In a recent post by Bashiok on the offical diablo forums, it was revealed that PvP had been in development since the earliest stages of diablo 3 development. Blizzard also admitted to rushing diablo 2 multiplayer because of their release deadline which is why diablo 2 PvP was very...basic. That being said, this news just relieved me of my worry that diablo 3 PvP would be rather primitive. WHEW! Time to sit back and relax, and wait for Blizzcon coverage of Diablo 3! WOOOT!
well the part about it being in development from the get-go is currently in the blue tracker. the part about diablo 2 pvp being rushed was something i read a while back. couldn't tell you where.
In most games I've played, PvP was lame. Personally, I dont want it to be the main focus and the most awesome part of the game, yet I want it to be fun and exhilirating, versus lameness and boringness.
But maybe thats just me. I guess itd be fun to rampage as a barbarian in a arena or something, or just hack some wizard to smithereens.
dude, PvE in diablo is terrifically fun, but what I am really interested in is the PvP aspect. PvE will be fun because of the storyline, and playing the levels with your friends, getting loot, etc. but there's only so many times you can run the same dungeon over and over before you want a different flavor of action and that is where PvP comes in to play. having a really good PvP multiplayer for diablo 3 is going to make it epic. It will be the missing element that will blow it over the edge into perfection. plus, i hardly think that they will make PvP awesome at the expense of PvE.

Well, I hope so. They just don't see straigth as far as WoW's PvP is concerns.. but thats an MMO after all.
Don't get me wrong, though. I'm all for good PvP support, even though I don't actually do any PvP.
I remember sort of the opposite being a concern a while back; that PvP will be a really weak experience. At some point Blizzard really emphasized how they do not want PvP to be the focus of the game, and that Diablo is primarily a co-op experience.
I'm one of those person who believe that a balance can't be made in both PvP and PvE without destroying the customisation. Why ?
Because when certain character have something (like a skill or a item build) overpowered or underpowered in PvP and that things is balanced and very crucial to the class in PvE, a nerf/buff will fix PvP and creat a imbalance in PvE at the same time. So they try to balancing it through thousant of patchs until find out that it just can't be balanced, the numbers simply don't fit in that mechanic. So the only solution is banish this skill/item build from one of the areas of the game (PvP or PvE) and focus on balancing in the other area.
Thats the reason of why in WoW theres a PvP gear separated from a PvE gear and every talent tree have a predefined function (one for PvP, 2 for PvE in most cases). And this predefinition kills our precious customisation.
Thats why i think they should (instead of do what they did with wow) choose one "area" (coop pve, pvp, etc..) and balance, leaving the balance of the other areas imperfect and only fix the those very ridicolous issues.
That won't happen in Diablo. The only reason it happened in WoW was because the whole thought of PvPing in WoW is rediculous in the first place. The characters all have very different roles in WoW. Some are designed to deal damage, some are designed to survive damage.. others are designed for healing, etc. How do you balance it when classes like that, that are so different start PvPing with each other? It's just impossible to ever balance that correctly. They did a really good job trying to balance it in WoW for how far it was possible, but doing so imbalanced other parts of the game.
In Diablo, every class is a dps class. They all do the same thing. Balancing a PvP confrontation between classes with the same purpose is much easier. In fact, a large part of that simply comes down to math:

You took the words right out of my mouth. Damn you and your quick typing!
I was gonna say something around those lines, especially about D2/D3 classes being all DPS/damage dealing classes.

"Hey! Let's balance the game on the least-played portion of the game: PvP! And piss on everyone' s PvE experience!"
I thought I didn't care about this when I played WoW, but over the time I just realized how ridiculous their methods around this was.
