Made you have to weigh out importance of items/charms compared to the space they took up.
Ahhh yes, charms.... There's a dynamic many haven't been discussing. If you have a bottomless inventory, how then do you deal with the charm situation? Do you scrap it? Hmm... I rather liked the idea of being ultra powerful at the expense of being able to pick stuff up. Again, it makes you think and challenges you to make decisions. It's these decisions that make Diablo such a fun RPG. Just like permanent attribute choices... it's Diablo! ROOTS! To compare to the MMO WoW, just because everyone seems to like doing so, they made those decisions less necessary. IN doing so, they made that game less like Diablo. That's fine, for THAT game. But not for D.
My thought (simplified):
** Tetris system for personal inventory. (Keep those important decisions; at least until you decide to make a TP )
** Bottomless (or nearly so) inventory for stash/bank/vault.
Eliminate the need for Mules AND keep the game real, and true to the roots. W3rd.
I like the Tetris style inventory too.... Additionally, I'd like to see them bring item weight into it. If not tetris style, at least do weight, so there is some realism.
Hopefully, Hardcore mode will be available from the start, contrary to the way it was in D2. All my friends are Hardcore junkies, and it would be awesome to not only work our way through the story and enjoy it, but to also have that looming fear of death on our heads to make us cautious. =)
Hehe... I loaded up the WoW launcher, saw the D3 ad, crapped my pants... sat there staring at the screen in awe for a few minutes.... wiped the tears from my eyes... and didn't end up playing WoW at all. HA! I thought to myself, finally! I can quit playing World of Warcraft. Well... at least I can when they release D3. I started playing WoW as a hold over until they brought back Diablo anyway.
When I first saw the D3 logo, I thought to myself.... Oooh, very funny guys... It's April Foo... wait... It's nearly July. WTF!!
I'm only a WoW lover because of the Diablo Series. I only played WoW because I had hoped it would become D3ish in style. It was a completely separate and different experience and it was great.
But to say that whether or not the developers are fans of World of Warcraft, and that this would have some effect on the outcome of Diablo 3 is just not giving the Blizzard devs the credit they deserve. Have faith, they will make Diablo 3 its own game, just as they did with WoW.
Still, there are a few elements that WoW borrowed from Diablo, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the successes of WoW fed back into Diablo 3.
I think the Witch Doctor is a perfect 'replacement' for the Necromancer. He's kinda from the same general background... dark magics, etc. He's pretty much got corpse explosion already and the locusts are pretty similar to the poison abilities the necro had already. He'll be tough enough to fill the absence of ole Nek, I think.
I'm betting we'll see it in 2010. Fitting for this sequel to hit a decade after the last one. Blizzard is one heck of an anal-retentive software company. Unless it mows your lawn and brushes your teeth for you, it's not ready.
