With all the time and lore that there is for the diablo series, I truly hope they do a few things in diablo 4. I really hope they bring every demon/monster from the first game through the third game back, that they decide to take the gothic horror approach, and darken the game again, you know when light radius was useful. I feel like light radius could be really pushed in the design of the game, give the game more options for example: I'e seen a lot of people talking about the nephalem becoming the next huge boss, if so give your character choices i the game for the nephalem, decide whether you want to make choices in the light, therefore you earn more light radius in the hells as you battle through, or succumb to darkness, where you lose sight, (not sure on the visual effect yet for that but im sure they could think of something) Choose to be strong enough in the light to overcome the darkness, while im sure many players will choose the dark side(haha) and become corrupt. What if the "Act bosses" or demons for instance andariel, had a legion of players that fought by her with the darkness, of course at a set level? in path of exile, you see this. someone chooses to kill a certain npc and some save, they have to fight one another. and whoever wins fights whatever angel or demon is locked to that act to progress? idk just thoughts. make the game dark again, bring back light radius, bring back all mobs old and new, for the love of god please bring back skillpoints, so everything isnt based on weapon damage. Bring back baal, because that dude kicked serious ass, also mephisto, and the original diablo, not the god awful thing in diablo 3. Maybe set the games location in a purgatory between heaven and hell, where tristram is truly restored with pepin, cain, griswold etc, and let us delve into the cathedral again, into the dark woods, and into some new twisted places, instead of an "end game boss", why not something like an old school bos mod in d2? or the uber level? Fuck facing one hard demon, when you can fight them all, give us 8 players to a game or make the game open world, and let us fight them all. Or forget everything ive said and take the hellgate london approach, the game needed work but they were headed in the right direction with it, Make diablo 4 what diablo is truly to so many, stop building colorful worlds with WOW style art and vibrance. give us our twisted evil world with total war on heaven/hell and give us the choice, to defend the light or destroy it.
Diablo at its core has always been an ARPG dungeon crawler with heavy emphasis on item hunt. It would be a risk to deviate from that original model, but the culture surrounding those kinds of games has changed. I'm hoping to see a nice heavy ARPG element with that item hunt still present, but I really want set items and legendaries to change, I want runestones, and more build customization, I want to explore more zones and meet new characters and get good character development, and I want a creepier atmosphere.
Act V Reaper of Souls was heads and tails above the vanilla game in terms of characters, exploration, writing, and spookiness, and even the new zones were really interesting and creepy. It felt more like an M rated game. I want more time to explore and flesh out zones with things to do (questing perhaps?) I don't want an MMO, but I'd like a similar kind of experience, only with single player. I guess a bit like the Witcher, tho that would lose the top-down look of a dungeon crawler.
I'd love to see less quest driven dialogue that beats us over the head with telling us where to go so much that we could go through the motions asleep. Having to think for even 5 seconds about where we are, what we're looking for, and where we should be going would be an improvement. Diablo 2 never had a blinking yellow circle on the minimap telling you exactly where you needed to go. D3 was a little too linear with leading you through campaign by the nose. Also bosses were always too easy, normal mode was too easy. I think there was too much emphasis on making the game too accessible for new players. People aren't stupid, they can learn new things without it being dumbed down.
I'd be incredibly disappointed if the nephalem became an evil character, and I'd also be incredibly disappointed if everything was retconned. I LIKE the characters, I LIKE my characters, and I want them to do well. Making us choose between good and evil sounds lame tbh, because it's always been a game about maintaining the balance and fighting the minions of Hell. I don't want the characters I've grown to like to be forgotten, I just want them to be written better. I want the game to get a great lore treatment like so many of the diablo novels did.
This got a little long lol, but I'm very passionate about the characters and world, and I want to see more of it, and to see it handled well.
Edit: I personally don't much care for PVP, but I want it to be added to the game because I know a lot of people missed that. Also I think D3 still has a lot of cool end-game content that should stay, but some that needs heavy revision.
I absolutely agree with the game going back to a darker atmosphere again. I think reaper of souls was more diablo than the whole base game of diablo 3. I also really liked the event every new year to be able to go back and play through diablo 1's story. Hellgate London i believe could have truly been more like what you're describing like the witcher series almost losing the top down view, and i wished hellgate had juust been created with more of a dev team and not wandered into the p2w and sub features. I understand why with it being such a small group of diablo devs working on it, but it did had that dark atmoshpere and playing it gives me more of a feel for diablo than diablo 3. diablo 3's atmoshpere alone, really saddened me. I also agree that having the nephalem be the ultimate boss is ehh, almost lazy. I would like to see the Real diablo, not the beings that were corrupted by the soulstone, but actual diablo somehow using a vessell of his own not another humans. I would love more than anything to see mephisto and baal return also, they were imo so much more memorable than those in diablo 3. Remember back in 2008 when they released gameplay for diablo 3? when it still looked dark? a barbarian fighting a siegebreaker in a graveyard, and when you killed him portals of hell opened everywhere and out came tons of enemies? thats what ilook forward too. Runes for gear also gave diablo 2 its replayability, because being able to have other classes use skills outside of their own trees becamse more popular in most cases than their own skills. assasins using ww, almost all builds using teleport from enigma. Skill trees i believe are a better option than just everyone having the same base skill dmg but whoever has the better wapon does more damage with the skill? ehh thats not really all that great, i started seeing wizards using 2handed axes/weapons just to get the msot out of their dps when it should be skill based.Whther diablo 4 is a game based on the future or the past, i just hope they give us all of our beloved characters, and set the mood back to what diablo truly was until 3, thrilling, horror, exploration, (hopefully more so in a new game) and i hope to the heavens they do something about the launch lol.
They need to take the best of D2 and D3 and then D4 should be amazing.
D2: Best of D2 for me is Runewords (make common items useful somehow), hardcore feel of picking skills, trading a thing again, make items rare again not everyone finding rare items too easy
D3: Content was better and more entertaining...bring back rifts and grifts if they like but implement more different types of content, graphics engine is still good they can improve if they wish, bring back the OPness of chars(deff more op in D3 then D2, but to a certain extent where it is balanced fairly), make gold useful in a way like enchanting items or reforging like before but not for trading items.
General tips for D4: Balance classes better to all be overall around the same power. Dark environment, more evilness
I know im prob missing some other points but thats what i remember from the top of my head.
Have you been living under a rock? it might not be called Diablo 4 but a new Diablo game is being announced @ Blizzcon 2018... 100% sure.
Where is Diablo 4 panel sir ? I can see 1 panel of 45 minute Diablo what's next . Last Diablo panel What's next was in 2014 was ROS release date of 1 Hour. 45 minutes of New IA project seriously ? There will be no D4
You can never rule anything out with Blizzard, and, as I learned 6 years ago, getting too hyped for this franchise is an exercise in frustration, but, it sort of defies logic that Diablo would take center stage for just an expansion or DLC.
That said, if the expansion was really far reaching in scope and dynamics, it might be worthy of the slot, and it may just be that there is just so much less to announce for the other games.
But when you have people talking about an animated series and the panel taking the Mythic stage (after no Diablo info at all last year), and all the job postings for an unannounced Diablo project....it really just screams something new.
I would make a Prequel / D1-3 Redux (in new Engine) / Post D3 Story.
1) Why Redux ? - With the a Prequel, you can build your story around the current story Arc.
1a) With a Redux, you can enable new side quests through D1-3 that help to develop your story arc.
1b) Brings the entire story to new players.
2) As mentioned above a larger party max.
3) Better system to check builds ie. Damage/Toughness/Etc.
4) More Variability in Gems Usage - Adding Sockets to Other Equipments, that give unique modifiers specific to that armor/weapon class. ie Area Damage, Cooldown Reduction, Life per Hit.
5) As mentioned above weekly events or raids - An extension to this Idea, maybe quarterly update/patch or extension
6) Maybe to increase overall value, caps on weekly quests for specific items like "Ramaladnis Gift"
7) Better balance of skills / classes
8) Hardcore Mode Rewards - Special Rewards/Drops for Hardcore players for their "Party Bound" Drops (These can be used with non-HC chars, still seasonal based).
8a) Gives MORE incentive for people to play HARDCORE mode? Maybe a Buyback if your character dies. There is a cooldown like of 1 day, this also gives a constant revenue stream for Bilzzard
9) A better helper - I mean, I love the Skills and the Ability to upgrade your helper, but I would love the ability to full equip them?
10) More special levels or maybe even limited event areas.
11) I would like to see more difficult bosses or gameplay. I've seen 90's games with Bosses that are more challenging.
11a) Considering they made WoW and some of their bosses game play/strategy is far more challenging.
11b) Boss Run Challenge Mode
12) Quests that require certain class or builds? Add variability to each game.
13) Better NPCs - ie. Act 3 The Siege. I would like to see more NPCs that could help change the battle in your favour and vice versa with the hordes.
13a)If you kill a Elite or Champion pack, it rallies the NPCs to fight around you maybe giving a temp AoE Buff and the pack follows you till a checkpoint or till they die.
13b) Horde downs you NPC (Templar) or even a Party member (Non-NPC) it can rally the battle summoning more champions.
14) Introduce Class Vulnerabilities?
15) or Introduce subclasses or race?
16) I would love to see a reintroduction of the real market auctions, but with better checks to stop chinese farmers from spamming the market.
17) Special Bosses for Adventure mode (Not available in story mode).
18) Special Skills unlocked during Promo Seasons?? (Exclusive). Or purchasable after Season Expiry (Revenue streams)

Is Diablo 4 release confirmed?
Heard about some rumors regarding Diablo 4 dungeon designer jobs for a while back.
If so, I really hope they make it more interesting than just grinding.
Diablo 3 is pretty much just grinding all day long for items in NS/S.

Well yeah, you're right. There IS no D4, there WILL be D4 would be the exact phrasing.
There will be no D4.

I would name this new project - Diablo
In terms of Story Arc
