Ok, I think the forum could use a topic that isn't based in controversy. Maybe a topic to help us identify with some of the community members just a bit better. Hopefully i'm dropping this in the right place.
Basically what I'm looking for is what play styles everyone prefers. I'm not talking about classes, but the way in which you prefer to play. Now, since none of us have played Diablo 3, you can use similar games as a reference. Feel free to list a class that might fit that archetype, but this isn't a discussion about classes specifically.
I think everyone probably enjoys more then one so feel free to discuss. Please let me know if there are some archetypes that I have missed.
For me I think my preference is for a character that does exceedingly well in precise attacks. Not so much about brute force damage but about getting into a mob, laying some good blows and getting back out before you take much damage. I like speed and maneuverability, paired up with a higher damage potential, at the cost of a higher average rate of damage. Obviously the way the monk seems to be panning out, that's a good fit. But I can also see the DH fitting that role to some extent too.
A close second for me is the ranged combatant, who can kill things before they are even a threat. This is especially fun if it's paired up with maneuverability, but I don't quite enjoy kiting things to get them dead. I'd rather do my best to kill them before they get in my face. I can see the wizard, witch doctor and demon hunter easily fitting those roles, depending on skills of course.
Personally I love being a "glass cannon". Fragile character that hits hard as hell. Usually reserved for some sort of elemental caster, be it a mage, sorcerer, wizard. That's usually my favorite play style big damage but keep your distance.
My second choice would be the exact opposite surprisingly enough, tanking, being right up front taking all the shots. In various games, I've played all the roles, and these two are my favorite.
The other major roles such as healer, buffer, debuffer and such, although helpful and in many games necessary, I just don't get the same feeling of directly contributing to the fight when playing in these roles, so I don't have as much fun playing them.
I like the summoner because it's far more amusing to see a large group of minions assaulting my objective than whacking it with a sword or shooting it with a bow/spell. The witch doctor will not be my first character though, unless hardcore mode is accesable without completing normal mode.
This is so freaking hard to choose...I might have to check them all
My favorie on WoW was always my feral druid or my rogue, in d2 my favorite was the necro, sorc and hammerdin (I know, I know) and in borderlands I really like being a healing soldier.
I love the summoners. Even if it's just one single minion, I feel like I'm doing something strangely elegant... like, that magic user who glass cannons is like a redneck who throws dynamite in the water to get the fish, while I'm the redneck who imported a shark to throw in the water to get the fish, and I'll just let it have it's fun because I just want to watch the chaos.
Definitely a tough question, but for me my number one is always the mobile archer. I've always loved being an archer since the dnd days of being a bow-specialized ranger.

Yes, i'm going to die a lot. =/

Melee - tank but not necessarily heavy hitter so I didn't vote. I play for the, being as tough as possible so that it takes a long time for me to die.
Magic - light the ground on fire or cover it in poison and kite. Yet oddly, not a DoT kind of person.
Ranged - I can definitely at least vote for precision and manueverbility if the light the ground on fire isn't a weapon choice.
After archer comes summoner then nuker.
