Like most of us on these forums , I am not a fan of World of Warcraft. However many people are. Infact, I guarantee you that the entire Design team on "Team 3" are big time WoW players.
So heres the crucial question. What if the Lead Designer on D3 is a WoW lover? Will it effect the game in a negative or positive way?
ANSWER!
and im sure they like tetris aswell, but i doubt that will effect diablo 3.
This OMG WoW cannot affect D3 in a positive manner BS has to stop. They are different games, deal with it. Good, working ideas will get crossed over but that doesn't mean they are tricking all you guys into playing WoW using D3 as a gateway drug.
Relax, they aren't out to get you, just enjoy the game you've been trolling for for so long.
Go slit your wrists and fucking die, you dont love Diablo at all so stfu you fucking World of Fucktardcraft fanboy.
WoW is not a very well thought out game, so GTFO.
it's people like you, which make me say yes to abortion. I do love diablo and haven't played wow for a VERY long time, because it is flawed. So was diablo 2, it was flawed and it's getting innovated and brang upto the industry standards of 2008/2009.
It's people like you which can't possibly be true diablo fans, because your clearly not old enough to have been around for them and if you have. Please never have children.
I'm sure the designers love several different games. Just because a designer like Midnight Club: DUB Edition doesn't mean that Diablo 3 is going to turn into Midnight Club: Diiablo Edition.
I'm only a WoW lover because of the Diablo Series. I only played WoW because I had hoped it would become D3ish in style. It was a completely separate and different experience and it was great.
But to say that whether or not the developers are fans of World of Warcraft, and that this would have some effect on the outcome of Diablo 3 is just not giving the Blizzard devs the credit they deserve. Have faith, they will make Diablo 3 its own game, just as they did with WoW.
Still, there are a few elements that WoW borrowed from Diablo, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the successes of WoW fed back into Diablo 3.
WoW is a game 11 million people in the world like, the fact that the few people that develop Diablo III like it isnt such a big deal
WoW is full of interesting ideas that would be (and apparently are) useful in Diablo III like the changes in the user interface where you can instantly use 6 of your abilities while they managed to keep the hack & slash gameplay intact. That and any things they learnt about defending their servers from hackers/cheaters is a big plus to Diablo III and that could partially be owed to WoW.

I say this honestly, I have nightmares about WoW's style. One day the world will realize how much of a gimmick it is.
I think it will help the game play more than hurt it.
I mean, these guys aren't idiots. WoW is an MMORPG, which is something very different from Diablo/Battle.net play. If anything, they will know better than anyone what to do and NOT do from experience in both fields, WoW and D1&2.
From the Rob Pardo interview, he already stated that D3 wasn't going to be a crappy "LFG" system, where all the players of each region are sectioned off into hundreds of separate realms. The design panel talks about how they want the action to keep moving, rather than having a WoW style of fight-drink-fight-drink-etc.
From all the interview and panel videos I've watched, it seems these guys are very serious about this game NOT being WoW and want it to be very much a Diablo game that veteran Diablo fans will immediately identify with.
please tell me why everyone keeps comparing WoW to diablo? MMORPG / Action RPG .
very distinct difference between the two games.
So maybe the graphics are similar, that just happens to be blizzards signature style.
Diablo 1 and 2 where made well before WoW. or even WC3. Things change and evolve over the years. Blizzard has found a style they like (and apprently others like too) and decided to stick with it, why should that bother people so much? Id rather They stuck to their own concepts than try to recycle everyone elses.

I totally agree that it is a gimmick.
www.dictionary.com defines a gimmick as "an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal"
And before you try to say that the gimmick you are referring to is.. to equip or embellish with unnecessary features in order to increase salability, acceptance, etc...
Everything they have put in the game thus far has been to create smoother game play and is in no way unnecessary extra just to make the deal more aethetically pleasing.
One of the designers in the panels answered a question about the loot system. He said something like "I played a lot of diablo2 and also felt like the FFA loot wasn't too good" something like that but anyways he said he played a lot of diablo2. Even if they had played Wow and designed it in some ways they also have played d2.
It will be fine as long as they don't try to change classes every month.
In WoW every patch nerfs a class and makes one better based on the crying on their forums. I don't want d3 to be like that, I just want it made and thats it, no changing classes every few months because of whiners.
i do believe it affects the way they designed it ( not the engine but more the graphics and stuff ). It is such a popular game tho.
on the bright side i just started playing WoW yesterday and i said i never would..... its actually pretty fun D: So therefore i can get used to these new graphics for d3 easily.

I can't find any reason for worrying at all.

This poll is stupid imo.
