BL seems to have been abandoned by the greater monk community some time ago. I've been playing around with it in combo w/ other spirit generators and have been pleasantly surprised by damage and life steal. I would love to continue my trek away from the cookie cutter builds.
I can only speak anecdotally, but I feel I'm able to survive longer using BL instead of TC (despite losing the teleport). My ability to plow through enemies seems roughly equal.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?... is it just in my head?
How do the actual mechanics of BL work? I've been messing around w/ a WKL and the bonus damage has felt pretty awesome. TIA
I personally use Quickening. I need the mana regen to spam my Overawe Mantra and Cyclone. Im very surprised you dont see alot more of people using Cyclone.
Using that build I farm MP9 very effeciently and was ablo to drop Serenity Breath Of Heaven/Blazing Wrath for a DPS boost.
Ive tried BL but I run out of Mana way to quickly.

Are you sure you mean Cyclone? Isn't that probably the 1st or 2nd most popular skill?
Anyway, yes there are several cons w/ BL vs TC if you're using FoT. I'm primarily interested in how life steal works w/ BL vs TC. Again, it "seems" like I'm able to recoup much more life using BL... problem is, I can't seem to find ANYONE talking about BL on the internets.
The reason why everyone tends to use FoT:TC is because it has a very high proc coefficient. This means it goes extremely well with Life on Hit and anything powered by chance on crit.
If you're using lifesteal, then the proc coefficient doesn't matter at all. The only thing that matters is how much damage you do. If bounding light deals more damage, then it'll be better for lifesteal. This is true of all runes of FoT and of all skills in general; lifesteal ONLY cares about your actual damage output, so anything that hits hard will generate a lot of life.
Since Sweeping Wind: Cyclone is powered by chance on crit, you will get noticeably more cyclones out of FoT:TC than any other FoT rune (and in fact no other spirit generator produces as many cyclones). This also powers your lifesteal if you have high crit chance, because SW:C scales extremely well.

....and you use it quite well . I've played with Gangus several times and his CS build paired with my X-palm/Backlash means mowing through MP9 like a fucking boss. He bundles them with great skill, and the AoE damage from Backlash and EP is just off-the-charts when monsters are packed like sardines from CS..
I've been trying for a little while to make Deadly Reach work in place of FoT, but it's just not allowing me full up-time for double Overawe buff while spamming EP tags. I've switched to FoT/Quickening myself, and I'm able to spam EP at will while easily maintaining full Overawe up-time.
I get my DPS buff from Flesh Is Weak....I just don't have the nads to go without Serenity like Gangus does. To his credit, he doesn't die very often at all.
IMO Thunderclap is sloppy due to it's teleport, which often sucks you into undesirable positions.
BL is decent but I think its decent in tight spaces where u dont have run to the mobs too much and stuff....like even with the density changes running BL seems akward in Fields of Misery compared to Keeps 2.But the dmg is decent and at the same time the proc coefficient of TC is way better , more aoe , more cyclones. They need to revisit the FoT skil and either the teleport as baseline ( dunno if it might make it "op" or anything ) or just make some damn changes, they keep saying they like where monks are an yea we are in a good place dmg wise and stuff but in terms of skills and passives we dont have that much.
Yea the "Speed Palm" build brought some flavour to the FoT Cyclone spec but I think that's just a logic progression from the 3 defensive etc spec which was what everyone was using for a while until people with stupid amount of gold had the gear to stop using serenity and get rid of even more defensive abilities.
I personally do not fancy bell build, I mean its fun , the bell skills itself, but I just hate not teleporting while using quickening, I know lots of people love it but for me it doesnt do much.Still think adding teleport as baseline would make people actually test other stuff out, I would play with BL a lot more just for the sake of it, if it had teleport. And the dodge rune needs reworking or removed, cause there is no logic behind using that rune atm when with a 1M budget build u can do MP0-1 with your eyes closed. Not to mention the most useless rune in TC which is that Static charge, I think the idea behind the skill was interesting at first but it just doesnt work with how the game is now where u melt everything constantly.
Just b/c I need to respond to the useless thread I started...
I believe the reason I felt that BL was outperforming TC w/ Lifesteal is b/c with BL the lightning dmg comes w/ every 3rd strike (instead of every strike w/ TC). So it "felt" superior b/c I saw an instant jump in life instead of the relatively more gradual (and superior) life steal w/ TC.

That makes sense. Thanks.
Sorry, wasnt clear on that. Yes I mean Cyclone Strike.
