So remember when you got angry cause someone hacked your WoW account? It was a big pain to get your items back took a week of time etc. etc. Now, imagine what's going to happen when someone hacks your Diablo 3 account and spends all the "e money" you have in your account. All the sudden you have a grey item the hacker put up on their account for $332. Then poof, what do you do now? Anyone else somewhat worried about this problem? They could cash the real money out before Blizz has a chance or even you yourself know that it's gone.
Would be easy to track the money, since it would be controlled by the auction house. And there would be more severe legal consequences for the ones doing the stealing because it wouldn't be simply "digital" material, but real money.
Either way I would suggest using an authenticator. Makes security way better.
Use an authenticator, virus/malware/etc protection, and keep a low balance in your "e account." I've been playing MMO's since Everquest started in '99 and I've never been hacked. That said, it's inevitable this will happen, but there's a lot you can do to protect yourself. Blizzard has also said they will have a support team in place to address this issue as well.
As Je123321 said, if you get hacked it is usually your own fault. People always say, "Oh! My account got hacked!" as if they had nothing to do with it, and some very determined hacker figured out your account name and password without any help from you. I would say 99% of the time it's because you were looking at pr0n and snagged a keylogger, you made your password too easy to figure out, or you did what always got my guildies, fall for those stupid phishing e-mails. And even if you fall for something dumb like any of those, having an Authenticator will 100% prevent them from getting your account. So long story short, if you are gonna spend $60 on a game, and more money on the AH, cough up the $5 for an Authenticator and save yourself a headache.
I think I might look in to a cheap laptop for internet browsing (and to "bait" keyloggers) and then just keep my current rig for strictly playing games.

If you were super paranoid and didn't want to shell out cash for another system you could browse the interwebs in a virtual machine.
edit: Or you could just run things like Adblock plus and noscript.

Well, I've kind of wanted to get a non-gaming laptop for a while, and this might just be the straw that lights a fire under my camel's back (wait, what just happened?).
I've got a couple of prevention programs running, but I kind of expect the keyloggers/hackers to always find a way around that so it doesn't make me feel too secure, where being on a completely different computer makes the web-browsing one kind of like a quasi-australia where the keyloggers and hackers can run wild without doing too much harm (not that i wouldn't be running prevention on it, but that I always expect it to fail).

Read up on what people said.
It's entirely possible to not have that much protection and never get hacked, most of the time the reason people get hacked is because they simply let themselves get hacked. Always have a strong PW, always make sure you can trust the website, stuff like that. Trust me, I could have the best security in the world and still get hacked easily if I do something stupid, and you should really just get into the habit of looking out for stuff like this. By the way you're laptop can be ruined if you really want to do this, some hackers are out there to "prank" you, and their idea of "pranking" you is making your 1000 dollar computer complete and utter shit.
Also, remember that since all Auction House items are anonymous, it would be slightly less easy for them to find their item so they can buy stuff from their own account with yours in the event that you do get hacked.
On the other hand, you could just go ahead and not have an e-balance, and not save any payment information in the game.
Methinks that if you can acquire $5 from selling your items, you can suddenly afford an authenticator, and all you had to do was play more video games.
Finally, the only way that hacking of an account can succeed is if they acquire your email and password. It is possible to attach your Blizz account to an email that you'd never send from or whatever to give you a little extra protection, but if you wish to attach your primary email to the account, then get a unique password, don't store it anywhere digital if it must be stored at all. Play smarter, not harder.

This won't be an issue. They could just use a crappy item with a very specific price. How many "Super Special Sword of Hackerness" will be up there for $14.78? Stupid example but you get my point

Plus, would a hacker really complain if someone else bought their crappy overpriced item? All they will care about is the $$.

This is really all there is to be said on the subject. They (blizzard) will have a far easier time tracking compromised accounts than before, if the hacker is using the AH to offload. Barring that, there's no change from previous and an authenticator is your best bet in any case.
