You get your best gear set-up and use your best skill.
Very little skill involved- no offense to PvP players out there.
But it's near impossible to compare PvP quality of diablo with games like Tekken/street fighter or any sports game out there that pits you against a human/CPU opponent.
You have combos/strategies to learn, ways to block, good reflexes and good timing.
This is what I call true (gaming) skills/PvP. Diablo just hasn't that focus in this department- which is quite understandable seeing as it was designed for PvE mostly.
And I never understood why you would want to kill other players when there are demons standing around.
I guess for some people. it must be exciting to beat another human opponent- but there are way better games for that.
For me Diablo is for PvE. If I want real PvP, I go look for the games that bring these very goods to the table.
I agree but I think we souldn't compare with d2 !! Maybe PvP organisation will be better. Anyway the primary game is PvE (exp, items) !!! you can complete the game only in PvE but you CAN'T only play PvP !!

There are alot of tecnics in D2, just like those games. If you do in pvp what you're saying (get the best gear around and psam your best skill) you will problably get heavily pwoned because you will not even hit your oponents. In diablo the speed of the character is much higer then the speed of the skills (specially with teleport) so only noobs would loose one single hit point fightning against a spammer.
Diablo really have this item "incovivience", but as i said before, it's not a matter of get the strongest item possible. MAny times a easier to find/weak item is a better choice. In the end what you must master the game's mechanic and know execly what gear fits the situation better, not just farm the best unique/rw around.
I wish people that have close to no experience in D2 stop talking non sense. Sorry if i'm being rude, but it's just that you're putting misleading and false information on the forums.
I totally understand people that don't like PvP. Its a matter of taste. But now you just said something you have no info, experience or knowledge.

Just my humble opinion after I actually tried PvP.
The thrill is more intense for me when I play Tekken. Action more direct and in your face and skill definitely in higher demand.(for me)
And from your so great experience of D2 PvP, what are these sumptuous skills you speak of? Or are you just going to mention skills and...skip over the details...
Too much of luck in there. Any half-witted fool can figure out the best way to optimize his gear for a duel. Whether he gets it or not is his problem. It then depends on who you are fighting then and trying to figure how to deal damage while either being able to take some damage yourself or simply avoid it.
What's so complicated about that? I find it boring but again I say it, it's MY CASE. Am not trying to make a case for all PvP people.
To sum it up, I'll use an analogy I used in a similar thread some time ago.
You can use a spoon to dig your garden. You can actually dig around with it but there are way better tools for that.
PvP obviously being the spoon you use in D2 for me. I don't think it is actually a feature. It's just there...and you can use it if you want it or not.
Again am not presenting anything as facts, so no need to get on your high horse claiming you actually know you are right and that I am wrong.
Also the OP asked for our views. So I gave mine.
You like PvP. I find it utterly ridiculous.

Having played Diablo PvP nonstop since Diablo 1 and playing SF and Tekken for practically ever and competeing in tournaments for SF I say you are wrong.
SF is dominated by confusing hit boxes and zone controlling, far to often do you see characters like Ryu do nothing but use a jump kick that hits in the back of the head and just low punch 100x, not much skill involved in that and that is how majority of SF matches end up using some low skill require manuver. Tekken is unrelated to Diablo as well because the game is practically block then punish and the fact that 1 kick practically does 25% life any button masher can kill anyone really.
Diablo has this going for it to seperate it and make it a damn good PvP game:
- You have to aim your whole attacks, if you cannot aim like in a FPS then you already failed at Diablo PvP
- You have soooo much freedom of movement that if you cannot dodge attacks and counter back then you have failed at Diablo PvP, this is not shown in games such as WoW or tekken or SF because you are limited in space and movement. Apart from Tekkens side stepping system which is bugged and attacks hit you often times regardless.
- You have to use the field to your advantage, If I have the lower ground I can see let's say your legs but you with the upper ground cannot see anything of me so I can easily aim my attack at you as you try to manually aim.
- Namelock, this game doesn't cater to people who can't aim really. If you can't master namelock then you fail at Diablo PvP.
- Quick pace, top tier Diablo PvP is MUCH faster then top tier SF or tekken fighting and requires good reflexes.
Those are to just name a few. Now people bring up how everyone teleports, but that just shows that you have A) Never played Diablo till 1.10+ or Never looked at PvP till 1.10+. Teleport doesn't define Diablo PvP, PvP was thriving and living way before teleport was implemented on everyone and it very easily can live again if teleport was taken out. The only type of game PvP wise that you can associate Diablo with is a FPS because Diablo holds much of what a FPS is.
maybe it doesn't define diablo pvp as an abstract concept, but it sure as hell defines it in terms of gameplay. is there any serious PvP player out there that doesn't have teleport? as i see it, that's a serious flaw, it completely ruins the game, you see two people teleporting like there's no tomorrow and, after a bit, one decides to hit the other and it's mostly over. take teleport out of PvP and it might turn back into something approaching 'fun'.
Often times Chargers /smiter's/ hammerdins don't use teleport because they use a glitch to move around the map at unseen speeds. So we remove teleport like we should of and we are back at .9 where PvP isn't damaged it is just altered and has a chance to flourish even more whereas PvM is hurt the most and if at best it just remains the same while PvP flourishes more.
Now you may just see 2 people teleporting around till they decide to hit, but what they are really doing is learning the movements of their opponent and looking for an opportunity to strike, Diablo isn't a game where you go balls to the wall and go head first into an opponent, you have to actually think, something unrelated to most PvP games.

First of all you cannot tell me I am wrong in my opinion.
Hmm...actually you can but we can just as well start an endless game calling each others opinion wrong.
But since you have quoted me, I felt I had to reply.
Can you explain to me how you proceed to illustrate SF gameplay and then come to the conclusion Tekken is unrelated?
What is PvP? I always thought it was player versus player.
Human opponent against another human opponent.
And guess what- that's what fighting games are reputed for.
So from my perspective, yes PvP diablo is related to Tekken or SF.
Ryu spamming lowpunch and jump kicks?
How about a pvp sorc spamming charged bolts or any skills that they have specialized anyway?
It's definitely spamming.
You have freedom you say? That's relative because the vastness of the field can be used to teleport your ass away (sorry for expression) unless you are in a duel between people who really want to get in on.
In which case freedom of movement is the same as in any fighting game. You manage your own space according to what you have or whatever way you want to attack or duel.
And Tekken has kicks removing 25% of your life?
The rumors run of 1-2 hit kills in duels with no potions...or maybe they are just rumors after all.
PvP diablo is worthless to me.
Combos, parrying moves/attack reversals and timing and reflex involved in Tekken gives me a far more pleasurable experience in terms of facing off against a human opponent. No button masher can beat a decent Tekken player and that for me is what skills are truly about.
But again I say it- that is me. Other people have their own experience of the game. I've talked everything from my perspective and why I don't like PvP in diablo.
You are free to disagree. Just don't go about I am wrong and you are right. I have experienced these types of gameplays before talking about them and that gives me the right to bash them however I want.
I am a customer, then a fan.

I won't comment on the SF/Tekken vs Diablo because I've never played them competitively, but when comparing CS 1.6 or CS Source(lol when I did : S without the space it made the smiley) to Diablo 2 pvp it is very very close skill wise.

So from my perspective, yes PvP diablo is related to Tekken or SF.
The skill level it takes to play Tekken at High level I feel is way lower then the skill level it requires to play SF in competetive nature or Diablo top tier PvP, because the way the game is created and the damage output along with the lack of movement it just isn't in the same range as SF and Diablo I say, you may think it is and that is fine.
Ryu spamming lowpunch and jump kicks?
How about a pvp sorc spamming charged bolts or any skills that they have specialized anyway?
If they are just randomly spamming then they won't win, simple as that. Ever hear of Spray and Pray? That's what that sorc is doing and against a real good player that won't work. In SF you can literally lock up other characters in an endless combo doing such things, that is not possible in Diablo unless you have multiple characters pinning one guy down.
Again spamming won't lead to victory, if you don't have the skill to aim your attack spamming against a good player will lead you to lose, just as a Ryu haduken spammer would lose to any skilled player. Diablo has a much larger movement area then SF has or has ever had, even the EX series loses in movement compared to Diablo. Even with side stepping which is slow and I feel has yet to be implemented correctly would fall short of what Diablo offers as movement freedom as Diablo is instant.
And Tekken has kicks removing 25% of your life?
In a fighting game where it is head to head and side stepping does little this is an issue. In Diablo damage can be that high and still work out since you have the option of dodging. Also back before they introduced synergies and made everyone do ungodly damage Diablo characters were doing much much lower damage output thus duels lasted longer, now granted character life wasn't as high as it is now it did last longer also the ability to get 75% damage reduce opposed to just not 50 increased duration, in a way Blizzard made PvP end as quick as it does now by overpowering everyone.
The rumors run of 1-2 hit kills in duels with no potions...or maybe they are just rumors after all.
Top tier PvP doesn't end in 1-2 hits it is more like 4-6, all really depends on the situation tho.
Combos, parrying moves/attack reversals and timing and reflex involved in Tekken gives me a far more pleasurable experience in terms of facing off against a human opponent. No button masher can beat a decent Tekken player and that for me is what skills are truly about.

Funny I said something along that line before about being a customer and having my opinion matter because the fact it is my money that allows them to make the game but yet I got bashed. I understand where you are coming from and that is fine, I just feel on a personal level that Tekken is beneath SF and Diablo in terms of skill level, now to say you were wrong...well I guess I shouldn't of haha.
Sadly enough it's hundreds of miles from me. Won't be until a year and a half(if am lucky) until we are reunited.
Tekken 6 in mind?
Anyway you definitely played pvp diablo much more extensively than I did and you know what you're talking. I respect that.
Still pvp diablo 2 is not for me(my taste).
But who knows...D3 maybe? Don't know how it will be...
Will have to wait. But will give it a shot at the very least.
Maybe I'll get the chance to hadoken your ass. J/K

Nice avatar now, should get the one where Racoome gives goku the finger haha.
I was thinking more for some Street fighter but whatever you got that I got would work haha. d3 Hopefully would be close to seeing the end of the tunnel by then tho.
Diablo PvP is like a chess played in lightspeed.
The micromanagement of spcae really reminds me of RTS. It's like when you use AM's Blizz in WC3 in a palce with no enemies, just to prevent then to move to that spot and decrease the terrain he can move. he will try to move to a certain place and try to do the same to you. It's a game based at see the steps of your oponent before it happens and leave your oponent without any possible moves (and this is how chess is). And everything happens in fractin of seconds so you jst don't only need to think fast, you have to think literaly instantly. And you not only need a fast brain, you need a fast hand to apply all the plans done in your head.
Choose gear is not that simple either, you're proving your inexperience in every word you say. The break points you need greatly varie between builds and oponents you face. Sometimes be in one breakpoint behind but with superior damage/hp is better, sometimes it's not. This also greatly vary based at your oponent play style (sometimes people play more agressive, showing more blind spots, allowing you to rely less in speed since you need less "turns" to surround him).
And there are other aspects like angle you have to charge in. And the bets of all is that the pvp rules and tecnics really change with every class and build. I used to play sorceress and once i tryed necro but couldn't compete.
PvP at middle level and without full overpowered items are great, dual are more fair and more fun !!! the fight during more than 1 hit
Yea low level dueling and Mid level dueling are great fun as well and a nice change of pace. I tend to make multiple characters around all sorts of levels so I can enjoy every bit of PvP. If you are not geared correctly tho and take a hit from anyone then you have a chance of dying in 1 hit regardless of level.

What you mean by "you are not geared correctly" you mean take items from a high level character and give it to your middle character, play a thousand hours to find the greatest items...
Personnally doing this destroy the real game and the real randomness of items, if we need to do that, please blizzard save us time and make drop more good, always the best...
When I win a PvP I want to say : hey I'm better, NOT yeah I've play more than him, I have no life but I win anyway !!!
What I wanna say it's I like dual when you have items found though YOUR game (at your level).

I mean if you don't have the right break points or resistance or damage reduce and you are fighting someone that does, then the odds of you getting 1 hitted are extremely high. There arn't alot of top tier low level duelers or mid level duelers tho so the odds of that happening are alot lower then in high level duels.
Typically how it goes here, select few are for PvP in this site, majority love their PvM tho, but the PvP'ers are pretty headstrong and well it makes for some interesting arguments.
PvP is NOT about items or spamming spells or camping - those that do this are noobs are die withing seconds of a duel starting - the good PvP'ers use their wits! It is as much about forward thinking as it is skill with the mouse and keyboard - just like an fps combined with a bit of rts.
...
Did i mention that it is not about items ? so please stop that argument its just pointless - as any decent pvp'er will tell ya!
ehhh I think you talk about what it should be in d3 !! because d2 is all about items and skills build...

In SF you can literally lock up other characters in an endless combo doing such things, that is not possible in Diablo unless you have multiple characters pinning one guy down.
Top tier PvP doesn't end in 1-2 hits it is more like 4-6, all really depends on the situation tho.
PS: Got a ps3?
There are good points for both sides. I hope they make pvp good for the players that like pvp.
ehhh I think you talk about what it should be in d3 !! because d2 is all about items and skills build...
