regarding a beta bug and a lot of players in beta won't be looking at videos, I assume.
Basically I wanted to ask anyone else in beta if you've seen this issue. I couldn't get conclusive proof as sometimes the monsters will drop gold, but I've not seen any actual items drop.
If this is true, it's kind of a "meh" feature, since people would probably avoid using it at all when seeing rares/champions.
Pretty much this. I want to see a Blizzard response as to whether or not this is just RNG or an actual feature. If it's a feature, I for one will be ignoring environmental damage as much as possible.
This must be a bug. Has it been posted on the official forums?
He said he'd post a thread about it, looking for a Blizzard response. Haven't seen it yet, though. Could have missed it.
Maybe we can get a link so we can bump it? I'm interested in an official reply on this.
I'm expecting this to be a bug especially after they went through the trouble of giving us achievements and xp rewards for trying to get as many monsters killed by the environment at once. What's interesting is I have seen some monsters attack the destructible walls and kill themselves before I got to them, it's kind of funny when it happens.
I did put my post on the official forums in the Bug Report section. I'm trying to pull up the link now while I'm at work...
My thread has been moved to the "Beta Feedback" forum, this leads me to believe this is expected behavior. Those who run with Magic Find, you may want to kill quickly and avoid hitting the wall supports.
I'm curious to see what they have to say about this. Wouldn't be surprised if it still turns out to be a bug. Besides, what's the logical difference between a barbarian throwing a corpse or tossing a bookshelf? Even logically I find this hard to defend as a good gameplay decision.
That first set of mobs in the cathedral is a poor test. They hardly ever drop anything to begin with.
It was a control group, I then went on to kill other groups in the dungeon. I also had links to another video that showed no loot dropping from other mobs as well. I will admit it's a VERY low sample size, but I can't recall having gotten loot from monsters that died by a wall crashing down on them. This is mainly why I asked here to see if others had noticed the same thing.

Drop rate it VERY low either way.
We shouldn't be punished for using the environment creatively.
