Depending on he inventory system being implemented in D3, if its anything like D2, I think it would be great if we could rotate some of the items for the purposes of inventory organization. In D2, I always got frustrated because I had unused slots in my inventory while picking up items in-game. If I had a system of turning objects, the unused single slots would get reduced. I just think it would be a neat idea to be able to turn tombs or wands sideways, especially since now that town portals will not be used as often. In D2, no body complained because they could just go straight to town. That may change in D3.
I assume this hasn't been talked about yet... (It didn't come up in the search)
Well the inventory in D3 is kind of like a cleaner tetris. There's more space, and even though items do vary in size, the largest is maybe two or three slots. So things will line up much easier. But as for your specific question, no I don't think you can rotate items, but the inventory has been improved in other ways.

Yeah... I know... but still... if you have one item on top of another, its possible depending on the size of the item, that one dinky cell maybe unused except for a ring or potion. I never liked storing potions between armor and weapons on the left side of my inventory. I tended to keep a clean stash by having all scrolls and potions on the right side. I might be a little too picky, but having that function should not be too hard to implement, I would think...
I figure with item rotation as function, it would cure my OCD-ness about inventory stash.
Yea I know what you mean, and it would be a nice feature, but based on the latest inventory we've seen it looks like we're going to have to worry a lot less about inventory tetris. Especially with the salvage and scroll of wealth features.
It's a nice idea, however I won't be disappointed if it's not in the game. Like Jackzor said, there's going to be quite a few improvements to the inventory, so this probably won't be a big deal anyways.
It'd be nice to make more efficient use of your inventory space, but I don't think rotating should be in D3. Doesn't feel like an element that needs to be in a hack-n-slash. I have the same OCD feeling with weird inventory placements; I NEEED all my charms on the far left and right sides while tomes are on the far right and other items neatly in the middle. Not sure if item rotation would exactly help.. I'd hate if I had to rotate some weapons to be horizontal while others are vertical. Still, main reason I wouldn't want it, is that I don't feel like it belongs.
with the box style items slots and the lack of potions we wont need this.

A Post Concerning The Real-Money Auction House:
"Except real money trading has always been present in Diablo 2. Except now it's going to be officially supported which will reduce scams, prevent the funding of the black market so your kids will no longer be exposed to dangerous life ruining drugs like the cancer causing marijuana."
Last time i recall seing a vid/screeny was a pack with 2 slots for the big items and 1 for everything else. and i believe there is a backpack for the quest items you acquire that is seperate
It's a neat concept, and if done right could help. Though as Jackzor said between the huge stash size, and the max of 2 slots even the biggest items will take up in the stack, idk if it'll be worth the problems with say; the images of the items flipping sideways with the slots. I think we'll do fine without such a feature.

I remember always complaining to myself about not being able to rotate items. It's a great idea to implement into D2's inventory system, not to much into D3's. Since, AFAIK, the biggest items are only 1x2 spaces big.

As others have said, it shouldn't be hard to make room being able to sell or salvage on the go. But waypoints should be more frequent than Diablo so you have a chance to stash the items you want to keep. Also inventory tetris will be a lot less annoying than D2.
