Quest items that give additional health, resistance, stat or skill points were a must for any character to develop maximum potential and survivability but will it make a come back to Diablo 3? Possibly in a different form or it may stay the same through quests but how would this work with the auto stat in place?

hopefully it will be balanced enough that it wont need such rewards to make the characters survive.
if i remember correct the quests are random generated in Diablo 3 (i might be wrong) unlike those in Diablo 2. so there cant be a certain reward for only those that are lucky to get that quest.
of course i can be mistaken and that would be the case with the side quests only. in that case such rewards could very well exists. but i'm still not sure i think i'll have to look it up lol
I hope they're all equally useful. TBH, the only ones I really cared about in Diablo II were the skill point ones and the resistance upper from Anya. I usually skipped Lam Ensem unless I just happened to go by it.

There are static quests and randomized quests. If I remember correctly, the main quest is slightly different for each character. I don't know if that just means NPC speech and rewards or quest requirements. Then there's the randomized quests with randomized rewards, requirements, etc. I do believe that not all the side quests are randomized. I feel like I read a long time ago we will have some static side quests, as well.
Yeah I think alot of quests will be randomized except for maybe main-quests.
Some side-quests could be attainable for anyone, quests that give +stat, +skill, etc... It's possible, I don't see why they wouldn't implement it.
I like the idea, in d2 was cool cuz it gave you the chance of getting stronger by other ways than just killing and killing to get Xp. I hope it makes a comeback but not just like in D2, they could make the quests even cooler and creative..
like for example, the quest could be that you gotta search, find and kill a unique monster somewhere in a dungeon or a whole region. You wouldn't have any hints except for his name. The reward could be a permanent bonus in the form of a book, scroll or potion (like d2).
I think this would be cool cuz the quests would have the same goal for everyone; Search and Destroy, but the monster and his location would be randomized. So +Replayability.

i like the idea of quests giving xp too (so its not just killing after killing). maybe a few optional puzzle quests too that award random (class) items and some xp too? wouldnt be too bad and wouldnt give those that bothered an unfair advantage didnt bother yet they'll get something too.

Even if the bonus for killing the monster is +5 hp, I'd do it all week.

That's the thing.. You wouldn't be able to redo the quest. I think it would be better that way, otherwise it'll just start a grindfest of side-quests. Or maybe you could redo them after a month or something, a little like WoW's daily quests but over a larger period of time. For sure the reward can't be the same the second, third, fourth.. tenth time you've completed it.. the prize should be less, except if the monster gets alot harder to kill.
I dunno I like this idea alot.. I can see it now..(..*fading into daydream*...)..

Not only that but I think it would give a little more gameplay(even tho it would not give to the people that only play single player), but maybe give "extra quest" in multiplayer that woulden't be in single player sorta like a "daily quest" in wow but different.(who knows maybe it would get more people on or get people that never played multiplayer to get on and maybe get even more hooked :)).

Yeah exactly man It's an easy way of making every Characters questing-journey totally different. Of course, only one kind of Bonus-Quest wouldn't be enough.. this is why I say it's a perfect opportunity for Blizz to show us their creativity. By making minigame-like quests that would take you out of the grinfest. Would bring alot of replayability, with all randomized quests being almost unique people would never get bored of the game lol. Kinda scary when you think about it... Would we ever stop playing ?
I am all for permanent rewards for quests but they need to be available to everyone (not random) and definitely not repeatable.
Well I dunno, I think it should be randomized IMO. Cuz the bonus-quests won't really have anything to do with the mainstory, except maybe on some occasions. So in my opinion, if the quests don't follow the story and are just side-quests if you will, then why not try to make every char a different experience.

I'm with ScyberDragon, it's a simple unbalance. If a player did a few more search and destroy quests his base stats will be higher then those of other players, giving him an unfair advantage.
I don't mind those kind of quests unless they are fixed. Rewards that increase base stats or give skill points should only be given at the main quests that you can't skip. (And even then I don't see the point as everybody would get them, so I simply say get rid of them.)
Making them repeatable is even worse, people will grind them and gives them an even greater advantage. Good games do not work that way, despite that you like that.
If you really want them to be random that's fine, but at the best you should be able to get a rare item drop.
Man first of all, I said if it was repeatable that you could only do it once a month.. please tell me how would people grind ? lol Also it was just an example.. Seems like you didn't really read any of the posts .. I didn't really talk about the rewards they'd give.
"I don't see the point as everybody would get them, so I simply say get rid of them."
Point would be to do quests to get rewards.. but would just get kinda boring if it was always the same quest and always the same reward, so that's where randomized quests that give randomized bonuses come in, I can't really say what kind of bonuses it could be since we don't got alot of info on how the game works yet. But yeah items are always a good reward. As for the issue about it being unbalanced, well.. yes actually, that's how games work. You get lucky or you don't. Like when items drop from a monster for example. For sure the reward can't be too good or it dbe unfair I admit, also they shouldn't be too crappy either to not disappoint the hell outta you and make you feel like you did all that for nothing.

Now you can stop disagreeing because your arguments are pretty much broken. Of course it's my opinion not to have stat rewards however it's a fact that stat rewards that are random or repeatable are just a bad idea and a huge flaw if implanted in a multiplayer game.
Yeah I admit there's flaws, there's alot of shit I didn't think through. Lol it was just an idea off the top of my head. As for the quests I believe it should go a little like this;
Example:
Total number of bonus-quests in a difficulty is 8. (hopefully there would be more) The 8 bonus-quests consist of;
1 x +Stat quest
1 x +25/Life
1 x +Skill quest
1 x +25/Mana
1 x +15%/All Resist
3 x Random unique/rare item. Other good ideas would be like you said, Sockets or the pimping of an item, like imbue. (I Know you don't like +Stat as a reward, and actually I don't even know +Stat would even be possible with the new game mechanic. But I decided to throw it in anyways.)
If in ActII you come across a bonus-quest giver, you won't ever know what quest they'll be giving out before talking to them because the quests are never in the same location or Act. Basically, you'll never do the same quests in the same parts of the world, ever. The quest itself, meaning what you gotta do, kill, retrieve, etc... would be randomized and the reward also, so if by doing a quest you get a +15% all resist bonus, you can't get another bonus of that type in that difficulty. And there wouldn't be any particular order. Pure Random baby.
I know I must be kinda annoying talking about how I want everything to be random and all.. But it's cuz it might be the most important part in making a game live long IMO. Take the locations in D2 for example, imagine if they weren't randomized.. you'd be surprised at how fast it would of became dull and boring. Trick is to keep the game fresh.
And Macros, your idea about the one week lasting buff is awesome. It's a little WoWy for some reason but hey, WoW has some cool ideas. Ideas that should be transferred to D3 but differently for sure.
Anyways damn, Ok ok I'm done.. Sorry for the wall of text.

xp boost and item from side-quests should be enough. a skill point perhaps or some possibilities to add more sockets etc (just once in a characters lifetime for every difficulty) should be nice enough for the main quests that you have to follow.
i'd prefer to go with much larger random quest pool and some quest chains the way it was in Diablo 1 (if you got the tomb of King Leoric you got Lachdanan in the end etc).
i wont get into reasoning, Airandius said it better than i would and i'll just stick to that
I don't see any reason to leave these rewards out, as long as you can't repeat the quest. It is much better to have these rewards instead of something like the Imbue from Charsi, which is completely useless unless you have crappy gear (and you rarely get something good).
Actually the imbue quest is useful for making pelts, if you're feeling lucky. But other than that you're right it's kinda useless. The idea of the reward is cool tho imo, they could still recycle the concept and upgrade it so other item qualities could also be imbued and not only the basic whites.

All I am saying is I really dont care what the reward is (aslong as it nuthing stupid) but I do know that all in time its replayablity in the long run is what you want to worry about (other than balancing). The first year year and a half of D2 I was already kinda bored and all there was to do was find out how to REALLY play D2. I want I guess you can say a refresh of things (rather I play the monk, wizard or WD ect). Like maybe once a week or once a month I can do this randy quest that will give me a better armor for like a lower class, or even they could make it they give you a random quest at like idk lvl 40 or something and give you something that you would most likely use till 50- 60 idk just little random things (AND CLASS QUEST PLEASE) not only do I want to learn more about the diablo world and whats going on but whos the barb what did he do the whole time while the 20 years where passing by, how did the WD come about in the mix how the monk got to be so powerfull idk just little story lines in between the main lore. I just dont want 6 quest in each act and call it a game (even tho I kno they wont just giving exp).

Before LoD, hell imbue was a solid way to find avarage weapons and armors, i even did imbue run to find some items, like gloves with IAS and leech.
