Eh, I'm swaying more towards first offence = perma ban.
Think about it, most players don't spam websites, the vast majority of spammers are spambots.
Thus, the only people being banned would be the spambots.
A 30 day temp ban would just be 30 days before they began spamming again.
edit: Just saw the post about report abuse, which is a pretty good point...
Blizzard's moderators would definitely have to take a more active role in the game to make it a viable way of ending spammers, perhaps Blizz could track the chat messages of a player for 5 days or so after being reported ?

I'm surprised anyone spams anymore, their is so much of it out on the Internet today most people have grown hip to it. There also isn't much money in it anymore either so it's really amazing to see as much of it as their is. Apparently though there are still just enough stooges who fall for it.
Yep, I knew a couple guys who used to frequent those websites ..
No offence to D2, ut if you're going to waste money on an item site, atleast waste your money on a recent game.

Theres not really a lot they can do. If they can barely stop it in a game like wow where people pay to play then they will do little to nothing to stop it in a game like diablo where its free to play online. The only thing that made wow gold selling less tempting lately is that farming gold yourself is very easy compared to vanilla wow where it was brutal

In WoW, they can create trial accounts and spam, if not with channels, they use Yell or whatever. Even just spamming with /say at the right place will work almost as well and for free.
If Diablo 3 does not let anyone get in battle.net without a valid, non-banned cd-key, then how can they come in and spam their crap? As long as we have a quick and easy way to report spammers, of course.
Of course, not saying it will stop them entirely, but when you can't get any sort of free access, it should slow the spam down.
WoW is already like that... see someone spamming gold, report in 2 clicks, you never see them again. But then more with random names will appear.. and this goes on forever.
I don't see why people panic so much about it. Blizzard can't stop it entirely, and yes it will affect the economy, its not a -good- thing but its not going to kill the game. People need to stop getting so paranoiac over these. "OMG MY EXPERIENCE WILL BE RUINED BY CHEATERS". The only reason its going to affect you is because you care too much. Stop it. Stop living in other people's world and just care about yourself and your experience.
Things happens around you in the game and you can't stop it. Its not going to be as out of control as D2, Blizzard is making sure of that, but a lot will still happen. Stop caring and live with it. Please. Because it won't ever stop.
Quoted for truth. God damn that felt good to read.
Agreed with spammers though, first offense should = ban, since the majority of these spammers are bots.
Why not permanently muted for a few weeks? If they do it again then the severity is increased until they're eventually banned for too many offenses. I hate spam just as much as you guys, but I don't think zero tolerance rules are the way to go.

And when part of my experience is trying to trade the stuff I found legitly for things people bought online but can't because the item I found isn't as good as the "perfect" bot farmed item, what then?
It is through bringing these things to light that we can overcome them. Prevent the cheaters and the game will work as it was intended. Let the cheaters run rampant and the legit people are always a step behind. It is common sense that they need to take this issue seriously or it will become part of every one of our gaming experiences. You included, unless you plan to never trade and play through untwinked.

Do you have any good way to stop them? No. If the game doesn't include so much random stats on items, its also one less of a problem. Its affecting you too much only because you care too much.
There is nothing you can do about it. Nothing Blizzard can do to fully stop them. All you can hope is that the game does not have so many flaws, like D2 had, that bot/farmer can take advantage of too much.

That didnt stop them in D2 so how would it stop them in D3? lol thats the same system we have now
Thats still less than WoW, which is mainly what I was talking about. Yes, D2 had that system, and if it didn't you can only imagine how worse it would be.

When I try to game with my friends on D2, it's annoying to have a block of text come up, blocking 1/4 of my screen. Then a monster comes out of it, kills me, and since I'm the tank, kills my allies.
It pisses me off when I play a game and I get craploads of spam from 3 different guys, and I can't see that 1/2 of my screen anymore. I just want to be able to play and not have to listen to the spammers. The greatest solution of all, for me, would be 2 things, one is a private game where no one can talk to you except the people in it, and two, bringing back LAN. Private for friends I don't live close to, and LAN for, well, the ones I do. If they do that, I'll be happy.

Well, again, like I said, if they can spam and fill 1/2 or even just 1/4 of your screen, then there is a problem with the chat system. Not only should it not take that much room when filled, but even if it does there should be small spam limits so one can't spam too easily. And like WoW, a simple one or 2 click way to ignore a person and report their spam to Blizzard.
Can't say anyone or myself like having spam come up, of course, and I think it shouldn't be possible (or at least you should be able to turn it off) to receive such spam from someone out of the room. All rooms should be relatively "private" and only friends can contact you in there.
I hope they implement one of those things where you need to enter a combination of numbers and letters that you see on a thumbnail, whenever you create or enter a game. It might delay things by a second, but would help against bots.
"Let the spammers roam free to annoy the entire populace of Bnet because all the players have to do is give up a few seconds of their time to block the spammer. Lets not mute/ban the spammer ourselves, because its better for each and every player to mute the spammer themselves. Better this way." With Love, Blizzard team.
...(sarcasm intended)
Really, I hope they do more to rid us of these nuisances. Any steps that can be done to hinder the transaction efficiency of gold farmers, through spam advertising etc. should be supported to the fullest.
I think some of u are missing the point. I didn't say permaban all spammers, just the damn botting spammers that spam gold/leveling etc... Although I do find people who sit and spam to make others angry for no reason i can just /ignore them.
Why I would like a permaban on these darn annoying goldfarming spamming people is that they don't see this as a game or recreation they see it as advertising. The general rule of thumb in advertising is the more people that see it the more will buy it... so they have it autoboted to join peoples games, spam a bunch of nonsense then pop out of the game.
This is very frustrating to deal with for me I am not sure about you. It's not like it happens once in a while it's ALL THE TIME!
As to the guy who said "quit whining you're just letting others ruin your experience blah blah blah" man.. grow up. In an online game others DO affect your gaming experience. I'm not complaining about one or two guys who are annoying.. those are all over. These are 100's or 1000's of spamming bots that join your games to spam, give u /tells constantly and i'd honestly like to spend more time playing than /ignoring people all day.
This is a place to discuss a problem. I see this as a problem and am here to discuss. Not get attacked by another kid whos answer for everything is "if you don't like it don't play it". That is NOT how things are accomplished. Regardless.. has anyone actually heard any information on what and/or if blizzard plans to do anything to these goldfarming spammers or not?

I would not be surprised if Blizzard does the same thing to combat bots and hacks just like they are doing in WoW. They will probably make it so you have to install a program that will watch other programs being run on your machine when you play the game. You can't exactly run a bot or hack with out some other program anyway, and once it gets detected you will be banned. As for duping, Dimebog cleared that up nicely.
