Yea, i was just look at the pic and noticed i never seen it b4, and i swear its just as bright as the sun in real life. Lookin at it kinda hurt my eyes... lol
Well judging by the cinematic they decided to go with the destroyed mountain typed setting. It appears like the light was just the sun as it's in a similar place in this picture.
I'm willing to bet that those are both early concept pictures for the cinematic movie. The cinematic design is probably what we should expect to see in the game.

That's pretty much what I was thinking.
Seems like they decided on destroyed mountain type of setting.
Edit: The bright light is the sun, it's in both pictures. So I'm guessing they just haven't decided on a worldstone cave typed place, or a fiery pit.[/quote]
Nice eye, I thought it might have been a heaven type of thing.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
So I gather that the Worldstone which guards the passage between Hell and earth is allegedly exploding as the armies gather to face the onslaught
One thing though.. didn't Tyrael already destroy the worldstone "20 years ago"?
There is the issue of .. once destroyed, how long does it take for the minions of hell to be able to come through?.. or maybe theres much more involved here.
edit: Oh and you guys confused about the different versions of the picture, This thing is from the cinematic trailer, so I think its a progression, depending on when you pause it.
edit#2: Never mind, I just watched the cinematic again and it only shows only this scene: (i took the screenshot from media player) .. notice the awesome-looking lightning strikes going on in the smoke there
this reminds me of a lot of things. one from LOTR when the orcs attack. Another when i was fighting through ACT 5 when i had those monsters to get to Shenk. And armaggeddon type feel of the last fight. either way, it seems like someone is coming from the light, maybe its a signal for a really big battle with demons vs. light

Well the mountain is the summit in which the World Stone existed, ut sincve th world stone was destroyed, I image it took out quite a bit of the mountain intself, and in the cinematic we clearly see tyreal reliving that moment when he destroys it, maybe that will explain what is going on.
It could just be still shots of cinematics in game, giving greater detail to a Diablo II story, what happened back then and all.
For some reason the look of it just makes me think cinematic. The exact artistry, it just has that cinematic feel. Looks very similar to DII cinematics, but obviously with better resolution and overall technology.

I'm not sure what's going on in that picture, honestly. Are those two guys on a castle's battlements looking down at approaching demons? Or are they inspecting human troops instead? I dunno.

If you don't have anything good to say, say it on the internet.

my guess is they didn't want to give too much away in the tailer so they changed it.
