Might be kind of hard to package them together as the only purchase option when SC2 will likely have a Teen rating and Diablo 3 will almost certainly have an M rating.

On the way back from work I was thinking about it, and I think I'm gonna try and do an in depth market analysis. I'll be back with a wall of text and pretty graphs and such
I find Alavard's point more compelling than yours tripLe. It is kind of pointless to continue talking about a package deal now. But, I find your information pointless. Buisness isn't just facts, numbers and crunches like you so desire to represent missleading information. Blizzard still operates as the same company it was with branches and still works under an unorthox mannor compared to the hit it and quit it companies. For example, when a football team is bought they don't fire every coach and player they still operate the same way, unless immediate change is required. Profits are still important. The idea is to purchase and resell, similar to relastate, similar to Blizzard. Vivendi could care less what Blizzard does or what it grosses as long as it keeps its value as a powerful gaming company so that in time it can be sold again. Stock influences the value somewhat but monopolizing an iindustry is something I think every company wants. For example, Sony TV way back in the day underpriced their TVs to a point in which they were losing money. They beat the competion greatly and pushed most American TV makers out of buisness. Its not about winning superbowls or having the best running back, but being the Redskins and having one hell of a investment. And really, if people did buy the bnet package they would only need half of the projected purchase demographic in terms of numbers which make their company look a whole lot better. We all know blizzard likes to inflate their numbers.
The whole package deal seems rediculous, although they could have it as an OPTION around christmas it might sell because peoples parents getting them the pack for xmas or whatever.
But other then that it doesn't make much sence, selling them seperately is always what they have done and it has worked.
The games should come out at least 2 months apart from one another so that the majority of sales can get out.
But if I were wanting to play SC2 I would buy it and if I wanted to play D3 I would buy it, I don't think releasing them at the same time or near each other would effect very much, the major publicity from the big release could cause sales to go up on all fronts for Blizzard.
And its not like they couldn't take the gamble and risk some money...
I will be buying both D3 and SC2 right when they come out, I dont care if it is the same day and if you want both you'd probably get both, same with WOTLK, but I'm def not getting that, the WoW series wasn't my style/thing.
What's the deal with the word Hydra? Is that a reference to the three brothers? Or the three headed demon?
Project Hydra is a term that's been thrown around and seen in some concept art involving Diablo 3. People have different ideas about what it refers to but I believe it has to do with the 3 headed demon seen in the cinematic trailer.
Wasn't Medusa a codename for Starcraft 2? If thats the case, then wouldn't it seem possible that Diablo 3 is codenamed Hydra? This may have been brought up, and I apologize if this is the case -- but it seems possible considering there were the three brothers Diablo, Mephisto and Baal...multiple hydra heads and so on. Its a shallow speculation, I know...but it seems like people are devling too far into this.

Either way, they still have an unannounced mmo being developed, that much has been confirmed.
Important things first. This is a shot from the artwork gallery. It is from a cinematic.
If you look at the top left corner, you can see the name Hydra. Bam!! There we have it. Diablo III was code named Project Hydra.
Now for the next important part.
I have reason to believe that Blizzard was ready to announce DIII sometime in the 4th quarter of 2007. And that they are much farther along than they let on.
If you look at most of the dates on all of the concept artwork that we have been shown, they pretty much all say 2007. There are a few exceptions, I believe a couple are dated in 2006.
Everything pretty much looks to be finished in this frame. In my experiences in the film industry, this looks like post production touch-ups. Post production touch ups are usually around the 80-90% completion mark. Which means that this cinematic was almost done on 08/30/07. The only thing they were adjusting was some of the lighting, effects were already finished.
So that date proves that they had a fully rendered cinematic in September of 2007. That is almost 1 full year, and I would assume they have done much much more in that period of time.
The final thing I will point out is the scene itself.
Now this scene does not appear in the Cinematic Trailer, which makes me think that the trailer we saw was just spliced together from different Cinematics from different acts. This would mean that they have at least two, possibly more, cinematics already completed. And that means, that they are no longer working on actual storyline content, but they are just finishing all the renderings for the in game.
To me, this means that Blizzard is not going to follow their 1 1/2 year rule, and that we could possibly see the game as early as Christmas this year. More likely though, June 2009 would be a more reasonable date.
It's already been discussed but dupe threads are always common anyway.
I saw a Dev panel where one of the devs said they "wouldn't comment" on whether or not D3 was Hydra. But then they put up the artwork shots and THERE IT IS!
I guess they can't cover their tracks perfectly, eh?
This isn't mainly about the artwork itself. It is about the fact that we now know that DIII=Hydra. This is the first slip up ever by Blizzard about their code names.
Now what does the name Hydra mean. 3 heads, 3 Prime Evils. Obviously. Except that Diablo now has 3 mouths as seen in the Trailer. Hmmm...
The cinematic is dated 2007. I know there must have been artwork dating back to 04, my point is that the renderings are much farther along than we might have first thought.
EDIT: Ahh, there was one thread about it, but it looks like it was hidden behind several dozen pages. It was last posted in yesterday morning.

Says the job openings on the blizzard site for the past year, plus CM confirmation on the WoW boards.
Interesting.
